  1. Hi all. I have recently purchased an Auralic Aries G2.1 and have it running through my Chord Electronics DAVE. Problem is the whole Windows (DAVE) and Linux (Aries) thing. They don’t produce anything above DSD 128. Frustrating. Any recommendations of a music streamer in the 7-10K (Australian Dollars) range that goes with DAVE and is capable of the DSD 512 playback? Any advice much appreciated. cheers Rob
  2. Appreciate the response @seeteeyou. I do understand the difference between the two platforms. It is strange that there is resistance from Chord to be flexible (kind of what Linux allows the user) . DSD64 & 128 sound pretty decent on my system so going to DSD 512 is essentially a game of diminishing returns. Thanks for straightening it out for me and I will have a think. Cheers Rob.
  3. Thanks @seeteeyou and @ray-dude for your responses. Much appreciated. @ray-dude I have been using the DSD + setting on the DAVE for a while now for when I play my current DSD collection. It just does not seem to work with DSD 256 and above. Its a little frustrating when you spend the amount of money on both these machines (that say explicitly they play DSD files up to DSD512) and then you run into glitches where an operating system is not compatible with another. So @seeteeyou you are essentially saying that playing DSD 512 through lightning DS into the DAVE is pointless? Once again. Thanks for your replies guys. All the best. Rob.
  4. Hi all. Apologies of this has been answered somewhere else on this site but I cannot seem to find it. I have a Chord DAVE (since early 2016) and I have recently upgraded my music streamer from an Auralic Aries Mini to the Auralic G2.1. I am running this into the DAVE via USB. It says clearly on all the information on both devices that they play Native DSD up to DSD512. I am only getting white noise through my speakers from DSD 256 and DSD 512. I have checked my settings in the Lightning DS app (DoP marker set 0 x 05/FA) I also have the setting for convert DSD to PCM switched off. I just purchased Tomba Sonora on the 2L label at DSD 512. If anyone here has any insight it would be much appreciated. Thanks Rob.
  5. Hey. Thanks. I received a DVD ROM sampler from 2011 (?) with my order. I guess you are not talking about that.? I have an OPPO BD 105D As my SACD player as my Chord BLU CD transport does not okay SACD’s!! i should go to the MA page to purchase the sampler yes? thanks for getting back to me. rob.
  6. Thanks Joe, Ray. I received the discs two weeks ago. What an interesting format. Lots of details about the recording, photos and artwork. I dumped all the files into my tagging software “Metadatics” and then onto the Aries Mini. And listening to the music through my Chord DAVE and B & W D3’s is quite special! I agree that some of the music is challenging and not completely up my alley but you have to marvel at the sound. True Hi Res recordings! The disc “Opening” is the best one for me comparison wise . I own 300 or so ECM recordings and to me that really sets the standard sonically, jazz wise... but wow! Opening has this wonderful depth in sound that I honestly can’t hear in the ECM recordings... and that’s saying something. You can actually hear the “room” it is recorded in. Stunning. I also have the Peter Epstein dis “Staring at the Sun” from MA which is pretty cool too. any other recommendations from MA either of you? Thanks for replying. Rob.
  7. Hi all. Just wanted to see if anyone here has purchased any of the new DVD Rom Hi Res discs from MA Recordings. I ordered three: La Segunda 24bit/176.4 kHz "Nama" 24bit/176.4 kHz Opening 24bit/176.4 kHz Eagerly awaiting arrival in Australia. I have some lovely discs from MA including Peter Epsteine's "Staring at The Sun, but this a somewhat interesting format selection. Interested if anybody has heard these and any thoughts? Cheers Rob.
  8. Thanks George. Yes. Really happy with the mini. Great sound and stable. Only problem I have is with the Lightning DS app. Doesn’t seem to save all the artwork. Not all of my titles have artwork and I haven’t worked out how to fix it. Rob.
  9. Hi all. Apologies of this has been answered before. I have been running my DAVE for 18 months now and I have my ARIES mini connected via USB cable. My understanding is that DAVE does not do MQA conversion. However, just the other day I was listening to TIDAL via the ARIES and I just happened to choose an album that was MQA encoded and I noticed the screen on DAVE turn blue (192 kHz 24 bit) and it looked like to me it was playing the file at a higher bit rate. IS this right? Or is it the ARIES mini that has the MQA capacity? I tested this with another four or five albums in TIDAL and same thing. Some were up sampling to 88.2 kHz. Am I not truly getting the MQA encoding? Not sure all this makes sense. But I am certain that DAVE does not do this.
  10. Thanks Miguelito. Appreciate the response. ths DS App is a pain in the backside as far as the artwork goes. but I will keep working on it I guess. cheers Rob.
  11. Hi all. I have looked through a million posts and cannot see anything on this. A simple question. Can you configure Audivarna Plus to work with the Aries Mini? I like Audivarna better the Lightning DS software. For a start the Lightning DS is inconsistent in reproducing the artwork associated with downloads. Audivarna does not seem to have this issue. And, yes I have tried all sorts of file types to get the DS app to work better but to no avail. I apologise if this has already been answered somewhere on this site. The Aries Mini through the Chord DAVE sounds awesome! (by the way:) Cheers Rob.
  12. Hello everyone.I have checked a few of the Auralic posts on the site but I can't find the exact answer. So any help would be great. First of all. very excited about having the Auralic mini. I wanted something other than my MacBook Pro to play hi res files. I have a Chord Electronics DAVE DAC and some B & W 803 D speakers to play the music through however, I purchased it recently and i cannot get my files to load into the Auralic. So I connected it to my network, no problems. I have all of my Hi Res files on a Toshiba Canvio 3.0 external hard drive. So, first I plugged the Toshiba drive into the mini and selected “existing music library” from the app menu during set up. I then selected the USB drive option…. it then says there was an error.So. I went to my Mac and saw the Auralic under the “sharing” tab in the Mac finder details. I tried dumping the files from the toshiba into the Auralic… no success. Then I tried transferring all the files from the Toshiba onto the Mac and from the Mac onto the Auralic. It just won’t do it. Can anybody suggest something? It seems like a simple machine to workRegardsRob

  14. Ok. I am about to spend (in my budget anyway) and obscene amount of money on two chord products. The new DAC (Called DAVE) and the CD Blu Transport. I have my quote and I really like the Chord gear (I have a HUGO) so I am just about to part with my hard earned.... and then... a friend of mine comes along and berates me for wasting money on a transport... especially this particular transport that costs upwards of 14K (Australian). I would be really interested if anybody would take the time to give honest views on this... Another Hi Fi store also said I am wasting my money buying a transport. I love the Chord gear but I guess some doubt has been cast. I am running B & W 804D's with a Musical Fidelity M6500 i (which I also love). Another friend of mine said it would be better value just getting a decent CD Player. But I am completely sold on the DAC because of the other options it opens up (DSD) etc... Some of the other products thrown at me include Luxman, Esoteric. I have also purchased the PS Audio Power Plant P10. Any feedback/opinions much appreciated. Rob
  15. Hi everyone. Just putting some feelers out there for anyone who has these (one or both) products and what are their thoughts? At the moment my system is a pair of B & W 804d speakers, Musical Fidelity m6500i Integrated amp and a Rotel RCD1510 cd player. I am using a Chord Hugo DAC as my headphone stage (And DAC). I am about to purchase the 2 PS Audio products but am also inclined to purchase the Musical Fidelity M6SCD Cd player and the Chord Hugo TT. The financial outlay is roughly the same however, I am caught between matching my cd player to the amp or the cd player to the DAC. Any thoughts/ideas would be much appreciated. Rob
