  2. Hi Zerung

My name is Feng and I'm a newbie at CA. The other day I came across your post about powering mac mini OS SSD separately with LPS. Could you please kindly tell me how you did it? What kind of cables or adaptors did you use? Could you please provide me with some links to these products? Did you cut into half the original mac mini sata cable? (7pin data, 15 pin power). As you can see I'm not very experienced in this area : P. I have been searching online for weeks but still couldn't find a clear answer. I would really appreciate if you could give me some guidance.

Thanks in advance for your help and I look forward to hearing from you.

  3. I don't, I'm using battery to power Mac mini and hd

  4. Hi fridays, could you please kindly tell me how you managed to power your Mac mini's OS SSD directly with a linear power supply? Did you have to cut the original cable into half (7pin data and 15 pins power)? What sort of cables or adaptors do you use? Could you please provide me with the links? I've been searching on Internet for WEEKS but still couldn't find a clear answer. Would really really appreciate if you can give me some guidance on this. Thanks in advance for your help and I'm looking forward to hearing from you soon.

  5. I'm using Mac mini as server and Intel 730 series 2.5 SSD I'm thinking of cutting the original 22pin sata connector into 15pin(power) and 7pin(data) and only use the 7pin(data) to connect the SSD then use some adaptors to power the SSD separately. Is this feasible?
  6. Hi there. Would someone please kindly tell me what cables/adaptors are needed in order to separately power an internal (OS) SSD?

  7. Hi there. Would someone please kindly tell me what cables/adaptors are needed in order to separately power an internal (OS) SSD? I've been reading and searching for a week but still not so sure. People are talking about the significantly improved SQ but no one seems to mention how he connects everything together. Thanks in advance for your help : )
  8. Thanks Freann : ). I had a look at the tplink fibre Ethernet converter (please see pic below) but not too sure about how to use it? What do I plug it into? Also how are they supposed to improve the SQ? I'm using the Mac mini as a media centre in the living room. So I may not be able to run it headless but will definitely try and see if running headless could result in better SQ. Again, thanks for be so patient with me.
  9. Hi Freann Thanks for the advice : ). I'm currently booting my Mac mini from an 32gb Sandisk SD card: extreme pro (95mb/s) and I've ordered another SDXC card from Amazon: 64gb Lexar 2000x (300mb/s). I ordered the Lexar as I couldn't stand the speed of the Sandisk. Also I will be receiving all the Uptone products in September (PLS, MMK, Regen). I have already updated ram to 16gb corsair and updated ssd to 120gb Intel 730 series. Plus Im running disk repair permission regularly. I'm just wondering what else I could do to ultimately improve the SQ. There are quite a lot of articles on line and they all mention significant jump in SQ when powering the OS ssd with dedicated LPS. Naturally as an audiophile I just can't stand the temptation : P Mac mini has quite a unique sata connector to the logic board. I did some research but failed to find an adaptor that will split data and power and also fit into the logic board. So should I cut the original Mac mini sata cable in half and only use the data transmission bit and look for a 15pin connector/adapter to power the ssd? Thanks for taking your time reading the thread. Any thoughts are hugely welcomed : )
  10. Can someone point me to the right direction please?
  11. Hi gents I have been reading quite a few threads where people report a significant jump in SQ when the internal ssd (OS) is powered by a dedicated LPS. Wondering if it's possible to mod a late 2012 Mac mini that way? I've searched a bit online but couldn't see any adaptor available to connect to the logic board? Any idea is much appreciated. Cheers
