  1. Thank you all. Now I need to find out how to make a bootable backup ?
  2. According to that article and the Apple security information they guide you to the last updates for El Capitan were 9 July 2018 which seems to make sense since after that date Mojave came out and apparently they only support the latest three versions which is now Sierra, High Sierra and Mojave. So unfortunately EL Capitan is not supported anymore. I think you are right that I have to upgrade. Why High Sierra and not Mojave? I will need to find out first how to do the hack if it makes such significant positive difference. I don’t like doing that though since (i) Apple didn’t close that access for nothing I assume, so malware may take advantage of that hack too and (ii) I’m afraid of messing up with my system. But the significantly better sound is tempting.
  3. Thank you Buonassi. I recently switched from Toslink to a Berkeley Audio Design USB converter and I’m very happy with the sound. I will experiment a bit further with the USB and AES-EBU cables but even with the cheap cables I use now it’s already a huge improvement. It gave me the same experience of improvement as when I changed to Crystalspeak Reference Diamond cables for the speakers. I just don’t know how much direct mode/El Capitan adds to that experience. Apple isn’t forcing me to update El Capitan yet. I assume that if there’s a major leakage they would? Any other experiences from forum members?
  4. Hi all, it’s a long time ago I posted on the forum. I was mainly improving the hardware of my music system and now that I have done that it’s time to work on the software again. I love A+ and look forward to the new release. I’m still using A+ 3.2.14 with OS X El Capitan (10.11.6) and thus can use direct mode without changing the OS. I wonder if I should upgrade the OS at the expense of not using direct mode anymore (I will not jailbreak the OS). Does direct mode still make a remarkable difference? Is a newer OS necessary for security reasons or can I just keep on using it? I mainly use the MBP for my music, emails and internet. Thanks for your response. Wim
  5. This evening I had a chance to listen to the new version with remote on my main music system. I think from memory that SQ improved. Deeper, more bass, great clarity. I love it and I also love the remote. It works very well. Thank you Damian. If you have a chance, can you have a look at my post about messing up ratings. Any ideas? Thanks.
  6. I manually embedded all artwork in iTunes and also then it appears in Audirvana. I now always embed artwork manually, also to be independent from iTunes in the future if needed. I therefore deselected update artwork automatically, so I know when to do this manually.
  7. Hi Bottlerocket, this resonates with the problem I have. I'm now in the process of spotting duplicate song names in the same album and changing that. I hope this will solve the problem that iTunes never had and Audirvana appears to have. In my case Audirvane also changed my iTunes ratings. Didn't this happen to you?
  8. Hi Odelay, Thanks for reacting. It is possible to import iTunes playlists in Audirvana the way I described it. However, it is not working as expected. Kind regards, Wim
  9. Next to my previous question, I have another one. I'm playing with a TosLink cable right now instead of USB. Therefore I cannot play in integer mode. Would it make a serious difference to change to USB and if so, what equipment would you advice since my NAD M2 doesn't accept direct USB input. Thanks in advance for your advice, Wim
  10. Hi all, please refer to my post #150. Any ideas? Thanks, Wim
  11. Hi all, I’m using Audirvana for some half year now, and I’m reading this forum since then. It gave me a lot of good directions which I’m thankful for. I now came across a problem I cannot solve myself. I always used iTunes as my main music database engine because of its GUI, its remote capabilities, airplay throughout my house and because I want to sync to my iPhone and iPad. Consequently all of my music is in either ALAC (most) or MP3 (still to be replaced). I spent a lot of time in getting the metadata, album artwork and ratings right. As a result on my main music system I used Audirvana mostly in iTunes integrated mode and never bothered about playlists since I used iTunes for that. Now that Audirvana has gotten remote capabilities I decided to always play through Audirvana directly on my main music system because of its superior sound quality (Damien, thank you for that, the difference is remarkable on my system). As a result I also want to have my playlists in Audirvana and here comes the problem. In the setup with Audirvana syncing automatically with iTunes this is how it looks like: iTunes 38.720 songs -------------------------- Rating 0 16.096 Rating 1 3.104 Rating 2 59 Rating 3 6.368 Rating 4 9.949 Rating 5 3.144 Audirvana 38.705 songs -------------------------- Rating 0 38.642 Rating 1 0 Rating 2 0 Rating 3 1 Rating 4 9 Rating 5 53 It shows the total number of songs per rating. This result is already strange because I deleted the 3 Audirvana library files completely before doing a new sync (via ’select the folders to add to the liabrary') to create the full library all over again. There should thus have been no ratings in Audirvana. Also there are 15 songs missing but I believe that I have read somewhere that this may have to do with a CD bought directly with iTunes which is then protected. I’m not sure, and I don’t know how to check this, so I forget about this one. Since these ratings above 0 are different from the ones I’m using in iTunes, I changed these in Audirvana to match with the ones in iTunes. I would have preferred to remove them (i.e. make all of them unrated) but could not find a way to do that. It now looks as follows: Audirvana 38.705 songs -------------------------- Rating 0 38.641 Rating 1 3 Rating 2 0 Rating 3 28 Rating 4 28 Rating 5 5 I did a new automatic sync, nothing changed as it should be. I then did an iTunes library synchronisation to import the playlists and ratings from iTunes (option: ‘import from iTunes only'). This is the result: iTunes 38.720 songs -------------------------- Rating 0 16.096 Rating 1 3.104 Rating 2 59 Rating 3 6.368 Rating 4 9.949 Rating 5 3.144 Audirvana 39.227 songs -------------------------- Rating 0 16.856 Rating 1 3.062 Rating 2 59 Rating 3 6.301 Rating 4 9.840 Rating 5 3.109 As you can see it does not match with iTunes. I have 507 more tracks now, the ratings (obviously) do not match but the pattern is strange because lower in Audirvana above rating 0 except for rating 2, and also in the iTunes imported playlist structure in Audirvana not all playlists are filled (completely) with tracks. For instance the playlists with 0 and 3 and 4 ratings are empty, 1 and 2 and 5 match with the Audirvana data above. Also from the other imported playlists some do match and some don’t. For instance in a certain playlist I have 340 songs in iTunes and 338 in Audirvana, analysis shows that from the album School Daze of Patrick Cowley, track 1 and 2 are missing in this playlist in Audirvana. These are however available in Audirvana’s library view, where the full album is included. Note that iTunes remained unaffected. A new folder sync (the automatic one) did not change this at the iTunes side, but at the Audirvana side it did. It now showed up as follows: Audirvana 38.706 songs -------------------------- Rating 0 16.801 Rating 1 2.874 Rating 2 59 Rating 3 6.211 Rating 4 9.707 Rating 5 3.054 Multiple folder syncs did not change this further. An iTunes library synchronisation changed both iTunes (I forgot to close iTunes, not sure if iTunes therefore changed also, but it shouldn't) and Audirvana. iTunes the same total but now 16.125 with rating 0, 9.935 with rating 4 and 3.129 with rating 5. The other unchanged. Audirvana changed again to a total of 39.227 but now 16.885 with rating 0, 9.826 with rating 4 and 3.094 with rating 5. The other unchanged. If you compare, the same differences in both in comparable ratings. I’m puzzled. Am I doing something wrong, or is Audirvana messing with it? Can you please advice?
