  1. I tried a local number, no response. I tried (212) 586-9799. Did you use a different phone number? I would greatly appreciate if you would be so kind as to tell me a working local number. -Tom
  2. For the past couple weeks no one at Chesky Records is answering their order number phone. I don't know any other phone number (only 800-331-1437). Anyone have a clue what's up (or down) at Chesky? -Tom
  3. I have had the benchmark DAC1 for many months, and have been trying to discover what is causing all the 176.4/24 digital I am sending to it, to be much lower in volume and compressed sounding. (Lower output to my pre-amp.) I use analog output to a Conrad Johnson pre-amp. I am using a Lynx AES16 sound card, in a XP Pro dedicated (to music) computer. 96/24 digital sounds very fine. Has anyone else seen this? -Tom
  4. I got into building a music server after reading Robert Harley's article in the Jan. Absolute Sound. So I am NOT going to cancel my subscription. So now I have the system he described. I love the sound. But being an audiophile, (and a tweeky one, at that), I am always looking for the best sound (at my limited price point). Aren't we all? I can't build all the systems commonly used (MAC, PC/Vista, PC/XT), but will migrate to whatever has the currently the best sound. My point: I use an AES/EBU format/cable with PC and Lynx AES16. I have read this way is recommended for best sound. Does any other system/interface better that. Particularly using USB? -Tom
  5. I downloaded MM version 3.0.3.1183, and it works great! The progress bar is still wrong, but in the other direction. The button stays at the end of the line, with the music still playing, but since the button is at the end, there is no longer any noise at the end of the track. I will just stick with this version, also because I think it just sounds better too. Too bad the changes they have put into the newer versions have messed up the sound. -Tom
  6. I have everything setup as per the Reference Recording web site for Windows XP. Same as yours, I expect, down to the correct 1.30 build 057g and firmware Rev 23. I will next get an older MM version, if available.
  7. I finally got the recommended pieces to play HRx music. Lynx AES-16 sound card and Media Monkey. Sending via AES cable to a DAC (Benchmark Media DAC). So I played my first tracks. At the end of every track, there is a large pop/noise. I traced it to the fact that MM is not displaying the correct progress time, i.e. the progress bar is slower than real time. So the progress button never reaches the end of it's bar. (The little red button that moves along as the track is being played.) When the track ends, the button disappears (as it should), even though it never reached the end of the bar. EXACTLY when the button disappears, there is a large pop noise! For example: a track with length 7:17, MM shows it finished in 6:42. I timed these tracks. The play time really is 7:17, but MM shows it finished in 6:42. Another track is 3:34, MM displayed it finished in 3:27. Another track is 3:04, MM displayed it finished in 2:49. This is with version 3.1.0.1256 of Media Monkey. I have only seen the problem with 176.4 KHz tracks. (WAV) CD (44 kHz) plays fine. Anyone know any work around setting? Anyone else seeing this? -Tom
  8. I would also like to know how to get one of those AES cable you have talked about. (Which so many people have also requested!) The single cable with XLR for the DAC and the computer connector for the Lynx AES 16. I have a longer distance from my DAC to my computer than the length of the cables from Lynx, and I also don't like having all the other cables just hanging and not connected. -Tom
  9. Will this combination of sound card and DAC, (using Media Monkey) allow me to play 192kHrz 24 bit music files? Can anyone recommend (or not) this pairing? -Tom
