  1. No, I took out the optical module. But now you raise the question I might feel the itch to experiment...
  2. Dropped an EtherRegen between optical ethernet cable and Lumin U1 (to Bricasti M3) in place of the Sonore optical module. I didn't expect anything like the change in sound I experienced. Upsampling in Roon to DSD, which worked best with the optical module, now sounds much too soft, while switching to no DSP gives me an unprecedented liveliness without digital edge. It has been a great upgrade which I'd resisted because I didn't see any reason why it should make much difference.
  3. Qobuz for Mac now launches only a blank white screen, although Qobuz works perfectly in Roon and on iPads. I reported this a week ago, had an acknowledgment e-mail, and have followed up twice but heard nothing further. I cannot download my purchases because also the tar archive, after lengthy download, has 0 bytes. Downloaded, reinstalled, same result. I'm a longtime subscriber, Sublime, still via French subscription. Any suggestions, since Qobuz support seems non-existent?
  4. Mine arrived yesterday, and 30 hours later is coming alive (at first sounded thin) - Musician recommends a week's burn-in but I don't have that much patience. I'm using USB, and running NOS and unbalanced because my Linear Tube MicroZOTL3 headphone amp doesn't have balanced inputs. It's terrific - I'm baffled by some comments about a deficient bass. I'm using Roon, and playing with settings have found a strong difference from my Sony TA-ZH headphone amp where the differences between no upsampling, DSD upsampling and different filters were negligible to my ear (the Sony always upsamples PCM anyway). With the Pegasus the differences are dramatic. I much prefer PCM to DSD, with PCM initially sounding stronger upsampled to Max PCM, but now it's bedded in a bit, I'm preferring direct, unmodified. Haven't yet tried a DSD file natively, later... This purchase was impulsive after some negative reviews, but the unit arrived in immaculate condition, 17 days from order (Amazon is quoting a ridiculous delivery date into April!), and I'm entranced by its sound already.
  5. That question is hard to answer as he's using a Chord M-Scaler into the Pegasus. My Pegasus left China a couple of days ago, so I should be able to give a view in a couple of weeks.
  6. Just building on this to report that my U1 was greatly improved by using an optical switch and cable to Sonore optical module to U1. On my headphone system using an OpticalRendu in place of an UltraRendu, that is, entirely optical from switch to optical streamer port, made less difference, I assume because the ethernet cabling is far shorter, and that the longer the ethernet run the greater the benefits of going optical.
  7. Yes, confirming, and it sounds just excellent. I've had to go away for a few days so yet to do extended critical listening – I'll report later.
  8. Lumin has sent me beta firmware for the U1 and all now works brilliantly. Great service on Lumin's part.
  9. Rather frustratingly the detailed app info on the Lumin website shows an option for switching to Native, but this hasn't existed for some time and automatic recognition has supposedly removed the need for it... You're right, I should stop trying to be the middleman. Once Bricasti gets back to me with the requested info and I pass it to Lumin, I'll suggest they work on it without going through a non-technician.
  10. Yes, and the Lumin identifies the type of DAC automatically and decides it's DoP. Lumin has sent me a set of questions to ask Bricasti, which I've forwarded to them. I have to say I was completely satisfied with DSD128 over DoP from Roon/Lumin and might end up ruing the day I learnt about the DSD256 option!
  11. I wrote to Bricasti as a result of this posting and learnt that older M3s can be upgraded for $700, with the price rising after July 1st. As it turned out though, my unit has the new board already. I had been restricting output from Roon via my Lumin U1 to DSD128 believing that to be the limit. However, lifting the output ceiling to DSD256 and lifting the PCM to enable that level of DoP, then upsampling output to DSD256 I get... nothing. I'm in touch with Lumin about this, but any clues for troubleshooting would be welcome.
  12. I was using Iso Regen/Ultracap between my Ultra Rendu and Sony TS headphone amp but didn't detect much difference and took it out of the chain in the interests of neatness. I've since upgraded to Optical Rendu with an optical ethernet switch. Having a little more time on my hands than I'd like, yesterday evening I dropped in the Iso Regen. The effect was magical. I hadn't been receiving the full benefit of the optical upgrade which was effectively choked off by the USB connection. With the Iso Regen everything jumped into focus, with timbre of instruments transformed. This is just by way of fan mail!
  13. Ubiquiti switch with optical, optical ethernet to Sonore optical module to Lumin U1. Roon delivered from SonicTransporter (i7), music files on Synology NAS, and streaming Qobuz. I also have a headphone system from the second optical output on the Ubiquiti, optical cable to Sonore Optical Rendu to a Sony TA-Z1 headphone amp. Best John
  14. Re Bricasti M3, I recently traded a Luxman DA-06 for an M3. As Barrows states in another thread, M3 is perfect for use with Roon if upsampling in software to DSD128 as it uses a completely separate circuitry from PCM, and this is wonderful for jazz, chamber and orchestral, but I also enjoy PCM for R&B and Reggae, without software upsampling – more oomph, to use a technical term, at the expense of some refinement. Both codices deliver considerably more detail than the Luxman (which is good, but a bit long in the tooth now), with greater space around instruments (much easier to follow individual lines) and in particular a striking improvement in representing timbre – bowed strings have a woody resonance for the first time - and a more resolved bass. It achieves the curious feat of being both more detailed and more euphonious. For more context, I couldn't stand the Mytek Brooklyn (first version) for its digital edginess and sold it on. The Luxman was much more agreeable, but the Bricasti bests it. So, Timobi, I suggest listening to a Bricasti!
