  1. "Innertuber is right on with this one. My experience mirrors his" Traitors...... ;-)
  2. If you mean rip the dvd to the PC hard drive and then move/copy from HD to the Ipod...that's exactly what I did. The idea of ripping directly to the ipod never entered my mind as a possiblity!!
  3. I've got a pc. By the way, on the side.... I bought Magic DVD Ripper http://www.magicdvdripper.com/ and it did a fabulous job ripping my dvd's so I could copy them onto my Ipod. I don't know how fast these kinds of programs "should" be but I'll admit I felt this was pretty slow. It easily took over an hour to rip a dvd and in one case, I think it took over 2 hours. In defense of them, it's possible the machine I was using had some issues but other than taking a while to do, worked great for me. I simply started a rip & then went about my way checking back every now & then.
  4. Will the Ipod accept jpg files? Was sitting here with wife & dogs (no kids) and she was playing with one of the dogs telling it how much she was going to miss her while we were gone for 3 1/2 weeks... right then, it dawned on me that I've got something like 25 gigs free on my 160g Ipod and perhaps I could take some pictures with us. I don't see pictures as an option though, video yes, just not pictures. am I wrong??
  5. Been working it out and getting it to work like I want. THANK YOU for your help!!
  6. Key thing though is, I need to rip in chapter mode, right?
  7. hmm... so each playlist would in fact be each DVD (if I chose to listen to it that way) OR, I am now presuming, I could edit/create a playlist of any of the chapters I want, in any order and the playlist will replay my desires? If that's accurate...I think I'm finally getting it (albiet a bit slowly)
  8. I know the answer here is going to be "do what I want" so with that said... 160g Ipod, ripping concert DVD's to it. Evidently they can be ripped in chapters OR "infinite". When I rip in infinite I get a single large file of the entire concert. If I use Ipod to forward to next song, that doesn't work. I might get back to the menu but I can NOT forward/reverse within this file to the next track. If I want to listen to the 24th track, I must first go through tracks 1-23 Now...if I rip in chapter mode, I get all the tracks broken out for me so I get say, 25 individual tracks. When in view mode, if I click forward, the ipod goes back to the menu. I can not forward/reverse between tracks here and ALSO, it seems the Ipod treats each track as its own individual movie. So, if I watch the 10th track and don't touch anything...at the end of it...the Ipod stops. If I want to watch the entire video in chapter mode, I evidently need to manually select track 1...watch it... go back and manually select track 2...watch it... go back & manually select.... you get the idea. It will NOT go down the list as it does when in music mode. Now... Am I just not understanding something here or is this in fact the way the Ipod works when watching videos? Ripping these videos takes anywhere from 1 hour up to almost 3 for the worst one I've done... I've re-ripped some again to put them into the chapter mode (prior to realizing I'd actually be watching them manually and they wouln't scroll to the next song). Now I'm confused as to which mode I REALLY want... I'm thinking the answer is... I need to decide what concerts I'd prefer to watch in whole and maybe rip them in infinity format. Others, if I want to cut some out, rip in chapter format. Anyone know any way around this? I'd like to make clear though... the ability to rip these AT ALL and take them with me on my trip is enough to make it worth it. I'd rather have them in ANY format than not be able to do this at all. Ultimately, I'm snivelling over details here BUT I'm one that likes to have his cake & eat it too when possible. Perfect world would be to rip the dvd's to the Ipod and have them be managable like they would be if my dvd player was playing them. (forward, reverse, pause...) Any comments/thoughts, other than I'm screwed?
  9. Looks like my woes are fixed! I found magic dvd ripper and they sent me link to a new beta http://www.magicdvdripper.com/test/MagicDVDRipper53b.exe VERY easy to use. The pink noise on the gilmour DVD is gone and I've been able to rip the dvd to my pc and then Ipod. It (the Gilmour dvd specifically) still has SOME hiss in it so they told me to copy 20 seconds of that and send it to them. I'll do that tomorrow. As it is, I'd rather have the copy with the hiss than not have it at all. Side benefit, this will also rip dvd along with the video to my Ipod. It seems as though it won't seperate the tracks though so each file is the ENTIRE concert. I'd prefer individual tracks but again... if that's what I have to live with then I can live with it.
  10. I don't recall but I think it was in auto synch and nothing happened. oh well...I have them updated so that issue is over. I'm on to my NEXT issue!!! I've got David Gilmours "Meltdown" dvd. I've been able to rip it to my hard drive using some converter. They are in "VOB" file extensions. Any clue how I can convert VOB files into something that will load into Itunes??
  11. Kill the last question... seems you just drag them! Who'd a thunk it
  12. Change that last one... I just deleted everything on the Ipod... Now, how do I get things to RE-upload?? It's all synched up but nothing is happening (I'm so much better at brain surgery than this!!)
  13. Interestingly, I'm from Hamilton (Ohio), just up from Cincy. Back to topic... Looking at Ipod... names verses PICTURES in art mode is still screwed up. I am home now. Is there any way I can connect it to the Itunes here and "refresh" the artwork?? I don't want to have to delete everything but I will...just hoping there's a simple answer first.
  14. Although I'm prone to say put some Jubilees in there (insert sarcastic face sticking tongue out)... How about their simple "RoomGroove"? Save the extra $$ for doing something different/bigger in your main room. That said... I've got a pair of Industrial Heresy's you can buy for $300 if ya want (true story)
  15. George, just so I know it's specifically been said... If you ever find yourself up my way (after all, I AM just a 'skip' up I-75) near Knoxville...you are invited and more than welcome to come by and hear the Jubilees.
