  1. I'm using a six month old MA8000. I sure as hell hope it is not the amp causing the issue. Fortunately HiFi man says they'll take the headphones back for a refund, so I believe I'll try Sennheiser, AKG, or Audeze. I am trying to stay around $1,000.
  2. I purchased the HiFiMan 400i and while they sound generally spectacular the soundstage is not fantastic and the bass is lacking. In truth, I prefer my B&W P7s. I wonder if anyone might have a suggestion for sub $1000 headphones that can crank out DBs, have great soundstage, powerful bass (least important of the three).
  3. I am going to look into those headphones, thank you. Also, I suppose, thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, at the moment, if the music is not loud enough it does not feel as all-encompassing. I've come to enjoy playing it loud, real loud, as I hear everything and am in the music. I am going to buy a dB meter and report back on what dBs I am speaking about. Maybe I'll tone it down, a bit. "That will lead to hearing loss" was said in jest. However, I do not doubt it is a possibility.
  4. I enjoy listening to music rather loudly and that holds especially true when I plug my headphones into my amplifier. I currently have Bowers and Wilkins P7 headphones. While absolutely spectacular, they distort when I push them to the volumes I'd like to listen at. I wonder if there are headphones that are particularly adept at blasting out rock and roll at volumes that will lead to hearing loss. Please advise based on the relevance of the headphone, disregard price. Thanks one and all.
  5. So, I still have a question: Do computers speak to an amp differently from one another? I want to use J River and an amp with a DAC built into it, so all of the computer hardware and software should be bypassed. But, is there something I should look for in a computer when purchasing one for the sole purpose of storing and playing music?
  6. I am going to try the Uptone Regen. Thank you for the advice and I'll tell you if it works.
  7. Sorry for the lack of info: Using J River, into my McIntosh 8000, running Windows 8.1 on a Razer 14 computer. I have tried multiple high speed USB cables with the same results.
  8. My current PC is not talking to my amp. I have the correct USB driver and programming installed. I posted a question about it in the 'software' section, if you think you might have a suggestion. I am wondering: should I not get this computer to work, I am going to buy a computer with Windows 7. Do different computers work better than others for streaming music through a USB into an amp? Are there computers that have this activity specifically in mind? Thank in advance
  9. Hello, I have a MA8000 and I am trying to use J River to play music through my computer. I am connected to the amp with the proper USB cable and I have installed the McIntosh USB driver. I configured the settings exactly as specified on the McIntosh website. However, when attempting playback I only get five minutes through a song before audio stops and a message pops up, "ASIO Driver stopped unexpectedly." Much of the time I don't even get 30 seconds before the "ASIO Driver stopped unexpectedly". Sometimes when I connect the amp to the computer and turn them both on, they will connect and disconnect rapidly. If anyone can offer advice, let alone a solution, I'd be eternally grateful. Thank you. - Max
