  1. BTW, I have not read every post but have done some selective speed reading! If it is not timing or transient factors then... What makes a 24/88 version of a recording sound better than its 16/44 counterpart in a high end system? Thanks.
  2. A genius is exemplified in his art. Usually. <br /> <br /> Are you saying RR is a genius who occasionally lapses into stupidity?
  3. No controversy, it flat out doesn't work for people. We are not simplistic objects that can be compared by a rigid scientific method. Despite all the grandiose claims to its objectivity. Some look at ABX testing like it is the ultimate Judge Judy of the audio world.
  4. Graham Slee Solo. Ultrasone Pro 2900 will be ordered in 10 days time. The music is Lucinda Williams- "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road".
  5. fahadm wrote:"These products are being used by professionals in studios for a reason, and only now, do I know the reason why. Engineers have so much exposure to live music recording, it must be very hard to sell them poor value products. I’ve learned a valuable lesson: buy pro gear for best value/performance ratio. " If these engineering professionals have such a monopoly on sound quality, audio nirvana, objectivity, facts, and truth Vs. the irrational, cryptic audiophiles and the companies that sell products to them then why are the vast majority of CDs recorded so poorly? It might be hard to sell them poor value products but they sure aren't using those products very well and they don't seem to mind selling poor value CD recordings to audiophiles/consumers. I've thrown enough in the garbage. BTW, don't worry about "stepping on anyone's toes" with this tired stereoptype.
  6. Clay, Alan sent me a few Scorpion CBFs which I threw on my power cords and the sound smoothed out very nicely. They seem to balance out the detail and resolution of the Infinities. I don't know if more Scorpions would make things too mushy or not.
  7. After 7- 10 days of painful break in with the Ref II on my dedicated audio circuit along with 8 CBFs placed on power cords, toroids, and circuit breaker panels the beautiful sound I experienced when I first had just the CBFs is coming back but even more so with the Ref II. The truly amazing thing is that I can have the volume down so low but the soundstage on my Rienzis is all there with quality and richness of texture. And my Senn HD595 headphones now sound like top quality speaks. I could be happy just listening to phones for the rest of my life. What the...?? :^) Next up 3 Ref IIs and a Ref III along with some CBFs on the non-audio circuits. Then a Quantum Studio...? Hope the break in on the non-audio circuits is not as horrendous as on the dedicated audio circuit.
  8. Just received a shipment of Alan Maher's magic rocks and filters. I don't know if I believe in voodoo but I DO believe in my expensive gear sounding the way it should. Fricken' incredible! Thanks for the heads up, Clay! :^))
  9. due to the process of human cognition relating to the non-existence of aural memory. Please see other threads on this topic.
  10. "As an online audiophile discussion grows longer, the probability of someone attempting to diminish the opinions of others by suggesting that DBT would disprove those opinions approaches 1."<br /> <br /> ...for the Post-Modernist Era. At the risk of being branded a heretic, the scientific revolution has taught us the power of science and its limitations. The idea of scientifically accepted proof as a necessary corollary to knowledge is an outdated modernist symptom.<br /> <br /> I also vote to adopt Clay's proposal to amend Godwin's Law.<br /> <br /> What say ye Chris? Shall we so be resolved?
  11. Some commentators have called Chris' enthusiastic review of the Weiss DAC 202 a paid advertisement because Weiss is a prominent advertiser. These people seem to forget that by boldly proclaiming the Weiss DAC 202 as his new reference he is also risking upsetting other advertisers in that price range. Not JUST kissing up to advertisers like some have stated.<br /> <br /> From what I have heard the enthusiasm is well deserved. And Daniel Weiss is a class act all the way if anyone has dealt with him. Personal and engineering credentials.<br /> <br /> Because of Chris' review I will give the Weiss Dac202 serious consideration. He was certainly right about Verity Audio speakers! One of the best purchases I ever made! :^)<br /> <br /> Thanks for "telling it like it is" Chris and not worrying about upsetting other advertisers. After all the Weiss DAC 202 is setting a new standard for others to meet.
  12. Laurie Anderson = so good! Just pre-ordered "Homeland" :^)
  13. Science becomes fiction when it makes claims beyond its own abilities. The hardcore ABXers are a small minority of the scientific community who claim that science answers all that is necessary for humankind to understand realworld phenomena. Like the religious fundamentalists their worldview is the valid view. There is a larger group of scientists who see scientific methods are having a significant yet limited insight into our world. They understand that these methods cannot measure everything. The fundamentalists say that if ABX testing can't meassure something it doesn't exist.Their false assumption being the universal validity of the ABX test. The onus of proof is on others to disprove their dogma. But the ABX test can't measure differences in sound reproduction as experienced by a listener. Due to the lack of aural memory in humans (fortunately!) the test is measuring our reinterpretation of that sound into verbal constructs which we then attempt to compare with another set of verbal constructs derived from a now non-existent experience of the sound from another source. What scientific fundamentalists can't process is that the vast majority of phenomena in our world can't be measured by their methods. Like an earlier post said- anything beyond capacitance, inductance, and resistance doesn't exist when it comes to cables. Science can only measure aspects of phenomena especially the external. Science also requies external validation for its methods through replication. But the overwhelming majority of the things we enjoy in this world are subjective and can never be replicated. The experience of music is subjective and likely one of the reasons that we find it so enjoyable.
  14. A childhood 'hero' comes crashing to earth. He sounds bored and disconnected from the material. Is this album a cruel joke? I'm in shock. I would say listen before purchase but that would be sadistic. If you think I'm exaggerating then go ahead and listen! Suppose there is a downside to genius.
  15. Wait till you hear the ULN8/Model 4 + Antelope 10M Atomic Clock + Circular electron accelerator ( I DIY'd from an old Rega turntable) -easy- just toss the 1's and 0's in Jaw dropping.
