  1. Many thanks for the quick replies. I was going to ring Musical Fidelity but then decided "Where's the fun in that" ?? Off to source a miniToslink to Toslink and let old "Golden ears" sit back and decide. Ah back to the good old day's of listening to the stereo rather than the music. Gladdens an ageing hippie's heart
  2. Hello guy's I've been lurking here a while trying to get my head around all this newfangled digital stuff, my roots are firmly in the land of vinyl allthough I recently sold my blinged out Linn as the modern world beckoned. Anyway after some reading I got myself a Macbook running snow leopard and am ripping to AIFF in itunes. This is to be used purely as a music server. Currently ripping CD colection only Itunes is to keep SWMBO happy (I can manage her ipod etc) This is running through USB to a V-DAC and into my ageing system. This is my first MAC tho' I've been tinkering with PC's pretty much constantly since the day's of MSDOS2.1 and have run the V-DAC under vista allthough doubts were cast in my mind as to itunes under windows A couple of questions if I may? (1) The macbook only offers/see's my DAC as "usbdac" and offers either 41000 or 48000 and 16 bit (one or 2 channel) and nothing higher. Even the internal speakers get up to 96000 and 24 bit so what am I doing wrong? most options are greyed out or simply offer the one setting. If I (say) use this example: http://www.usbdacs.com/Macintosh/Macintosh.html and scroll down the wavelength seems to be recognised and has all the options. (2) Is USB the best option for the V-DAC ?? I can't see an obvious way to connect optical and there is no firewire400 input. FWIW rest of system is mainly Naim ( 82 2xHiCaps 2x135's & CDS running into a pair of Shahinian Hawks) Sound is pretty good but I just think I'm missing something? In time I'll probably look at a better DAC, maybe Amarra or similar but for now I want to see what this achieves. Many thanks for any input Paul Nottingham UK
