  1. This one - I was not a sonos owner but they gave it to me anyway when I asked for it. refunded and re-enrolled at the lower rate. I did the full year to get closer to tidal with its available military discount. that is another thing to keep in mind - tidal is pretty good deal @12 bucks with that discount - available to veterans and active alike. http://www.dzr.fm/sonos my ideal streaming service for home would be lossless Apple Music with a hook into the bluesound system - maybe someday
  2. I did dump tidal in favor of Deezer Hifi when it became available on bluesound. there is one issue I hope gets fixed - bluesound can’t sort deezer favorites alphabetically. Other than that it works and sounds the same to me. I had been looking to dump tidal for a long time. I ended up saving money with the discount (120.00 for a year of hifi) - I had to ask for the discount after signing up but they were quick to provide it. With the discount and Deezer “flow” I can live with the sorting issue for now. Bluesound is pretty good at bug fixes and feature fixes. The Flow feature works really well so far. Much better discovery than tidal. JJK
  3. Thanks wwaldmanfan Exactly the same or not - I'm going ahead and buy it. A new one should be ready for pickup on Thursday. The dealer I have one on loan from doesn't stock the M51 any longer because they can't discern a difference. They are large mid / hifi outfit with 3 floors of really nice stuff. They carry the rest of the NAD masters series. I also called spearitsound - they told me the difference was better connections and "pride of ownership" and that some customers claimed to hear a difference but that they could not make that claim, but wouldn’t rule it out... They also said the sell lots more of the M51 - go figure... Finally NAD got back to me and confirmed that the board and the power supply is exactly the same and that the chassis and the release date are the reason for the price difference. Looks like they are taking the Master series in a different direction with the M12 (too rich for my blood) Seems like a good buy for what I listen to and how listen, and it is an upgrade in my small system. Not so much $$ that I feel locked in forever. Thanks again. JJK
  4. Hello All I've read all I can find on these 2 DACs and it seems they are the same. People I have talked to say it's the same DAC. I have one on loan and I like it a lot. It eliminates my obsession with re-clocking airplay and very fine volume control of airplay. It's remote also works my AMP. It sounds better than the other DACs I have in my system (oppo 105, NAD MDC DAC 2, and the Bluesound node2 DAC) I know it's not the latest DAC but I don't need DSD and I really like the loaner. A new C510 is about the same price as a refurbished M51 so if they are indeed the same DAC I would get the C510 if for no other reason than to support my local dealer. Has anyone tried both and found a difference? 2nd question - I can bypass the preamp in my NAD 356BEE and use the C510 or M51 directly into the "main-in" on the amp - is that the way to go or should I use the preamp in the 356bee? Thanks JJK
  5. Anyone? Is the AE adding bits for volume control? or reducing bits for volume control and then padding bits for the DAC after volume is reduced. – I think the DAC will only accept 24bit input and is zeroing LSB for 16bit audio (according to the dac chip spec)- but I don't really know for sure how the volume control is applied and for some reason I seem to care:) Thanks
  6. Hello - New here - first post. I have both the apple TV and an Airport Express. I’m using the ATV via the OPPO 103 HDMI input because I know the OPPO does 24bit volume control. The AppleTV is however, terribly unreliable – It drops out all the time. I know I can use my AMP for volume control but it’s not a fine enough adjustment. Question is – does the airport express do 24bit volume control via the itunes / ipad volume slider? – It has a 24bit DAC (AK4430ET) chip; there is nothing in the airplay protocol that would prevent it (that I know of) – Lots of devices with airplay built in have a volume knob lock with airplay when it’s engaged so it would seem that it should be able to do it. I’m just taking volume control here – Not 24bit playback. I know it can’t do that. I can find no evidence that it does or doesn’t do “24bit volume control” for sure, and I’ve been looking. Apple can’t seem to answer the question. These measurements seem to indicate that it does but I can’t tell for sure because that post is way over my head. Computer Audiophile - Measurements: First and Second Generation Apple AirPort Express What say you resident experts? Thanks! JJK
