I was amazed by Roon's described capabilites... So I pulled my credit card... I am not amused at the moment regarding metadata, still waiting on reply from Roon... But I read about such problems in other places, maybe I was a bit too fast in my decision... https://community.roonlabs.com/t/questions-on-metadata-quality-not-impressed-at-the-moment-at-all/1645/ Are there any news now on a Roon/HQP collaboration, as I heard Roon wanted to talk to Jussi because many people asked for a functionality to start HQP out of Roon...
  2. Also as I have an ASIO only driver for my Chord DAC it will only get of interest to me if ASIO is implemented, but you re-prioritized this as I saw. That's good news...
  3. Exactly, I am one of them, too Or at least I want to have the possibility to choose. Also it would be great if the metadata could be edited, but I think you're working already on that, right?
  4. Well I have a lot of limited editions, has someone experience already if they are found correctly?

Never heard of Roon until now. Wow, some heavy pricing Had a look into their forums, at they moment it seems that it is not possible to fully edit metadata and it is not clear if this is implemented if they store the edited information just in their db or in the tags... If I pay this premium for a library manager I am awaiting that it is able to do anything I want it to do But it looks really nice...

Hi Geoff, thanks for your reply. In the meanwhile I decided let's say 90% to go the foobar way of bogi, which means HQPlayer through foobar. I want to use foobar simply for it's customizing abilites. I am really using a lot of tags, also custom tags and I think Kodi ist just not usable for this. Í don't want to "lose" all my tags, I want to be able to display them on screen if needed. JRiver is simply out of the game for several reasons and actually the discogs plugin for foobar is really extended in a way that is like a dream come true, nearly totally customizable. Always a problem for me with discogs plugins of other applications as you have to live with what the developer thinks is good and in most cases it's not. Not so in foo_discogs, I am actually testing the new version and it's really great, there are still some bugs and work has to be finished by the developer but there is so much you can do with it regarding tagging. So foobar with a decent skin (if I want to also have the screen on) will be my way to go. And Kodi will be my movie and video application, in this field together with Kore it's just lovely. Cheers

Hmm, really cool that you don't get this _EDIT files, I am also using JMRC20 and a bit helpless at the moment with this. Yes the many terminal windows are exactly the count of the tracks. I realized now that I have same behaviour but only in about 1 try of 20, 19 times it works flawless. But as you said this can't be the optimal way to do it. The problem is not a waiting time inside the .bat, I tried that already but that doesn't help because you would need a waiting time between calling the single .bat files, so a waiting time inside the .bat can't solve that... Since yesterday I am really concentrating more on the "foobar way" as foobar is really customizable to no end. EDIT : But you can try if it helps you maybe : create wait.bat inside same directory : @CHOICE /T %1% /D N > NUL Then change the hqplayer.bat : @echo off call wait 5 hqp-control localhost %1 I am getting mad about this _EDIT files now!!!

I did not modify the .BAT at all, I used it as it is. The point is to change the following settings in JRMC and Windows : First I did a File association for .flac files to be opened with the .bat in Windows. In JMRC then I did the following in Tools -> Options -> File Types : For .flac set Playback method to External program (default), and for Audio Playlist and Media Playlist I set Playback method to External program (custom) -> setting the .bat in the custom settings. Now for the albums I did the following : If you right-click an album, then Send To -> Send To (external) -> Add/edit programs -> now you create an entry for HQP pointing to the .bat. Then just right click the album and choose send to "HQP entry". One instance of HQP has to be running to get this to work. As I told you the sending of the files works perfectly but there is still the problem that JRMC creates these _EDIT files for some reason when doing that. So if this can't be stopped somehow this workflow is just not practical. But maybe someone knows the reason and has a solution for that...

Bogi, I will sure tell how I reached this, it's very easy, but JRiver seems to make some problems with this solution that I realized a little late. Every time I send a complete album to HQP JRiver creates a duplicate of the original file with the extension _EDIT, if you do it 4 times you have 4 copies named _EDIT, _EDIT(1).._EDIT(3) for every song in your folder, until now I didn't find out why JR does this and how I can switch it off, so the solution is also not final This solution is also not restricted to complete album, but kinda more restricted than yours, you can only send complete playlist, complete album or single tracks. When sending single tracks there is also no _EDIT copy done. It seems to have to do something with "send to external program" that these copies are made... I am now looking a little bit deeper at customizing foobar, as I saw you can do really a lot with it... I will forget about these theater views for audio because they are not enough customizable for tags as far as I can see... It's more important for video and for that I'll use Kodi anyway but don't want to use it for audio, I only want the best solution possible for audio in terms of software and handling media library...

@bogi : That's what I just mentioned in my last post. It is not very important that it works from Explorer more than from other application. So there is your foobar solution on one hand, in the meanwhile I managed to get that also done from Jriver using the .bat as it is. But with the exception - in contrast to your solution - that you have to create a playlist in jriver and then right-click it and send to an external program, where an entry was made for HQP pointing to the .bat. This also works with sequential calls as it seems but there is always one window left open with an "error: Server closed the connection" - but it works. What I really wanted to achieve is that this works from a library view like the theater view in JRiver. This seems not so easy. But I was able to get it to work from JRivers album view now. You just need a right click on the album cover and then click on the HQP entry and all songs will be imported into the playlist in HQP. Great. Still had no time to test your foobar solution as I am just trying around everything that comes to my mind at the moment, with some good results until now...

Ok hqp-control accepts playlists already, so this was somewhat misleading. If you create playlist and put the .bat as standard application for playlists this also works very well. But we are still not there where I want it to be. So Miska, do you think there is a possibility that this works with more than one file if highlighted in explorer or in other application (more important than explorer)??

Now this really works like a charm!! Even from Jriver for example if you put the bat as external player. But I was excited to soon. Now this has the flaw as it works only with single files. If you highlight more than one file for example in explorer and then right-click open hqp-control responds with errors. And if you create a playlist in Jriver for example and then click on play for the playlist only the first song is loaded into HQP. With drag&drop it still works of course but this is what I want to avoid. Do we have a possibility here that hqp-control accepts playlists? Now that would be great...

@Miska+all : So there's another question left now. If I make the standard program for flac in WIN eg. Adobe Audition, if I open a flac file Audition starts. If I double click another file the file is just loaded into the already open Audition instance. This is not the case if I make HQP the standard app for flac. Everytime a flac file is opened a new instance of HQP is started. This is generating too much resource overhead. If it would be possible that the clicked files would load into the already opened instance that would solve nearly ALL problems regarding using another library manager and HQP as Player. It's not that cool if I have to drag&drop something in my audio pc environment. It would be great if I can use any theater view or how they're named of JRiver, Kodi, whatever application and if HQP is checked as standard app for flac files they would all be played through HQP...

That was the missing hint! I did not use "Add tree" I did use "Add", with "Add tree" I can see the cover art. Thanks on that! Well, I use a lot more tags in my FLAC files than that, this is my common structure : TITLE, ARTIST, ALBUM ARTIST, ALBUMARTIST (I store both versions), ALBUM, DISCNUMBER, DISC (also both versions), TRACKNUMBER, YEAR, ORIGINAL YEAR, ORGANIZATION, GENRE, DATE, ORIGINAL DATE, some customized tags CUSTOM1-4, COMPOSER, LYRICIST, CONDUCTOR (is misused for producer, but I know in my workflow), ENSEMBLE, INVOLVED PEOPLE, COMMENT, TOTALTRACKS, TOTALDISCS, LYRICS And I store this for every single track in my collection, so it's a pain for me if this is kinda "lost". Oh I am completely with you that sound quality is prioritized in such a project. A great GUI is of no use if the main use of the program is let down for it. But maybe you reach a point where SQ is so outstanding that you have time for improving the GUI a bit. But I also know there will be always something to tweak regarding sound optimization. So...
