I am running my PS Audio Direct Stream directly to my amp. I have read that running the 'DS' through a very good preamp will result in better sound compared to 'going direct.' I have read good things about the K-5xeMP, but I'm not familiar with it, and I don't know if it is indeed a "verry good" preamp..........The cost is certainly much less than many of the well known 'SOTA preamps.' Since the gain of the DS is about 3-4 dB quieter than my previous DAC (the PS Audio PWDII), and because DSD files tend to be about 6dB quiter than PCM files, I feel that I need a little more volume capacity..................Would adding a preamp necessarily provide more gain.......more volume? Thank you.

I am so glad to hear that....."Amused to Death" is probably higher on my wishlist than 'WYWH' By the way, if Ted reads this.....I notice that the DSD-64 file version of "Smokin" is a lot quieter (noticeably less volume) than the other PCM versions of the same 'album.' I mentioned this on the PS Audio website, but the answer I received suggested that it may be a filter setting issue on my end.......I stream from JRiver vs 20 to the "Bridge" in the "Direct Stream" and I have 'checked' the JRiver setting that provides DSD files to be 'DoP wrapped.' Did you notice less volume with your DSD download in comparison to PCM...?

I see this DSD download available at Acoustic Sounds....I am curious if anyone has heard the DSD download and what they think of it. I have the Japanese remastered CD that sounds slightly better than the original CD I have, but overall the album doesn't seem to have been recorded all that well. That being said, I still love this album.......

Is it truly necessary to spend a significant deal of cash on a server in order to get great music from an already great DAC? I want to trade my 'PS Audio PWDII/Bridge' for the new PS Audio 'Direct Stream.' My music library consists of Redbook and hi-rez PCM files in Flac and Wav stored on a 2TB hard drive (I will definitely want to be able to stream DSD files too). I want to stream from my hard drive directly to the Direct Stream. Since the current Bridge does not accommodate gapless (and for other reasons), I prefer not to go that route.......and the 'Bridge II' hasn't seen the light of day. For me, budget is a significant factor. I won't be able to purchase one of those great looking audiophile servers. I do not, however, want to impede sound quality (or the potential for better sound quality). Are there some reasonably priced (i.e.: under $600.00) options that are recommended by 'computer audiophiles?' Thank you.

Please point me in the right direction if this has been covered... I have checked this form, read the wiki and posted on the JR site; all to no avail. Using Radio Paradise as an example Radio Paradise I can successfully add the URL to the designated URL box in MC (via File - "Open URL"), send it to Web Media... The radio Paradise webpage comes up and plays music via my computer interface. I do not however see radio paradise listed under "Playing Now." Neither is it listed under My Connected Media. If I access Tools and click on Send To, there are no files available. I need to be able to access the stream and then: Send to->Playlist->Create Playlist... The instructions seem intuitive, but I just can't seem to find anything to right-click on in order to access the Send To option, and there isn't any indication in MC that Radio Paradise is "Playing Now" (i.e.: I can't find anything to open to tag...). Is it obvious to any of you what I may be doing wrong. I've tried to figure this out by reading everything I can, but thus far my only option is to forgo streaming radio... Thank you in advance. _Ben

CP: Nice review...And really nice gear! Can you tell me which Bridge firmware version were you using? Did you have a chance to play around with the different versions? As you may know, some of the Bridge firmware versions are "darker" than others, while other versions are actually more airy in the treble... Thanks, _Ben
