Thanks, Rogerdn. So just to make sure I understand, are you saying the PS Audio Directream DAC sounded worse when using the NDX only as a network bridge for the Directstream vs. using the DirectSream as a DAC via another bridge or via a computer?

Hi Chris, Another question: with so many Naim components and combinations out there, why/ how did you choose the NDX/ XPS? Did you consider NDX / Naim DAC connected to powersupply, or NDX with Naim Unitiserve UPnP server/ ripper, or others? Thanks

Chris, Great review! Were you able to hear differences in the different UPnP servers that you used? Also, have you, or anyone else on this thread, tried the digital out from the NDX into a 3rd party external DAC instead of spending big money on the powersupply? I'm wondering if it makes sense to use the NDX as streamer and one flavor of DAC, and also use a second external DAC for variety.

This question is the context of Naim gear, somewhat expensive, but a sound I really enjoy. Components: Unitiserve ripper and UPnP server, NDX streamer (also has internal DAC), External DAC, external power supply for DAC I have heard various combinations, below, and these differences are not trivial based on my taste, each contributing at least 20-30% in sound quality, in order of greater to lesser sound improvement: 1. Server software: Adding a Unitiserve box to act as an UPnP server instead of running MinimServer on the NAS, making music much more analog sounding 2. Hooking up an external DAC via S/PDIF, from NDX streamer instead of using the DAC inside NDX 3. Adding an external power supply to the DAC Can someone please explain why I am experiencing this? How much of these improvements is contributed by hardware vs. software? Interestingly, Naim has not updated the hardware in a few years, but has released software updates Do these observations generalize across other brands or work only for Naim gear? Much Appreciated!
