  1. Sorry for the confusion. When I cut and pasted the formatting changed from the mfg web site.
  2. I became very excited about Digital Audio after listening to a You Tube vid with Cookie Morenco of Blue Note Records concerning DSD download files. Of course I did not realize that DSD files or the equipment was not really ready for the mass market. So, as I explore for reasonable, rational solutions, I am slowly coming to the conclusion that, probably, 24/96 is way more than enough for my worn out ears and much more affordable.
  3. What I mean to say is that this particular DAC probably does not support USB audio 2.0 because it will only output 24/96 when the input is through the USB cable. This clears up a lot of confusion, for me.
  4. I was just looking at at the specs for a popular DAC; D1 24-bit DAC, and down in the specs was this; [h=4]Input bit depth[/h] 16 bit, 24 bit [h=4]Input sample rate (USB)[/h] 32kHz-96kHz - native playback 188.2kHz, 192kHz - re-sampled to 96kHz for playback [h=4]Input sample rate (optical)[/h] 32kHz-192kHz - native playback So it is a USB DAC but using USB will only allow 24/96 output. I have learned more in the last couple of minutes, vs. watching a bunch of youtube vids and reading from web articles.
  5. Thank you both for the key information. Normally, I jump into a new venture and end up learning on the back end. I thought I would save myself some money and frustration by trying to learn before buying, so this has been very valuable. Thanks for the information!
  6. Hi, just discovered this site and am new to computer audio. I inadvertently got into it by experimenting with ripping CD's. Anyways; I would like to, eventually, hook up a stand alone pc/laptop to my vintage stereo. I have been researching products, forums, and videos to nail down all the details of creating a system for audio files and devices. I see that HDtracks sells ( mainly ) 24/96 and 24/192 . The question is; Does USB 3 support 24/192? I ask this because the specs on most DAC's imply that USB 3 will not transfer 24/192, It will transfer 24/96. It appears that one has to use TOSlink or coax for 24/192, which leads to another series of questions. For fun I purchased off of HDtracks, Sonny Rollins "Saxophone Colossus" in 24/192 ripped it to a CD ( via Jriver ) and of course the bit rate changed to redbook specs. Still sounded pretty good. Anyways, sorry for being so long winded. Thanks in advance!
