I've been very happy with mine. I like it so much I've ordered the new CXN that I'll use on my primary system and will move my stream magic to the family room. I was going to get the stream magic v2 but the cxn is basically the same machine with a color screen.
The stream magic app was absolutely terrible at first. It crashed constantly and only worked about half the time. I controlled the unit from the front panel rather than deal with it. After several updates it works pretty well now. The new CA Connect app was intended to only work on the stream magic v2 and the cxn but I was given the option to be a beta tester for using it on the v1. My initial impression is that it loads my very large library much faster and is a little easier to use.
Unless you're thinking about getting a used v1 at a deal, look into the v2 as it has a faster processor and is available at a steep discount through several retailers as the cxn is now available.
