  1. Thanks for the suggestions. As it turns out, the problem must have been in the IPad. I was about to start another troubleshooting session when I decided to go ahead with an OS update on the IPad that I had been putting off. After that I was able to go through the Aries set-up procedure with no problem and it's working fine.
  2. After over a year of use my Lightning DS tells me my Aries can't be found. I've gone through the set up procedure, as the software suggested, several times to no avail. I have not yet tried the reset button, but that may be my next step. I'm not using any beta software or firmware; I just get the finished updates as they are sent out. Any suggestions? Mark
  3. Thank you all for the replies. I wasn't aware of the use of the semi-colon. Do you know if this works with Lightning DS? Does the word in front of the semi-colon get displayed by the playback software?
  4. I tried asking this question in the dbPoweramp forum and got little help, so I'm asking it here. If I am ripping a CD by "Fred Smith" and want my playback software to list this under S, I need to tag this as "Smith, Fred". What is the proper way to tag something like "Fred Smith & Friends" or "The Fred Smith Family Band" and still have them listed under S? Do I simply move everything in front of the S to the end separated by a comma such as "Smith Family Band, The Fred"? If it makes any difference, I am using Lightning DS on an Aurilic Aries. I'm not using MinimServer, just an attached USB drive. Thanks for any tips you can give me. Mark
  5. Wow! I finally understand why I find current pop music dull and unimaginative, and why I'm still listening to 40-50 year old rock music.
  6. Thank you for the replies, but only one of them offered any real help (thanks Nikhil). Since I am new to this computer audio stuff, I am relying on the experience of others who have been doing this much longer than I. Not wishing to get into philosophical disagreements, I intend to experiment myself with cables and the like to determine how much I can hear and how much I am willing to spend on these possible improvements. That being said, there at least two Vega owners who have stated in another thread that burning in their Vegas made all the difference in the world. One even states that he thought the Vega was the worst purchase he had made until it was burned in; at which time his opinion completely reversed. Trusting these experienced users of the exact same device, all I was looking for was some advice on the proper way to go about it. Mark
  7. This might be a silly question, but I'm so new to this audiophile stuff that I need to ask. I have an old 5-disc CD player that has an S/PDIF output. If I hook this up to my new VEGA and put it on continuous repeat, would this be an acceptable way to burn in the DAC? One of the reasons I am wondering if this will be effective is, when my Aries comes in I will be using the USB input to the Vega instead of the S/PDIF. Mark
  8. I finally went down to my local dealer to buy an Auralic Aries and Vega. To my disappointment, the Aries was out of stock. I did take the Vega home and now am wondering if just powering it up will accomplish anything, or do I need to be running a signal through it to burn it in? I don't currently have a music server, but I might be able to connect my computer to it if necessary.
  9. I'm surprised these work with relatively light-weight audio equipment. When I was doing electrical work we would put similar pads under transformers weighing hundreds of pounds. Those pads were the ones with cork in the middle, though.
  10. Thanks John, that's just what I needed. I expected the solution to be more complicated. Mark
  11. I have been planning to buy an Auralic Aries for some time now, but have been delayed by various circumstances. In the meantime, I have upgraded my phone and network wiring (my internet is DSL), bought an Airport Extreme, and bought an iPad Mini to control the Aries. My modem and router are one unit, but I have obtained instructions from the manufacturer to bridge the modem so I can connect the Airport Extreme. My intention is to set up the router as has been suggested by others, with the Aries on the 5Ghz band and everything else on the 2.4Ghz band. My problem is, getting information on how to set this up has been difficult. I've looked at Apple's website and watched YouTube videos, but they all have had very basic information. I've also tried searching this forum, but have never had much success finding what I was looking for. As I understand it, I need to get into the router's configuration and set up the two bands so that devices will only connect to the appropriate band. I've not found instructions on how to do this, and would appreciate someone either providing me those instructions or directing me to where I can access that information. Thanks for any help you can give. Mark
  12. Blake, I've unsuccessfully tried to figure out what you're listening to that might fit that description. Please clue me in. Mark
  13. I had to look up equitech. Looks pretty interesting; I'll have to keep it in mind after I get the rest of my system together.
  14. So, my take-away from these comments is, even though a speaker has dual input terminals, they still go through the internal crossover and bi-amping is probably a waste of effort. I MAY benefit from bi-wiring, but that is partly due to an effectively larger wire size, as well as separating the frequency loading effects on the cables. This makes it seem like the dual terminals on the speakers is just a gimmick.
