  1. A great power supply would be the Plixir Elite BDC. It has the black background of the Farad Super 3 with added dynamics, all while avoiding sounding too "syrupy". However, If you can reach up to the Ferrum it most probably add versatility (the ability to use it for different output voltages) on top of that. That said, the price of the SOtM plus Ferrum would be awfully close to an Innuos PhoenixNET which would be better still, as it integrates a master clocked switch with its own linear power supply within the same chassis. Choices, choices...
  2. You can have a look at the Innuos Pulse series: https://innuos.com/pulse-series/
  3. I agree. With the Amber 3 no benefits were realised through up-sampling. I have since simplified my front-end considerably and I'm very happy with the sound I'm getting.
  4. If you mean whether they stopped developing their software, far from it. There is a beta version of their latest release -2.1- available (through the innuOS feedback zone), which will presumably be out by means of an official release, soon. And of course they've just announced their new series of streamers (Pulse mini, Pulse & Pulsar), which seem like a really interesting bunch of products!
  5. Some observations of mine over the course of time spent with the SOtM switch and related paraphernalia: . The 12V are required because of the power requirements of the added internal clock module. . SOtM gear need a healthy dose of breakup, especially the ones with the silver wiring. . SOtM switches are synergistically mated to their own (filtered) cables, so an SOtM switch with the SOtM ethernet cables to and fro sounds different to an SOtM switch with other (however good they might be) cables. The SOtM cables add serious body, weight and smoothness to the overall presentation. . The power supply also plays a very important role: for example if you prefer a "smoother" sound you could try a Farad Super 3 and if you prefer a more "dynamic" one you can try a Plixir Elite. . Proper isolation from vibration (by means of footers and added weight on top) is also very important. . Preferably, the switch should receive very clean power from a different outlet than the rest of the system, if possible.
  6. My experience suggests otherwise, as I had the super-clocked Amanero (w/h latest firmware) replaced by the JL Sounds and the latter was clearly better in all respects, mainly due to severely decreased latency, galvanic isolation and the more powerful XMOS chip. Another thing that many don't know is that the JL Sounds can potentially receive a clock signal from an external master-clock, as it has that functionality built-in and that would be a game changer. In fact, Lampizator use an internal master clock to feed the JL Sounds board in their Horizon DAC.
  7. RIP Mark Lanegan. You will be missed. A huge fan from way back to the Screaming Trees SST days.
  8. This thread had me dig up my notes, since I have always tied to keep track of the changes in my audio system (at least after it started to matter that is...). In September 1991 I had just graduated from Uni and was looking at post graduate studies. Throughout my studies I took the odd job here and there, but by late 1990 I had two regular part-time jobs and one of them was at an audio salon that also did lots of trade-ins, something that afforded me access to a wide variety of used high-end audio gear at really great prices. Actually, I don't remember ever being paid for this job, as I had always managed to be in debt for gear I'd got instead ('Will work for gear" related imagery applicable...). In retrospect, I feel this situation was beneficial, both for me as well as the proprietor of the salon🙂. I had a "vinyl only" system and since I was an avid record collector also many records and singles, mainly from underground bands and independent record labels of the "post-punk" period but also psychedelic and progressive bands from the late 60's - early 70's, that I was started getting seriously into soon after I'd been exposed to the "paisley underground" scene. Anyway, here's what my notes indicate for September 1991: Voyd 0.5 Reference turntable w/h Helios Orion tonearm and Audio Note IO MC cartridge Audio Innovations Series 1000 step-up transformer and preamp Audio Innovations "First" power amp Snell Type J speakers I don't have any notes on interconnects or speaker cables but my notes from January1993 indicate upgrading from the Audio Note AN-V's to the AN-VX's, so in all probability, the V's must have been the ones. Not shabby at all...😜 I also remember that the Voyd turntable had a power supply for the motors the size of a 100 watt amplifier, complete with rack handles and all and when you turned it on, the start-up power demand was such that it sometimes took the circuit breaker relay down... Fun times!😀
  9. What about the Antipodes s20 ? (https://antipodes.audio/antipodes-s20/)
  10. The mobo is not necessarily targeted towards a server design. You could use it for an endpoint design too. Many people have found that higher power processors in either servers or endpoints give better results (dynamics, presence, etc.) and many companies have since incorporated that general logic into their products, each from their own perspective. It would not be far off to think that at some point in time SOtM themselves may just as well come out with a (single) product that would serve both functions equally.
  11. I realise it’s not easy. But Tidal seems to have done it and from what it seems faster too, so “diligently” is the key word in my post.
  12. Instead of all this illegal bloody mess, why don't Qobuz work a bit more diligently to offer their service to all of Europe? They are a European company after all... 🤬
  13. Congratulations on taking up the guitar! You made the right decision to get an acoustic. By definition you now don't have to worry about a whole bunch of controversial issues, like batteries for example (carbon batteries are de riguer in fuzz boxes...). And yes, it's true: most guitar gearheads are audiophiles without even knowing it, albeit with a slightly different take on the manifestation of the early (or not so early) stages of psychosis.😄
