  1. I have owned both a microRendu and UltraRendu for several years. I have a highly resolving system with Magnepan 3.7i speakers. The UltraRendu was a definite step up over the microRendu. It is interesting how much better even the microRendu is in average systems than something like the BlueSound Node 2.1. The UltraRendu has been rock solid in my main system and allows me to take advantage of system upgrades. I have always been a believer in getting the source right.
  2. Yes. El Capitan allows direct mode without a patch. I have a 2009 i7 iMac with El Capitan dedicated to my music system. I use it with Audirvana a Emotiva XMC-1, a microRendu and a Schiit EITR. Sounds fantastic.
  3. I have a microRendu connected to an EITR which connects via SPDIF Coax to my processor. The microRendu connects to the network via Ethernet. With the exception of a restart of the microRendu from time to time my iMac always finds the microRendu. Try turning on your computer and then unplug the UltraRendu to restart. The restart can also be done in the SonicOrbiter software. If you have gone through the setup properly in Audirvana you should be good to go.
  4. I have a microRendu running 2.5 with the iFi PS. Every time I turn on my system I must reboot the microRendu for Audirvarna to see it. Any suggestions?
  5. I use an Ethernet connection from Apple Extreme router to Netgear switch to my iMac. I plan to switch from CAT 5e to CAT 7 this week. CAT 7 has better shielding so it can't hurt. Tidal just sounds hazy compared to my other sources over my main system.
  6. On my system midrange/ vocals sound cleaner in SoX, but the soundstage is not as wide and does not have as much depth. However, I have not attempted to tweak the SoX default settings.
  7. I use El Capitan 10.11.5. I always have used power of 2 rather than DSD. Volume is set to DAC only. High Res files and CD rips sound incredible. TIdal is anemic in comparison. The sound is much more recessed less dynamic. And the noise floor is clearly higher in Tidal. I have the problem in SoX and IZotope. I really appreciate the advice.
  8. Which page should I send. I have Tidal set to lossless master and I am using the default SoX setting. I cannot find any other setting related specifically to Tidal. I have a 100MBPS internet connection so That is not a problem. Thanks for your help.
  9. I have Tidal Set to lossless master HiFi. Thanks for the suggestion.
  10. I find the sound quality of Tidal to be far below CD rips and high res downloads on Audirvana. In fact, sound quality from the Tidal app sounds bette to me than through Audirvana. Since most seem to speak highly of Tidal over Audirvana I wonder if there is a setting I could be missing. Any suggestions?
  11. Damien, will the normal update process now download 3.2.2? If so will it work with Yosemite and El Capitain?
  12. If the iMac's power supply is so noisy it cannot be in the same room as the DAC what other power supplies are equally problematic? How far away from a DAC would a computer need to be to eliminate the problem of noise from a power supply? Thanks
  13. Thanks for your reply. I understand the UltraRendu is a source and the iMac, if used with an Eitr, is still a source. What advantage does the UltraRendu have over a device that is limited to galvanic isolation and re-clocking capability that uses a computer like the iMac as the source?
  14. Many thanks for your reply and the replies of others. I like the idea of the UltraRendu, but I had also considered the Schiit EITR, basically because I could not understand the differences between the two. It seems from your comments that what's happens in the UltraRendu before the USB output is as critical as the quality of the USB output. I thought I could just clean up the output of my iMac and be in business. I was also also confused by the effect of asynchronous USB and you have addressed that directly. Again, thanks for your help.
  15. Ok, So while the UltraRendu re-clocks using the Regen it also eliminates noise that the asynchronous circuit would not address. I assume the improvement varies by computer based on how noisy a given computer's USB bus is?
