  1. Thank Wgscott. I could take it somewhere else but having some medical issues that will make it difficult to travel around. Got an email back from them last night stating they will go ahead and do what's necessary to restore everything so I'll just let it ride for now. Was hoping that it would all be repaired while I'm recovering from and receiving the medical treatments I need so I could have it for listening while I relax. I'm a hardcore vinyl guy but when your mobility is reduced flipping and changing records is difficult. Making a playlist and sitting back is the ticket for that. Thanks for the reply!
  2. Thanks Gonzbull. As I understand it from the company and when I say company it's just one guy, that Audirvana leaves bits and pieces behind that is preventing a reinstall of the maverick OSX. Makes no sense to me that the HD can't be completely erased and start with a clean slate. Then reinstall everything from the original disc's. I even authorized replacing the harddrive if necessary. I'm suffering with major health issues and unable to take on the job myself because well I just dont feel like it and I shouldn't have to. Got an email last night saying they would do what ever is necessary to fix it even if outside help is required. I really didn't want to change software to Amarra or JRiver at this point. I'm relatively new to computer audio and was just getting comfortable with Audirvana and the Mac so we will see how it works out. Thanks for the reply.
  3. I agree and would try myself but I'm ignorant when it comes to Mac and I'm ill undergoing many medical treatments so concentrating on this is a problem for me. Didnt think I'd have to deal with issues like this since I paid for the support. Not their fault they say and certainly not mine all I do is load CDs and hi-res files from flash drive that I copy off my PC after downloading from HD Tracks. Should I ask for the mini back with a legal copy of Mavericks OSX and legal copy of Audirvana all of which I paid for and take to someone who can restore system, I've learned enough about Audirvana to reset like it was but that's about it. Thanks for advice I didn't think I was expecting anything more more than what I thought I was untitled to!
  4. Hi gang my Mac mini went on the fritz so I returned it to the company that built it. They say that Audirvana has become corrupted and when they delete existing Audirvana apparently items won't totally delete and reinstall is unsuccessful. They want me to take it to someone and have new Mavericks OS installed then they can restore my licensed copy of Audirvana. I don't understand and assumed base off their support claims that they should be able to handle all that but guess not. Is there a way to completely remove Audirvana so a reinstall will work or is their someone in the community that can fix it all for me for a reasonable fee and I can divorce myself from these folks? Any help appreciated. Wish I'd just bought Aurender or Sony but have so much invested in Mac mini Berkeley Alpha USB converter and MYoung DAC that I want to give one more try. When working SQ of mini with add ins I have was excellent especially with the Berkeley but I'm frustrated to the max. Read my posts about the maverick driver for the MYoung and you'll get an idea. Thanks
  5. Looks great Mordate. Turntable is awsume! I've recently moved and building new listening/theater room. Have much larger space now 13'x20'x10' high. Will post new pics when complete.
  6. Just in case anyone interested. As some of you know I've been having more than my fair share of problems with the M2Tech E Young DAC usb driver. With goldsdad and Stewart's help I finally got it solved and all is well in my sonic world but I never received a message from M2 offering any help apologies or anything until today that is. They finally sent a response through my dealer to me saying they have never had a bad driver on their web site but admit that the uninstaller did not work properly for some older versions of Mac OS X. For that they apologise for any problems. Well I accrpted there apology what else could I do but I would ask where do they think I got the wrong driver from? And if the uninstaller doesn't work for removal of the bad driver, which OS is it supposed to work for? One with a perfectly good driver? I don't know it's all good now and the M2Tech really is a great sounding DAC so I can forgive and forget kinda! I haven't heard their new DSD Dac yet but it's supposed to be better than the M2Tech. Anyway no hard feelings toward M2 and I'm gonna go listen to some tunes.
  7. Well folks, New Berkeley converter arrived today and is working perfectly. Plugged in Mac recognized it and playing as it should. I'm very happy with the SQ and the whole digital system in general. Still not 100% sure a music server such as a HAP-Z1ES would not have been a better choice over the Mac Mini so please if anyone here knows why, let me in on it. Regardless I am happy with the Mac. The SQ is much better than I thought possible even with the add ons it's very impressive. Now the quest to ring every once of performance. Can use all the help I can get with that. Thanks it's been a hoot getting everything going I appreciate all your help.
  8. Hi Imiche, I agree 10000%. You absolutely do not and IMHO should not, spend $500 for any cable unless it's really really long. A good quality, well made (meaning durable) 1 meter cable should be in the $100 or less range and $25 being a price that a good cable can be purchased for. No offense to those who have or continue to purchase expensive boutique cables, I've wasted money on them myself but build my own now. They look good work great and, as long as I keep bulk cable, fittings, and solder around I never come up cable short. I have a Wireworld platinum USB cable that came with a device I purchased some time back. While moving my Dac out of the cabinet the cable got twisted and one end fell to the floor. I didn't see it and stepped on it pulling large flat USB end out enough to break contact so had to grab a spare which was a cheap flimsy one that was furnish with something I bought long ago. Plugged it in and no difference could be heard by me.
  9. Very good Maj. As I said in an earlier post that while I don't have a lot of Blue Coast downloads it's not because of SQ it's simply title selection. Having said that I always check Blue Coast catalog to see if they have added the selection I'm interested in because of all the sites I use they have been the most reliable and have never been disappointed in SQ for any selection. After reading their response to you I now know why they are so reliable. Thanks for sharing this with the group. One bad (and not sure how audibly) bad were talking about but one would not disuade me from continuing to use them especially with their commitment to customer satisfaction! Cheers!!
  10. Not sure what you mean? I got the message from my dealer that to test the Berkeley they plugged it in the Aurender and he says when doing so they get a message of somekind on the screen indicating recognition. With mine they got nothing. I don't know anything about the Aurender never used one. Did see and hear one in a demo but my problem has been with a Mac mini.
  11. Just a final note to this thread and saga, received a message from my dealer in Texas that he received the Berkeley and plugged it into an Aurender. The Aurender did not recognize the Berkeley either so they agree there is something wrong with it. To follow factory protocol they will contact them in the morning to facilitate shipping a new unit to me ASAP which the factory rep has told me they would do in this case rather than repair mine as I've never actually used it. So with any luck, when I return from my trip to Tampa I should have a new Berkeley Alpha waiting on me and let this tail of woe pass on into memories of failures of the past and finally let me be able to enjoy my new Digital setup as was meant to be. Thanks once more to all those that helped me, encouraged me, consoled me or just went along to see what would happen next. Later !!!!!
  12. Thanks ricka I've known the problem since the beginning but not how to fix it. The uninstaller never worked and always thought it was my inexperience with Mac or that the Mac had been corrupted in shipping somehow. Now I know the uninstaller was the biggest problem and goldsdad was a godsend with that. I talked to a lot of experts even the company that built the Mac for me couldn't come up with the solution but goldsdad did. So I'm truly blessed to be a member of this forum because I dont think I would have been able to solve it othetwise and would have spent more money and down time to resolve it. As to the Berkeley, the experts again have said that the issues with the M2 should not effect the Mac recognizing the Berkeley as it is designed to be a plug and play just like a mouse or keyboard would be. As long as the Mac is working properly it should at least show up when plugged in. I had the factory rep on the phone and went over everything he asked me to try and I let him say it was a bad unit. Plus I had tried it on a brand new Mac mini with mountain lion OS and could not get it to work. However I did return it to the dealer to let them have a go at to see if it would work for them which put me in the plus column with the factory as they wont have to bother with it should it turn out to be fine. Even though it doesn't seem likely that testing in 2 machines and everything I went through to make it work it would be ok I've been working around computers long enough to know that anything possible and the more unlikely something appears that's more than likely to be the problem so I'm just gonna wait and see what happens. Thanks and another shout out to Stewart for steering me in the right direction and his input into the problem and everybody that tried to help! Great group!
  13. Not tried Corning either but go online and check out Lifatec. They use a proprietary process and be sure to look at their glass optical cables. If you use a Mac mini or similar and want a great signal out with no issues from the cable get the mini Toslink to standard Toslink cable. It's about $65.00 US and it is the best I've ever used. Just be careful when handling as it is all glass inside. Not that it is unduly fragile but hard bending especially at the connectors can break it. I like optical and think it can deliver a superior signal. The problem with many devices is the limit of 24/96 resolution which is plenty in MO but many prefer higher rates as I do with the right music and I have to use USB and BNC for my devices to get that, don't know if the optical cable is a limiting factor but I doubt it. It's more likly the device but others here are more qualified to answer that.
  14. I use Lifatec and am extremely happy with their cables. Price is good too. pure glass makes a difference to my ears!
  15. Wow thanks yes let them know, that's first one I've heard of from them. I don't have a good sample from them yet but I'll report if I get any. Was it obvious from just listening or only by the analyser?
