  1. I hope they have not lost faith - it really is a nice DAC. AMR did not handle the release well, reviews were sporadic, the issues with volume, no DSD support etc... They've made it tough on themselves. The SE has not garnered the hype that some competing products have. I should clarify my post above - I can't edit it now: AMR does not develop their own OSX driver. I am still not clear on whether they are fully UAC2 compliant, but Linux - even if UAC2 compliant - is a mixed bag. My Aurender and Antipodes have not worked, but my Bryston BDP-2 did; the Antipodes is UAC2 compliant. Best of luck with the sale - someone would be getting a very nice DAC! Cheers, 91.
  2. Hi Steven - sorry to hear that your neighbour is giving you grief. The SE really is a very nice DAC - I am listening via SPDIF from an Antipodes DX gen-2; lovely! Also, no issues with volume since the second fix - they got it fixed this time. This may already be known, but I have received confirmation from AMR that the USB input is not guaranteed to support Linux. It appears their input is not UAC2 compatible. AMR develops their own input firmware and drivers for OSX/Windows and Linux is left out of the development. This despite being told by AMR in the past they the input is UAC2 compatible and certainly their website suggests it. Thankfully, the SE sounds wonderful via SPDIF.
  3. One week to collect, repair, and return my DP-777SE. No charge. I reckon that is excellent service... just what I have come to expect from Cameron. Really glad to have the AMR back in house; lovely DAC. Cheers, 91.
  4. I have had the same defect with the volume control, twice. The first time was mid-last-year; the repair was organised quickly and efficiently. However, the defect recurred last weekend and another repair has been arranged. My guess is that the issue was assumed to be isolated the first time it occurred. Hopefully now that the defect is "known", will be repaired permanently. Now, onto more positive matters. My local distributor, Cameron Keating of MAXmedia, has been wonderful in trying to rectify the issue - he has gone above and beyond, twice, for what appears to have been an issue with the original design. I hope AMR appreciates his efforts. I certainly do. I have had to put my back-up DAC - a W4S DAC2 - into the system while the DP-777SE is in for repair. What a change. Unprompted, my partner noticed, saying that it sounded like someone had thrown a blanket over the speakers and sounded muffled. To me, the sound is flat, lacks dynamics, and is insubstantial... like so much digital it sounds "reproduced". By contrast, the DP-777SE has the ability to present so much music the way I like it: expressive, direct, palpable and yet still subtly nuanced; musically expressive. Even though I quickly adapted to the presentation of music via the DAC2 - probably took three songs - and can enjoy music via it, I now come home from work and flick on the TV or computer. With the DP-777SE in the system, I would mostly come home and listen to music, usually with my partner and often with a book and a glass of wine in hand. Surprisingly, music at home is not as life-enriching as it once was. Cheers, 91.
  5. Hi George. That is a sound idea, but I'd like to avoid using USB at all. The recent issues have undermined my confidence in its USB compatibility with other devices. My dealer, who might be understanding, does not carry any converters I would want to use and I am not confident that if I purchased from somewhere else I would not end up having thrown considerable sums of $ at the problem only to end up in exactly the same situation. So, I will wait and see what my dealer suggests as a next move. Regards, 91.
  6. Hi again Brian. Yes, my dealer and I have been in touch - he provided a different cable to try; I have also just sent sent details of what I have done to diagnose the issue further. I have broken my commitment to not post further until some progress had been made; I guess I am starting to think that I need to resolve the issue, yesterday! I do not like to tinker with audio systems - I just like them to work - which is why I chose Aurender in the first place. I also understand that sometimes unexpected things happen and that people are doing what they can to help out. I will take your advice and see what my dealer can sort out for me. Honestly, I am at the point where if this can't be resolved, I would happily pay the difference in price and take a N10 and use its SPDIF or AES/EBU into my DAC. Solved. Thanks again Brian.
  7. Another quick question: Does anyone know the transceiver output impedance of the N100? If I understand correctly, the USB 2.0 spec states a range between 28 to 44 Ohm. Despite thinking that my issues with the N100 and my DAC had been resolved by using a different USB cable, it appears this is not the case; the issue persists. I suspect some impedance mismatching between the two units. I am curious about the N100, in part because the power-line current (0.2A) is much lower than what is usually seen (0.5V is the norm). The current should not be an issue because my DAC does not source its power from the N100, but it does beg the question as to what else might be "atypical". If the N100 is not compliant with the spec, I will need to know the output impedance so that I can seek out cable candidates that are likely to work. I suspect Eric is very busy with other users/ issues at the moment as I have not heard from him for about a week after last providing details to him. It must be challenging to keep across every issue and admittedly, it seems that my particular issue is rare. That said, despite trying avoid any drastic action, if the issue is not resolved soon I will have to send the N100 back to the retailer. Cheers.
  8. Thanks Brian. I sense that Aurender have a lot on their plate right now. Cheers.
  9. Hi all, AMM for PC is not showing on the Download page; can anyone confirm when it will be released? It has been delayed a few times now and was last due on April 15, IIRC. It is not a critical issue though - it is still possible to folder browse. Cheers.
  10. Although it is not clear what the issue was - perhaps something related to the AC cable or cable routing - I am pleased to report my N100 is now playing nicely with my DAC. Although I had my doubts, Eric Shim helped resolve the problem in a professional and committed manner. Nicely done. Thanks to Eric for his assistance. Cheers.
  11. Eric from Aurender has been in touch, logged on to the N100, and is now Ix-ing further. Here's hoping he can work out what is going on. Fingers crossed. I don't want this to become a blow-by-blow of my N100 issues, so will refrain from posting anything until the final outcome. Cheers.
  12. I should clarify: I am suggesting only that the statements I have previously referred to are misleading. I am not suggesting that Aurender intended to be misleading. There can be any number of reasons for the misleading statements and I speculate it could be something to do with ease of site maintenance. Also, apologies to Joaovieira for spelling his name incorrectly! Have a nice weekend all. Cheers.
  13. Thankyou Joaovierira for making my point for me. The information you mention regarding the new software is incomplete and misleading. Click the link then read further and you will see the information about needing AMM that I posted previously. AMM is still needed to be able to use the full functionality of the Conductor app for those of maintaining our music on a NAS... and that AMM is currently unavailable for PC, despite giving the impression it is available in other places on their site, for example the N100 product page: The Aurender Music Server/Player series could play contents on the NAS by file/folder browsing. With the help of AMM for PC/Mac, N100 and all other existing Aurender Music server series can display and use meta-tag information of the contents on the NAS the same as the content in the Aurender's internal Storage . My point is this: the Aurender (N100) is promoted as being a convenient, robust, easy-to-use, fine-sounding server solution. In my experience it is not, yet. Cheers.
  14. Update: Contacted my dealer today: he is waiting to hear from back from Aurender... nothing yet. So, I will contact Aurender directly and hope they can resolve this quickly. I develop a component of enterprise information systems and know how tricky systems can be; responsiveness and service quality are critical when unanticipated events occur. Cheers.
  15. Hi, I would appreciated it if you could point me to where I could download this. I don't see it on their site and conversely I saw this most recent news item: However, if you already have your music library stored on a NAS drive, Aurender Conductor can now access your NAS drive content with full support of metadata and album art. Download AMM (Aurender Music Management) to your computer from the Aurender website for the scanning of meta-tags of files located on the NAS. AMM is now available for Mac and a Windows version is scheduled to launch around April 15, 2015. Please refer to the AMM manual on the Aurender website for additional information. I interpret that as AMM still being needed if you want something better than folder browsing. Moreover, it appears it will be now released about a month later than promised for PC (i.e. it was previously promoted as being available a month after early Feb on some releases), despite being given the distinct impression that it is currently available (i.e. from the description of their products). So those of us who are are early adopters of the N100 thinking they bought a complete, robust system are left where?.. needing to browse folders on our servers to play music. Cheers.
