  1. Virtually all electrolytic capacitors have clearly marked polarity, and you're going to have a bad time if you get it wrong. It's standard for caps to have a stripe that denotes the negative side, and typically that stripe has negative symbols "-" running down the stripe. The only exception are non-polar electrolytic capacitors which are not very common and are typically identified by "NP" as well as a lack of polarity markings. Always take photos of the board you are working on so you can easily see the polarity of the original caps; the holes in the circuit boards that the cap leads solder to are normally labelled + and -, however it's not unheard of those labels to be backwards. (I thought this was little more than an urban legend until it happened to me.)
  2. When I bought my ER it worked fine when connect to my router via CAT5/6, but I couldn't get it to connect via fiber so I too assumed it was related to SFP compatibility. Eventually I determined the issue was a setting in the router which had to be changed when using fiber with the ER. Here's what I posted at the time: "The issue turned out to be a setting in my smart / managed TP-Link switch. The EtherREGEN wants the duplex setting on its port to be "auto" instead of the default setting of "full". Since that time I've tried several different SFPs (TP-Link & 10-Gtek multi-mode, Finisar single-mode) and they all work flawlessly with the ER.
  3. Thanks for taking the time to troubleshoot with me over the phone yesterday, I appreciate the great customer service. The issue turned out to be a setting in my smart / managed TP-Link switch. The EtherREGEN wants the duplex setting on its port to be "auto" instead of the default setting of "full". The EtherREGEN is now working great and made a meaningful improvement in my digital playback.
  4. I did test with a PC. I don't get any connectivity through the Ethergen w/ SPF & Fiber.
  5. Thanks Alex. When the EtherREGEN is connected via SFP/fiber to the switch the lights on it for that port do indicate a connection. When I connect a PC or my exaSound PlayPoint to the EtherREGEN out there is an amber light on and one or two flashes from the green light.
  6. Thanks Superdad. Network connectivity is provided by a D-Link DGS-1210-28P smart managed switch. The listening room is fed fiber via a SFP in the D-Link and normally a TP-Link FMC which the EtherREGEN is supposed to replace. I can use any combination of the four SFP's with my existing gear. I don't think I can put the SFPs in the EtherREGEN any deeper without a sledgehammer, but I'm attaching a pic so you can confirm. Are there any settings I should look at in the switch? I don't have another LC-LC cable on hand, since the one in question works with all the FMC's on hand it seems like an unlikely suspect.
  7. Thanks for the relies! The fiber cable is "Multimode OM3 Duplex 50/125 OFNP Fiber Patch Cable LC to LC".
  8. Hi, Is there a list of SPF's that are known to work with the EtherREGEN (maybe on Uptone's site)? I reconfigured my audio network last year with the intention of adding a EtherREGEN down the road, which I just purchased this week. I've now discovered the TP-Link TL-SM311LM SFP's I put in my network aren't compatible (to the best of my knowledge they meet the listed requirements). Yesterday I purchased a pair of 10Gtek ASF85-24-X2-D as they appeared to be what someone else was successfully using, but they don't work either. All four SFP's work perfectly with my TP-Link router / FMC. My EtherREGEN seems to work with CAT6 in/out in my home office, but I already pulled 60' of fiber to my audio room so I either abandon the EtherREGEN entirely or find SFPs that work. Are their any known compatible models that I should be trying to purchase, or do I just keep rolling the dice? Or have I possibly just ordered units that don't meet the EtherREGEN requirements? Thanks in advance
  9. Good, ordering from Parts Connexion should work out well. I suspect the Audio Note cap is just fine, and even if doesn't sound any better, it will definitely give you bragging rights!
  10. My friend got a couple of the Samyoung caps from his SOTM dealer. Once I saw the "Neo upgrade" involved removing a Elna audio grade for a 2nd Tier brand I decided to find something more interesting. I recommend buying the Nichicon Gold Tune KG 3300uf 25v, but you're not going to find it from a Canadian source. The Audio Note mentioned elsewhere in this thread can be sourced from Parts Connexion in Canada.
  11. I pondered this before I sold my SOTM stuff (which was probably a mistake on my part). The little reddish colored film caps that are populated throughout SOTM devices could be swapped out for an equivalent Evox cap (they are blue in color). It would be great if someone with one of the factory upgraded units could post of photos of the internals.
  12. The USB-TXultra does not have a similar cap, the power goes straight from the power input board to the clock board. Since SOTM doesn't make a "Neo" version of the USB-TXultra, so it's going to be hard to replicate one.
  13. The filter cap in the power input board is only applicable on the SMS-200 and SMS-200 Ultra. That cap is the only difference between the later Neo models and the originals.
  14. The factory cap is 25mm tall, and that Mundorf appears to be 50mm tall and 35mm wide (https://www.mundorf.com/audio/en/shop/capacitors/power_caps/mlytic_ag/MLytic-AG/?card=2481), so I don't think it will fit even if you extend the leads and put it sideways.
