  1. Hello and greetings from Germany! I´m glad to read that Apple TV outputs now in 24 bits. Thank you @gregd for this useful information. I´m curious about what Apple TV does with a Apple Lossless File (ALAC). The ATV specs claim that this can be played. Anyway, my first thought was how the get an Apple TV to play ALAC, since it is not possible to store files on an ATV. So the only way is to stream an ALAC to the ATV. Using Itunes with Home Sharing enabled on a Mac and ATV allows the stream. Does anybody know, if ATV outputs an ALAC file streamed through Home Sharing in Itunes in its original quality? Thanks to the user gregd I know that the maximum output of the ATV is 24 bits / 48 Khz. But what about the bit-rate (kbit/s)? Does a ALAC-file with the following specs (16bit / 48Kz / 1076kbit/s) find its way through the optical output of the ATV when streamed via Itunes Home Sharing? Or does ATV downsize the bit-rate to e. g. 256 kbit/s? Thanks in advance!
