  1. It seems that the free shipping includes Canada too. Woohoo!
  2. Excellent...thanks Superdad. I checked out the sellers web store. Lots of goodies there. Even raw cables and termination parts for DIY guys like me. Now all I have to do is drive to the U.S. so I can take advantage of the free shipping. Damn Scottish blood, it can be a curse at times.
  3. Will do. So far I've only seen it for sale in Europe and the U.K. I will keep looking.
  4. Ah, thanks sandyk. I couldn't find that info in web-land. I suppose I didn't look have enough. So the 110 ohm cables would be out of spec then. 90 x 1.15 = 103.5 Dang.
  5. Now we're getting somewhere. So what's the correct impedance of the data lines supposed to be? My intention is not to start a cable believer / non-believer pissing match. I'm just after some technical info and guidance.
  6. What I do know about them is; Belden 1801B; Digital audio cable. 24 AWG 7x32 strand, tinned copper shielded twisted pair, Teflon insulated, 110 ohm impedance, 12pF/ft capacitance conductor to conductor, 26 pF/ft capacitance conductor to other conductor and shield, VP 78%, plus a whole list of other specs. Mogami Neglex W2549; Balanced microphone cable. 22 AWG oxygen free copper shielded twisted pair, XLPE insulated, 3.4 pF/ft capacitance conductor to conductor, 23 pF/ft conductor to shield capacitance, plus a list of other specs. Neotech NEDI-4001; Balanced AES/EBU digital signal cable. 24 AWG silver plated oxygen free copper shielded twisted pair, teflon insulated, 110 ohm impedance. That's all the info I have on this one. Viablue NF-S2; Very similar specs to the above Neotech NEDI-4001 edit; I missed the above two posts when I was looking up this info. Oops.
  7. Yes. But do the cables mentioned meet the spec for + and - And if not, what commercially available cable does? That is what I don't know.
  8. Well that is what I was originally considering with the cables I mentioned in the OP. The trouble is, I don't know if those cables would meet USB 2.0 specs. BTW, I asked Schiit and was told that the Bifrost does need the +5V wire
  9. Daudio... I've read threads and reviews about USB cables until my eyeballs were on fire. I've seen that one too, but not sure if I read all 34 pages or passed out with my head on the keyboard before I got that far. Was there something in that one which addresses my questions?
  10. I figured it was more involved than anything I've done up to this point. I was just not sure how much was science and how much was black art magic. I guess if there were practical DIY possibilities, the web would be buzzing with them. I do have a Belkin Gold series at the moment and thought if I could do better myself, I would. I have no problem buying a better cable either. I just don't want it to cost more than the DAC or the amp the DAC is feeding. I would then have to tear up my Scottish membership card. There are many high end USB cables out there on the market. I'm just thinking "how hard can it be to make one of these?" I suppose as hard as it would be for me to make a Toslink cable. I wouldn't because I don't have the tools and expertise.
  11. I'm new here so don't stomp on me for asking about this... I cut my teeth on audio gear in the 70's and have a large collection of vintage stereo stuff. I'm fairly new to the computer based digital audio world. I recently moved up from a Blue Circle USB DAC to a Schiit Bifrost (used) and figured it was time to experiment with USB cables. I'm a DIY guy from way back and prefer when ever possible to make something myself. I've made many of my own speakers for the past 40 years and have gotten into making my own cables for the last few years. Speaker cables, RCA interconnects and such are fairly easy. (Disclaimer; I'm half Scottish and as such cannot help but try to save money when ever possible. As the Scottish national motto goes...."Frugal. It's an art form not a character flaw.") I know there is great debate regarding USB cables and I don't want to get into that. I just want to know if there are any commercially available cables that would work for USB construction. I can't seem to find much info out in Web-land so I figured I'd register here and ask about this issue. I do have a few cables in mind but not sure what specs are to be met. Available locally are; Mogami 2534, 2549, 2893 Belden 1801B Neotech NEDI-4001, NEI-3004 Viablue NF-S2 I'm not sure about mandatory impedance, capacitance, shielding, etc, etc. Any opinions?
  12. First post here. I have bought and sold 95% of my audio gear through Canuck Audio Mart. An excellent site with lots of gear being posted on a daily basis. There is a feedback system similar to ebay. The prices are usually fair, but I do find them higher than you might find on the bay. Having said that, everything is more expensive in Canada. Like anywhere, do your homework.
