  1. to Paul and maybe some others, First I have to say I never intended to demean anyone, on the contrary after reading one of « mdsn » post , he’s got a very acute mind you know, he was discoursing in almost the same way as one of my sons who studied philosophy and keeps reminding me to use the right word, so I was irreversibly attracted to the thread … «voilà ». Now I will try to dissipate the possible confusion. What’s wrong with our beliefs? In fact nothing per se. If you believe in God and I say it is wrong you may in fact be shocked or pleased… if your an atheist, but those are only two sides of the same coin. Don’t be worry, even if I say your belief is wrong, God, a word I tend to avoid because our mind almost instantly makes an image of him at our image, that is with what we know (anthropomorphism), does not mean there’ s no creative intelligence or God if you will. It is our mental process that is limited and tries to make of the unknowable something that we can get a hold on, and that is exactly what idolatry is, a mental image of God, and that’s what is wrong or maybe good intent to be less rude. But we, humans, want security, a model to follow, a path to heaven. In this way we get very vulnerable to all those who pretend speaking in the name of God. All this leaves us with nothing and we, humans, abhor emptiness. What to do then? Find a new religion, a golden age theory…wait the return of a saviour or …what? We’re really in a mess,…fear, anxiety, fever…we’re ripe to follow any unreasonable talk of the ones who speak loud. Cool it, be calm, that horrible emptiness may be the silence we’re seeking for. I won’t go any further in this thread cause it may not be the place to do so even though to be better audiophiles we should make some upgrades to our understanding. Thank you to all, may God bless not only America.
  2. Beliefs Since the beginning of times people let themselves conduct by the beliefs of the ones and the others. Belief will always be, the word says it all, what it is, that is a belief and not a truth. Facing the uncertainty of what we don’t understand, principally death and after life, some of us try to draw other persons in their beliefs probably to dissipate their own doubts naively thinking the adherence of a greater number will make those more true…more credible. In fact, when the number increases, it must be that it is …true??? And when the sect grows, it becomes a religion. Belief is then …truth…blind faith… of which we make a fundamental right, but wouldn’t it rather be a fundamental error. In evidence there is more to comprehend, but to see more clearly shouldn’t we first take off some of what blurs our visions, that is those images of reality produced by a worried and hence dominating mental, be it personnel, religious or even politic beliefs. We do have to keep an open mind and a reasonable doubt about all our conclusions…maybe keeping it at the hypothesis level is less damageable. I think it was Voltaire, the great French writer, who said: « Le doute est créateur » We wouldn’t let a child’s fears dictate the behaviour of the family, in the same way I wouldn’t want religions with all their beliefs, symbols , rituals and fears dictate our behaviour. Look what goes on in the world… maybe our religions are better or that we are the elected ones or….??? If you think those principles don’t apply in the audiophile world, think again. We,as human persons, rarely approach different aspect of life with a different mind set.
  3. Think about it, do you really believe that an intelligence (God) would have created all this universe just a temporary place to be until we go to paradise if we had a virtuous life. That would be a diabolical God, he should have sent us to paradise in the first place. We make ourselves suffering because we think it’s a way to prove our love of God. The intelligence that created the universe surely doesn’t need our love because then God would depend on us. That would be pretentious to think we have such a power. Even the pope think he represents God on earth … such an humble assertion! Science seems to be able to understand, that is it can describe the mechanics of the world , following the facts and experimenting. It is surely a way to get rid of most of the idiosyncrasies of the faithfuls but it is still limited. Scientists see the world through the lens of time, that is they use the mental time machine, which leeds them to singularities. On the mechanical point of view: the expansion of the universe, dark energy, the big bang singularity, space-time … are sill puzzling us. Quantum mechanics is mind boggling even for Einstein, but we know that it works. On the human side : consciousness, emotion, love … are all out of reach for science. I say human , but it is not restricted to us. Some day, after our beliefs, that is all our mental conclusions about life, having gone through the labyrinth multiple of times, will prove to be wrong probably in a long suffering, but it doesn’t have to, maybe our (mind) Spirit will be free. It is then possible to understand (see) the essence of emptiness. It is impossible to describe, nobody can see that for us and science cannot make an equation of it and arguing or speculating is a vain effort. Eternity has no beginning and no end, we are right in it, a future paradise (or hell) only exist in the time domain, that is in the mental labyrinth… what I call «le piège temporel » or time-trap. Only the present is reality, all exist in emptiness. The process of creation did not only happen in a past moment. The laws that govern the universe are still applying today and always will. Even a photon cannot exist without an intelligence supporting it, energy cannot exist by itself, and that intelligence cannot create something that is not its essence cause then we would have duality…2,3.. Gods??? If the world was evolving on quantum probability principles, even if on a certain scale it seems to be the case, it would collapse instantly. I would preferably say like Einstein did: «God doesn’t play dice »,though I would use the word Intelligence instead of God, it doesn’t have an opposite , only a lack of can exist, and it’s hard to worship. I’m not suggesting we stop using quantum mechanics, it is very useful in its domain. They say faith is believing without seeing, isn’t it blind people guiding blind people… some kind of DBT if you will. I’d say that when we see, not only with our eyes for sure, believing becomes irrelevant. I must confess I had the feeling that some of you, a rare breed, would be interested.
  4. To all the faithfuls … be it science, religion or dbt believers The mental part or level at which humans perceive things resemble the Greek myth of the « Labyrinth and the Minotaure » as if the mind was prisoner and could not have a way out to understand the world and be free , that is be in a state of happiness. I don’t think Greeks imagined that myth just to make a beautiful story and amuse the crowd, it must have a more profound foundation. If you look at your mind processing (thinking) you can easily see that it is stepping from word to word making loops to conclude with words. That internal dialogue … is really a labyrinth. We do that to have some kind of security, that is to have a known path or model to follow. It is quite human but very limited. We always perceive through our conclusions but reality is too vast to be confine into those models even in the most sophisticated scientific theories. Our mind, when stocked in the labyrinth (mental part) cannot see, hear, clearly… too much noise. Sometimes there’s a flash that makes us understand, but instinctively we grab it and put a word on it, a theory. All the mind can do at that level is make an image of reality. It is very very very…limited. When we turn ourselves to understand the outside world (love, war, hatred, pain…) we create an image, a model to follow… a golden calf. Even if it is a statue of Jesus or Buddha or no statue at all it is still a mental image and is still idolatry. If you turn to the inside world in the same way you will create an image of yourself, a truncated ego, a kind of auto idolatry. The mental process is always the same when looking in or out, it can only make images of reality. It’s a very important tool to work our way in this world, but the tool becomes the master. That image of ourselves created by us to conform to the society with all its beliefs imposes on us an incredible authority… the Minotaure. We’re not really free because if we were we could get in or out of our religions without any culpability. Look at yourself talking to you, part of the mind is always imposing itself so you behave in a certain way, that’s our conditioning. To get out of the labyrinth (prison) we first have to know that we’re in.
