1. I've got an old iMac G5 nothing is too weird on it. What could it be?
 2. It's about 16 Megs. Can I send you a link privately??
 3. Thanks for the quick reply Chris! I've been sick the last couple of days so my troubleshooting has been on hold. Here's what I know so far:

1: the HDCD light does NOT light when connected directly to the Toslink out on the iMac or the Airport

2. Audio MIDI is set to 44.1 / 16bit (I've also tried 44.1 / 24bit) volume at -0.00

3. Itunes volume is all the way up and disabled actually for remote speakers

4. All rips were done on this iMac with a Plextor drive using iTunes.

It seems like the key element here is that the I cannot get the HDCD light to "light" even when plugged directly in. It's got to be at the computer level not anything to do with the AE.

I have the latest version of sound flower installed as well but I'm currently not using it. Not sure if this would help or hurt my cause. I can also send you the .m4a lossless I'm using to see if perhaps my ripping setup is not what it should be.

Any thoughts??
 4. Hello all!

I'm a long time reader/watcher first time poster. I have a unique situation that I'm not sure how to deal with. I've got an iMac G5 that contains several HDCD rips all in ALAC. These files stream from iTunes to an AE over an airport extreme. This produces an audible signal over toslink. I've also got a PS audio SL3 that I still love as my DAC. It was my understanding that the AE WAS bit accurate and would pass the HDCD flags. Unfortunately in my setup this is not the case. That same toslink input on that PS Audio converter with a basic CD transport works fine and shows the flag correctly when played from an original CD. It's not my ripping process as other verified WORKING HDCDs ripped on other systems also do not properly show the HDCD flag. Volume control is disabled on the remote speakers and I've tried 44.1 / 16 AND 44.1 / 24 settings in the audio midi setup. I've also tried wav and aiff versions for SnGs... Same result :-(

What am I missing?? Are the new AE "n" versions adding their own dither and wiping out the flags??

Help!!

-Chris Jensen
