Dear david, Thx for your comment. I want a DAC with 24/192 ability, is it rule out 302 and uln 2? I have read that uln 8 and ss model 4 is very good, but it seem that they are more expensive. (DAC2 is around 3000 USD) They are very powerful, can handle 8 channel with ADDA ability. I do not need a build in pre amp, I prefer to use my own. So it seem that 304 is more suitable. I found the sound of Duet is a little flat compare to my original CD. What is the price for DA- 16X?

after reading the SS web in more detail, it seem that 303 may be a firewire interface only and 304 is the ADDA convertor, which is more expensive that a DAC 2, am I correct? Any recommendation of firewire DAC compatible with DAC 2?

Dear all, I want to upgrade my DAC at the new year. I want a Firewire DAC with 2 channel 24/192 ability. I aim at DAC 2 in the last year, but notice that sonic studio model 303 is also at the similar price range. Anyone has any comment? Some other suggestion? Tommy

Yes, after upgrade to 1.02 Amarra can play chinese and Japanese file. Still has problem when file name with "." which you need to delete that.

Eventually, I also get the Amarra with the discount rate. The set up and use is simple, but the instruction menu is too simple, I still don't understand how to use the EQ, anyway I am not not very fond of this but I hope that in future some company can incorporate DRC function in playback. I enjoy the help of Amarra, the delay is tolerable and the sound improvement is significant. I agree that the price is expensive for a software but not so if we think it is a Hi Fi component. However, I notice that Amarra can not be activate with some of my music, after reading the menu and repeated testing, These are music file with chinese or japanese character. The menu said that Amarra can not play if the file name contain foreign character, please change that to english. I live in Asia and I have over hundred of these album. The translation will be quite impossible. I have already email the support team of Sonic Studio about this. I hope that they can fix this bug later if they really want to go in the consumer market over the world. As a computer idiot, I don't understand why this thing will happen. How can the file name affect the performance of the a playback engine.

dear Erik, I am not using the headphone output. I am using a handmade breakout wire. I got the computer output plug from parts store. I test the corresponding connection, then since I am using the Duet as a pure DAC now, I just self solder the corresponding pins to two RCA output and connecting my preamp. Since I am "playing " Hifi for a long time, I got a old silverline connecting cable which my friend made for me as a "test" cable. the wire is rich in Silver and thin, so I just solder them to the plug. Although i am not good is this aspect, i believe should be much better than that breakout cable, which I need a lot connection. So what are you using? Actually, I am not sure about your setting of the Duet, what is the meaning of To instrument amp instead of line out, but some how since they disable the physical control by the duet, it may be good. Since you do not have a preamp, so you are using the controller as volume control? So how do you decide the level using in from software and to L-R?, by ear or calibrate carefully to avoid overloading?

Dear Erik, I still do not have time for serious listening to distinguish whether different Duet setting with affecting the sound quality. But I think the setting may be individual, like in your case you do not have preamp. Also, will you set all the slider all to maximum, I found that the red light of the indicator will be lighted sometime, ? distortion. I got a preamp, so may be I should use the line out? I suddenly realize the duet is a DAC with headphone amp, so in my case I should try to bypass that? Unfortunately, i don't know how to find the ERS paper in Hong kong and can not try your tweak. By the way, I have put all my music in a external hard disk and connected to my mac mini with USB cable. I read from the web that the USB cable using in the connection of external hard disk will not affect the sound quality, is that real? What firewire cable you are using to connect your Duet? Do you think it is significant?

Dear all, I have just finish all my music ripping, resulted in 450G music in the external hard disk. But I found that the other folder including the library information in still in the internal hard disk of the imac and not in the external hard disk. Now I need to move(? export) all information to my mac mini (music server). What should I do to ensure all the information including the cover can pass to the mac mini? I can not use the move folder to another computer method because the music folder size is too big for the internal hard disk of mac mini and the music should keep in the external hard disk and only the necessary information pass to the internal memory. I am a computer beginner, could any one help me to proceed?

I want to made sure that your recommended maestro setting eventually will be output to instrument amp, with Out L-R and max volume setting, am I correct? For the setting to 88.2, is it only work for 44.1kHz music? Do you have any good forum address talking Duet.

I am half way in my plan. I have move the iTunes to my ext disk and continue to rip my CD. So when I finish my job, should I just connect the external hard disk and redirect the mac mini iTunes to the external hard disk? Is there any difference for a mac mini to handle high rez music from internal disk or external disk through USB 2? Is the speed fast enough and is there any audible difference? All my music is in uncompressed format, can I compress them and put them in a folder or playlist for my ipod?

Dear Eloise, thank you for your help. Is there any different when we using using method 1(create a folder then consolidate) or just copy to the external hard disk as method 2. When I connect the external hard disk to mac mini, how can I ask the iTunes to look at 2 different location for music? I know it may more easy if I put all the music at the bigger disk which is the external one, but I just want to store the high rez file in internal disk.

Dear all, I have decided to buy a 1T external disk (WD) to connect directly to my mini by USB2. So these are the steps that I may need to go through. 1, since I use my imac to rip my CD and there is not enough space now, so I should connect the 1T disk to imac and copy the whole iTunes file. 2, I should quit the iTunes and restart with option button compressed, then I should able to rediect my iTunes to the ext disk. 3, I can continue my ripping to the external disk till the end. 4, I disconnect the external disk and connect to the mac mini. 5, redirect the iTunes to the external disk. Is these correct? Can I keep all my high rez file in the internal hard disk of mac mini, so there may be some advantage in processing? Is it possible to separate the library into two, one in internal for high rez file and all the CD format in the external hard disk?
