  1. I’m seeing an occasional issue with my used DigiOne (a recent purchase - but it’s the model in the amazing black aluminum case). Sometimes when I play a 96k file the DAC sync light will flicker - rather than light up - and the sound is horrible. my guess I’d that the DigiOne is using the wrong clock (I know it has two). Switching to a 44.1k track and back seems to fix the problem. DAC is a musical fidelity v90 Any advice?
  2. Thanks - I've lurked for very many years! It was your really helpful diagram - and the work that was behind it - that made me want to test the latest situation. If your are prepared to go to Audio MIDI set up - is it actually possible to persuade a Mac to stream to airplay at > 44.1KHz? I imagine it's very hard to test this. For me ATV is a secondary source connected to an async up sampling 192KHz DAC, so I'd be very surprised if I could hear the effect of a the 44.1 -> 48 interpolation before the 192 upsamping, particuarly now the full bit depth is being used. I may try and compare at some point. For high res tracks it's obviously not a good story, although at least there is a reason (I understand the ATV only has a 48KHz clock). Anyhow - at least a step in the right direction for Apple, the 16 bit truncation was just horrible engineering.
  3. I know this is an old thread, but I did some investigation which might make a useful update. The current Apple TV software (at least on an ATV3) allows you to set the audio to '16-bit' or 'Auto'. I Hoped that this meant that it was now outputting 24bits to the optical output - but I know it's bad to make asumptions. So I commected my RME Fireface to the Apple TV (via and ols Audio Alchemy DDE 1.0 that could convert Toslink to Co-ax). RME privovide an app call DigiCheck that does all kinds of useful stuff - including showing you the bit depth of a stream. So here are some screen shots:- Playing CD quality data from an iTunes server 1.This is in '16-bit' mode - no surprise 48KHz - 16bit 2. This is in 'Auto' mode - and great news - the output is 48Khz - 24bit 3. This is streaming via Airplay from my iPhone - still in 'Auto' mode 4. And finally - this is streaming a 192/24 bit files from a local iTunes server So still 48Khz in all cases - but good news that they now output 24bit. (sorry about the small images - not sure how to fix)
