  1. Anyone know how to identify the Aries with dual femto vs. the Aries LE without knowing if liner PSU was supplied. I.e. is there something on the casing one can look for or would one have to check internally (and what would one look for to tell the two apart) - assume you don't know which PSU it was supplied with....
  2. Yes - have tried DAC delay function with no improvement (not sure what this function does though - would be great to get clarity on the features). Not sure if I need to reboot Aries for the DAC delay to take effect? Format of drive is NTFS Have now also connected the external HDD directly to Aries and fixed some library/file issues - it completes the scan and works better than when being used over the network but I'd say 30% of the time playback starts with severe distortion/muddles up and only stabilizes once I pause the track and resume...fairly random now and across different albums and tracks....
  3. I installed my Auralic Aries yesterday (Auralic with liner PSU and dual femto). The Aries is connected via USB cable to Audiolab 8200CDQ DAC (yes, I know its a weak link in the setup ). It is connected via 5Ghz wireless to Asus AC68U router. iPad connected to same router on 5Ghz. I am using Minimserver on Windows 8.1 laptop with music in flac stored on an external HDD connected to the laptop. I have also connected the same external HDD directly to the router and loaded the library successfully from there. Problem: The music from Minimserver/laptop or when playing HDD connected from the router shows on the Lightning DS app. I can press play and the music starts. Problem is the sound is very bad - it sound very muddled up and "jagged". You can't listen to it - almost like it is playing at the wrong speed. Then I hit the PAUSE button on Lightning DS and then resume play and the track is okay (works 7/10 times). If I pause again and resume it goes back to being all muddled up and jagged, almost like it is playing at the wrong speed. Tidal streaming and internet radio works very well. I have also tried to attach the extrenal HDD to the Aries directly - but is does not power up or get recognised... Any ideas??
  4. I will setup my Aries tonight - do not have a NAS - only a laptop connected to my router and use JRiver for playback with some music files stored on the laptop SSD. Want to know if I can setup JRiver as the media server (so it acts like a NAS) and then use Aries and Lightning DS to access the music stored on the laptop? Want to control everuthing from Lightning DS and just use the laptop in the interim to replace a NAS that would run its own server....Is this possible?
  5. Sounds great! Seeing that I have not got a NAS yet I guess I can now get an entry level one without the need for much RAM and processing power cause the Lightning Srever will take this over? I hope Aurlaic provides some intsructions on how to configure / setup file sharing - I'm a plug and play person..
  6. Can someone please clarify for a non techie what the following from verison 2 firmware updates actually means: "Lightning Server can now use samba network path as source and switch between USB and Network mode. No 3rd party uPnP server will be required in the future (waiting for new Lightning DS V2.0 to enable this function)" What are the implications of this? Does this mean that only simple filesharing is needed without any media server software (no dlna/no upnp) just a shared drive?
