  1. Not sure i'm in the right place, it's been so long. Having not used the hi fi for some time due to health problems, i started to get a hankering for some quality music instead of the tv or laptop whilst recovering. 10 or so days ago i dusted the system, sat back slipped the head phones on, and joy, what joy, back to bliss. Then a day ago due to my mobility improving i was given a task by the good lady to sort out boxes of bits and bobs accumulated, amongst this i came across a usb voltage isolator, given to me a couple of years ago, but forgotten about. So thinking how to implement this i found in one box a Fidelity Audio dedicated 3v psu purchased for a previous project. So i plug the voltage isolator between the Usb cable and the Auralic Aries, then plugged the 3v psu into the Sandisk SSD i us. Sat back again and was amazed at the differences this mod made. I would recommend this small mod to any body. Give it a go
  2. I use xlr connection though out my kit but the poll doesn't cover what i use. I use mainly Chord Company Signature cables, these giving excellent results. With kit in the second set up i'm using my own home made, having tried various combinations i've settled using solid pure silver cores, teflon tubes then doubled screend into Neutrix crystal sockets/plugs, wbt solider though out. It is easy to do it yourself,a descent iron, good solder, then just try any cable plugs etc that float your boat. Give it a go.
  3. If you can afford it get yourself an Auralic Aries use a ssd into the usb input, then a reasonable cheapish dac until funds permit better, then build a nas. Mean time you have great sounds, tidal if you use it, and plenty more, just back up the ssd to a second drive and all is good.
  4. Help please, My last adventure into music storage was on a now extinct Netgear 4 bay unit, unfortunately for some unknown reason it failed terminally taking out all the hdd's. I am now again thinking of storing my music again on a nas drive, which one i haven't got a clue. Currently what i have as a system for my music enjoyment is as follows, Auralic Aries (one with the external psu) Auralic Vega Dac, Auralic Taurus 2 headphone amp, Sennheiser HD 650 via balanced cable. Currently i use a Sandisk 500gb ssd plugged into the Aries, using there app on an IPad 2. I have over 3500 cd's, not all will be copied as before, i will be storing the nas in a different room to my lounge where i listen, this in intend to run via Ethernet hard wired, no mains plugs adaptors. I do have available 4x western digital red nas 1tb hdd's and 2x 2tb green hdd's( the latter for photo storage) So what can you recommend,a nas purely for music, and another for photo's + movies, or on big nas with a combination of drives for the different tasks. How would achieve this, what software, hard ware ect ect. Thank you for spending your time reading this, and i hope some of you have ideas to set me straight. Thanks for looking.
  5. OK, I new here, my readynas nv+2 has died, leaving me with 4 x 1tb wd red hdd's with all files corrupted. The backups both have suffered why i can't fathom, i do have a third back and according to my laptop all files are in tact. So i want to build a replacement better than what the readynas was. My system remains as follows, Auralic Aries, T&A Dac8 which stays, A pair of Meridian 557 power amps in bridged mode into a pair of Kef Reference 203 mk 2's speakers. So as you can see i want to keep it high sound quality, something that in it's self is quite or silent running, some thing i can get parts for and upgrade as things improve. An operating system shall be required, one i can interface with the Auralic and either an ipod or Android tablet. My budget, let put that at around £500 to £750. So Please give me your ideas along with sites where i can look at/purchase items. All files are to be flac.
  6. I am glad i have just found this here about Tidal & Aries having problems, i have spent the last 2 days pulling my hair out (what little i had) trying all the usual to sort things out. So far i've had no rely from either parties. Any body been told of time before a fix is available as my next payment is due in 3 days and i would rather not waste money.
