  1. Yes, an advantage of the Sonos setup is the ability to use its various speakers wirelessly. I have a Play3 which is use on my deck. Just plug it into AC and it will connect to the Sonos system. You can link one or more players together with the same music or have different music on each player. While not audiophile grade, its more a lifestyle product, it can be made to sound very good.
  2. I have a whole house Sonos system in addition to my main rig that I use for background music, deck, parties, etc. My music is archived in FLAC on my server with a AIFF library on a Synology NAS that I use with the Sonos and with my Sonore Rendu. I also have a local AIFF library that I can access with JRiver. The Sonos system is dirt simple to operate and maintain with a very user friendly GUI which can run on your MAC, an iPad and an iPhone. Its main limitation is its inability to stream HiRes, its CD quality only, and its analog output is not that great. I use a Cullen modded ZP80 with a BNC out to my Berkeley in my main listening area and get really decent sound from my AIFF files. Can't speak to ALAC but for background purposes, and with the standard Sonos products, I doubt there would be much difference between file types. There is a new similar system called BlueSound that's out that does HiRes but I have not heard it. It has, however, apparently gotten good reviews. As an aside, you can stream numerous music services with Sonos including Tidal and Deezer.
  3. Problem solved. Apparently a power spike took down my network switch in the garage which was the reason Kazoo could not see my Rendu. I had previously checked Win Explorer and the Rendu was functioning. Failed to check it again before the above post. It just goes to show that it is often something simple which we fail to recognize. Tidal though the Rendu sounds great and better than through the modded Sonos. I'd also like to note that Bubbleguum, the developer of Bubble UPnP, is quick to respond to e-mail questions and is most helpful in sorting out problems. Great software and great support.
  4. Thanks, will do when I get the time and will report back.
  5. No problem with Tidal on Sonos. The interface, however, is very basic and not feature rich. Sounds reasonably good via a Cullen modded ZP80 into a Berkeley for background listening. Have been trying to get Tidal working via Minim Server and BubbleUPnP on my NAS with Kazoo as the control point but Kazoo can't find my Sonore Rendu on my network. It see Minim but no Rendu. Have been posting about this in a thread on the Software forum but no real solution other than Tranz suggestion to try Lumin or another control point. It seems that there is a problem with the latest Kazoo update. Anyone sucessfully using the latest version of Kazoo in this arrangement?
  6. Thanks tranz, have set up Rendu as an OH renderer in Bubble. Have rebooted everything multiple times. Cannot roll back to an earlier version of either Bubble or Linn. No other renders or control points. Frustrating to say the least. I assume there is something in the latest version of Linn that does not me to find my OH Rendu on the network.
  7. Nice to know its not just me. Are you referring to Kazoo updates? From other posts on the Tidal threads this seemed like such an elegant solution to streaming Tidal. Have you had any input from other members or from Bubble re: this issue?
  8. Update. Downloaded the WIN version of Kazoo to test and it opens with "Living Room" displayed along with the Tidal and Settings tiles. No OH Rendu, however, under Media Renders in Settings. Its displays my Sonos media players and Minim Server but no Rendu. I can log in to my Tidal account but no way to stream to the Rendu. I'm fairly sure the Rendu is not blocked as I can also access it via JRemote in JRiver. Any ideas? Thanks!
  9. O'K, so have finally gotten back to my BubbleUPnP/Tidal quest. Latest versions of both MinimServer and BubbleUPnPServer up and running on my DS214+. Found my Sonore Rendu on Bubble's Media Renders tab and created an OpenHome version of the Rendu, named it Sonore Rendu, the location as Living Room and selected gapless playback. Checked WIN Explorer and both the regular Rendu and the OH version appear on the my Network. So far, so good. Downloaded Linn Kazoo to my iPad and now stuck. When I launch Kazoo, the screen says "Searching for room..." and the Settings tab is displayed. Linn just keeps looking for a room and going nowhere. What am I missing? This version of Kazoo is dated May 1. Any help from more experienced user would be sincerely appreciated. Thanks!
  10. Many thanks dmormerod, installed and running. New to DSM, did not occur to me that it would have to be a manual install. Just another senior moment. Now just have to configure properly when I have the time. Onward with panache into the fog!
  11. Another Newbie. First post here but have been lurking for a few years. Have benefited and enjoyed a wealth of great info. Started with a Caps and now using a Sonore Rendu renderer (an updated original) and streaming from a dedicated local drive using JRiver/JRemote. I just got my first NAS, a Synology DS214+, to which I'd like to move my music. I'm currently usinh WHS for secondary/archival storage purposes. I have a reasonable amount of computer/software knowledge as I built/maintain my Caps and all my personal/business desktops and software. Got the NAS up and running on my network, installed Minim Server from DS Package Center and can transfer my music. I can rip with dB to the WHS, the NAS and to a local machine. I'm currently also streaming Tidal through my office desktop system and read on a CA networking thread that I could stream Tidal via the Rendu to my main rig (Pass Labs, Berkeley, B&W) using BubbleUPnP Server and Linn Kazoo as a control point. I've installed Kazoo on my iPad and have been struggling to install Bubble on my NAS. Maybe I'm having a senior moment (quite possible) but I cannot seem to accomplish the install. I've read the material on the Bubble site and have downloaded the server software from the Synology NAS area of the site. Winzip, however, would not allow me to unzip the file on the NAS but I could download and unzip to a local disk. Should the software be installed in the NAS Minim folder, a new dedicated folder or where on the NAS? Assuming I can install the package somewhere on the NAS, then what? I am at a loss as to how to proceed and frankly about to give up on creating an OH renderer with BubbleUPnP. Any detailed info on how to install the server software on my NAS and to properly configure it would be sincerely appreciate it. As an aside, I tried to install the Windows version on my desktop but Norton killed the download and flagged it as malware. Surely this can't be this complicated? Thanks in advance for any help!
