  1. Hah. I used to have a receiver with a parametric EQ and I most certainly enjoyed using it. I can tell you I used the same settings every room I used it in, but I certainly did not set it in v shaped pattern. I really really want the manley EQ if I ever see one on sale. It costs north of 4K, but I'd rather get that than a new car!
  2. or is this truly audiophile verboten? Just wondering. In some sense it degrades source's "truth", but in another sense it could be a conceivably down and dirty way to tame your room (or salt and pepper your output to taste).
  3. This seems to be the the issue. I never got a response from the halide bridge folks, and was forced to figure out a workaround on my own.
  4. So there's apparently no easy fix? I was hoping there was. Has anyone had this experience? I find it highly disconcerting.
  5. It played exactly 1 song and froze iTunes. When I restarted the computer, it was never recognized again on either a mini or mac book pro. I thought this was supposed to be dependable technology. I'm feeling pretty burned.

    Help!

I have a BEL CANTO 1.5 for about 2 years now. It was hooked up to an old G4. The sound quality was actually much better than when the DAC was hooked up to a REGA Apollo (EVEN when using a rat shack USB cable) Well, the G4 is about ready to give up its ghost. I tried using a macbook pro and all of the magic is gone. The REGA sounds markedly better! I'd like to replace the mac, obviously. What's the best bang for your buck solution for under $1K? Should I just get a mac mini? It doesn't need to be a mac, though and I don't mind building! And also would one of those USB/SPDIF thingies help? Can I just use that betwwen the computer and the DAC? I know these are basic questions, but I realy can't make heads or tails of the various posts here. Thanks!
