  1. Well, despite the router firmware upgrade not adding the "content sharing" option, the router entry has disappeared from my media streaming box. So that's a plus. Still no ack message from the Minim forum so I may have to register with another email address. I use my hotmail address for forums, and quite often find I get no ack message when registering, for whatever reason - and it's not going into my spam folder. Irritating. But as my mum used to say - "worse things happen at sea" :-)
  2. Always been good at that :-) I worked for many years for a company specialising in software for libraries. I was always taken to exhibitions, despite being a behind the scenes techie, as I was always able to break our competitors' systems :-). Thanks for the links - I'll check those out whilst awaiting a reply from PlusNet regarding the router settings and firmware. I've registered as well for the Minim server forum, but have not as yet got an acknowledgement email (asked for a resend as well), to find out about the Java error, so I'm stuck on that as well. And I donated £10 when I downloaded it! One of those days... OH - and we are on ADSL, not fibre broadband as well! So I shouldn't be seeing the router as a music server anyway, just to confuse matters.
  3. Looks like I have old firmware on the router. Maybe that's the problem. Found an update - however, there's nothing in the manual and nothing I can find on the router about upgrading the firmware. Sigh. Why do companies make these things so hard :-(
  4. Hi - I disabled UPNP in the Game and Application sharing part of Toolbox. I can't see a "content sharing" option at all, I'm afraid. I have acestream and utorrent enabled in the Assigned Games & Applications setup, but can't see anything about an UPNP AV player! Minim I have just installed, and it blows up on opening with a Java exception :-( Just registering the Minim forum to find what's that's about. Not too keen on running Java, but... if I can get Minim going I'll check it out.
  5. Thanks for that. I've disabled UPNP on the router, and restarted it.It's still listed on the media box, and as a "media device" on Network in Explorer. So no go on that -:-( Will look at Minim - Twonky was very cheap really.
  6. Claude - thanks; I had assumed that I had to have that ON as I was using DNLA via the router. Thanks for the advice, I'll try that. It's a cosmetic problem only, but as other members of our household are technically illiterate :-) I'd rather have that entry out of the way. I'll report back!
  7. Not this one! It's a Technicolor Gateway TG582n, supplied by PlusNet; basic but prefectly functional. Thanks anyway
  8. Hi, I'm new to the forum, and new to streaming music; retired for some years I was in IT for 25 years, and am well versed in Windows up to W7. Here's the deal. I installed a Marantz M-CR510 the other day, to serve my huge music (4Gb+) library. I started by using Windows Media to handle this, but it's clunky and doesn't handle flac files. I then tried using MediaMonkey, but that played all the music as mp3 :-( So, I tried out Twonky and that works fine. However, since using WM, when the music libraries are displayed on the Mrantz box, as well as the one I have defined using Twonky, my router is shown as well for some inexplicable reason. Whilst this is only a cosmetic problem, I'd like to disappear it if possible! Any thoughts on what's happening here? Shuttle SX38 box, W7 x64 always up to date. Thanks in advance JP
