  1. I agree, the internal DAC of most laptops is of lower quality than a dedicated, external DAC. The point is that the promise of jPlay is that you will get increased sound quality for your money already on your existing system. And this promise I could not confirm, when I tested it.
  2. So what you say is that an external DAC is a requirement for jPlay to recognize a difference? Interesting.
  3. Thanks for the advise - will do my laundry next time, when I am listening. That might improve my hearing abilities.
  4. Lucky you, if you hear a difference on jRiver & Co with or without jPlay. Maybe it´s because of the equipment you are using for your chain. When I did the comparison last year on my laptop (MSI-GS70), I was not even using an external DAC or AMP.
  5. Hifidelit, I tried jPlay Mini and jPlay on jRiver 19. Single laptop, no double configuration etc. For the output of the mini player, I had no direct comparison, but for using jPlay with and without jRiver (same song) I can say that I couldn´t hear any difference. My subjective perception, for sure - no scientific test approach behind it. In terms of jRiver feature richness: don´t want to go into details yet, but what I love with jRiver is that you literally can customize it to every aspect of your personal needs. I cannot remember of any other program with such a deep level of configuration possibilities? The rest of the job is done by a good set of amp & speakers. Or headphones, or no separate amp (active speakers). I fully agree and actually when I was talking about "a good amp & speakers", I had my headphones in mind.
  6. I have tested some of the computer music programs, for sure not all. Only a few of them meet the minimum requirements, which are exact streaming of the bits and bytes as they are, and a usable, stable, feature rich user interface. jRiver is one of these programs, and especially in terms of feature richness, it is hard to beat! I started to play around with DACs around half a year. Still don´t have a lot of experience with that, mainly with Schiit-hardware, which is considered to have a solid quality. I was slightly dissappointed, as the gain in sound improvement was relatively low (tried everything from MP3 vrb, 16/44 to 24/192). Maybe I need a 2000€+ DAC to experience the real digital high fidelity? I don´t know. For me trying different sets of loudspeakers and headphones really showed me, how different sound quality can be. Don´t want to miss my Sennheisers anymore. So with my full respect to all of you, who do hear a difference with jPlay & Co (I don´t, and nobody else I know personally did), but loudspeakers are the area, where you can instantly improve your sound experience, which is hearable for everyone. jRiver is already delivering the best possible foundation in terms of audiophile sound coming from the "0/1 format". The rest of the job is done by a good set of amp & speakers.
  7. A 2015 project should be a significantly improved Gizmo interface, I.e., I would like to be able to add more info especially in the movie area. Example: short description of the movie, year, actors, etc. Gesendet von meinem HUAWEI MT7-TL10 mit Tapatalk
  8. Like your comment as I have to agree 100%, so I take the opportunity to have this as my first official post/answer on this forum [emoji1] Gesendet von meinem HUAWEI MT7-TL10 mit Tapatalk
