    Hello John, currently using Mytek / HQ Player in a NAA Setup (HQP Desktop with Ubuntu on a i5 4690 PC, NAA with Windows 8.1 and Mytek Asio Driver on a CAPS Design with Firewire, Upsampling PCM / 1xDSD to 2xDSD). The Firewire Cable between the NAA and the Mytek is a Neo Oyaide 1,0. There is a small but noticeable improvement in comparison to a plain FW Cable. Before building the CAPS i used a 5m FW cable (also Oyaide) connecting the desktop pc directly and the differences to a plain cable were more obvious. The Oyaide is a good choice imho, but it seems that FW lose further ground in the market, the new Mytek Brooklyn DAC e.g. has no firewire interface anymore. Your question about the sweet spot is very interesting ( using 6144000 at the moment). Regards, Thomas

    Hi Miska, many thanks for clarifying, it seems to work with the polysinc-short-mp-2s filter and DSD7:-) (NAA Setup with HQ Player Desktop and Ubuntu 14.04 64 Bit / NAA: Intel DN2800 MT Computer). When using the none -2s filter and upsampling PCM to DSD128 there occur dropouts and typically the cpu load on 2 cores (i5 4690) is near 100%. The CPU utilization with the 2s filter is very moderate in comparison. Tests in the past were not successful, only updated to the new firmware from Mytek (1.8.2 from 30. July). Regards, Thomas

    Hi, concerning the DSD Support through ASIO Firewire Driver for the Mytek Stereo DSD DAC (only DSD64): Is this a driver issue or a hardware limitation? I wonder a little bit, because the Mytek Manhattan DAC seems to support higher DSD Rates via ASIO and uses also a Firewire DICE Chip from TC. Thanks and regards, Thomas
  4. Good experiences with a Teac W512GSA. About 1,5-2 Minutes using DB Poweramp + Accurate Rip for one CD (in good condtion, maximum speed). E.g. with a Plextor Premium 2 i generally reduced speed to 8x, because otherwise i got too many errors and Re-Reads. Good drive for DVD, BD, too IMHO. Regards, Thomas

    Hello Eric, thanks for your clear words, Of course it's the question, if you place a topic in the forum or if you discuss it privately. I choosed the forum because i assume that many people use a mytek dac and a few of them firewire as the interface. The above posts were the last tries to quickly solve the issue but you're right: it was maybe too much... Hope for your understanding. Regrads, Thomas

    And grep-i firewire /lib/udev/rules.d/* shows the following. I wonder a little bit, that the ffado driver is mentioned. Maybe a conflict between snd_dice and ffado? /lib/udev/rules.d/70-udev-acl.rules:# ffado is an userspace driver for firewire sound cards /lib/udev/rules.d/70-udev-acl.rules:SUBSYSTEM=="firewire", ENV{ID_FFADO}=="1", TAG+="udev-acl" /lib/udev/rules.d/70-udev-acl.rules:SUBSYSTEM=="firewire", ATTR{units}=="*0x00a02d:0x00010*", TAG+="udev-acl" /lib/udev/rules.d/70-udev-acl.rules:SUBSYSTEM=="firewire", ATTR{units}=="*0x00b09d:0x00010*", TAG+="udev-acl" /lib/udev/rules.d/70-udev-acl.rules:SUBSYSTEM=="firewire", ATTR{units}=="*0x00a02d:0x010001*", TAG+="udev-acl" /lib/udev/rules.d/70-udev-acl.rules:SUBSYSTEM=="firewire", ATTR{units}=="*0x00a02d:0x014001*", TAG+="udev-acl" /lib/udev/rules.d/75-persistent-net-generator.rules: ENV{COMMENT}="Firewire device $attr{host_id}" /lib/udev/rules.d/91-permissions.rules:SUBSYSTEM=="firewire", ATTR{units}=="*0x00a02d:0x00010*", GROUP="video" /lib/udev/rules.d/91-permissions.rules:SUBSYSTEM=="firewire", ATTR{units}=="*0x00b09d:0x00010*", GROUP="video" /lib/udev/rules.d/91-permissions.rules:SUBSYSTEM=="firewire", ATTR{units}=="*0x00a02d:0x010001*", GROUP="video" /lib/udev/rules.d/91-permissions.rules:SUBSYSTEM=="firewire", ATTR{units}=="*0x00a02d:0x014001*", GROUP="video"

    In /etc/modprobe.d there are two files concerning ALSA, but the dice driver is not mentioned. alsa-base-blacklist.conf includes only: blacklist snd-pcsp and alsa-base-conf: # autoloader aliases install sound-slot-0 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-0 install sound-slot-1 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-1 install sound-slot-2 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-2 install sound-slot-3 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-3 install sound-slot-4 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-4 install sound-slot-5 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-5 install sound-slot-6 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-6 install sound-slot-7 /sbin/modprobe snd-card-7 # Cause optional modules to be loaded above generic modules install snd /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd && { /sbin/modprobe --quiet snd-ioctl32 ; /sbin/modprobe --quiet snd-seq ; : ; } install snd-rawmidi /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-rawmidi && { /sbin/modprobe --quiet snd-seq-midi ; : ; } install snd-emu10k1 /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-emu10k1 && { /sbin/modprobe --quiet snd-emu10k1-synth ; : ; } # Keep snd-pcsp from beeing loaded as first soundcard options snd-pcsp index=-2 # Keep snd-usb-audio from beeing loaded as first soundcard options snd-usb-audio index=-2 # Prevent abnormal drivers from grabbing index 0 options bt87x index=-2 options cx88_alsa index=-2 options snd-atiixp-modem index=-2 options snd-intel8x0m index=-2 options snd-via82xx-modem index=-2

    Hello Miska, one addition: ls -l shows, that only root has access to the dev-Files. fw1 should be the Mytek. crw------- 1 root root 249, 0 Feb 17 2015 /dev/fw0 crw------- 1 root root 249, 1 Feb 17 20:23 /dev/fw1 Is there maybe an udev rule or something else necessary? Thanks and regards, Thomas

    Hi Miska, unfortunately the dice chip is not shown in the aplay -l output. The adapter uses the following TI Chip: Texas Instruments XIO2213A/B/XIO2221 IEEE-1394b OHCI Controller [Cheetah Express] (rev 01) I checked this some time ago on the tc website and i'm using the same adapter on my Desktop and CAPS/NAA. Otherwise i have no problems - e.g. when playing from my desktop PC directly connected the the Mytek everything works fine with low latency (but at the moment only with windows) including upsampling to DSD with HQP. Are there any other possibilities to get the naa work? Regards, Thomas

    Hello Miska, after some tests i couldn't get further with this issue. No, aplay show up only ALC888 Digital / Analog and HDMI. Disconnecting and reconnecting the Mytek was not successful.

    Hello Miska, after some problems (defect ram, driver issues with graphics adapter GMA500) the installation of debian jessie was successfull. I installed the customized kernel 3.18, the kernel headers, libasound2 and the Networkaudio Daemon but the Mytek doesn't occur in the settings menu of HQP - only the HDA Intel Devices (ALC888, HDMI). lsmod shows the snd_dice driver (besides firewire core and firewire ohci), but the Mytek signals no Lock. Thanks for your Support. Regards, Thomas

    Hello, this is my first post in this forum - so best regards to all other members of the community! I follow the HQ-Player threads for a while but i still have some questions concerning the building of a HQ Player / NAA Setup. My Audio System consists of: CAPS Carbon (Intel Atom DN2800MT MB) with Firewire Card instead of a SoTM USB Card (Windows 8.1 32 Bit) + Teddy Pardo PSU -> Neo FW Cable -> Mytek Stereo DSD 192 DAC -> Gamut D200 Power Amplifier -> Harbeth Monitor 30 A second PC (i5 4690, 16GB RAM, …) with a Dualboot Windows 8.1 64 Bit / Ubuntu 14.04 - Configuration should be used for HQ-Player Desktop. So is it possible to setup the CAPS Carbon with Firewire (DICE) Support as a NAA with Windows 8.1 32 Bit or Linux? And what would be the recommended HQ Player Desktop Version for this configuration – Windows or Ubuntu? Many thanks! Regards, Thomas
