  1. Vintage pioneer upstairs, streaming airplay with cheapo audiocast device. Comes though roon, sonic transporter i7, microrendu. Quad esl 2805s. Technics sl 10.
  2. Hi All I happen to be a musician and an audiophile. A few of my fellow professional musicians are also audiophiles and I know a few conductors who are also afflicted. Andrew Litton is one of them. It is possible to be a musician and have HiFi as a hobby. Nothing stops you from it. But most of my colleagues don't want to hear music when they get home to rest their ears. In my case, I inherited a collection of "stereo review" mags when I was 13 years old. I have owned Technics, sansui, marantz, KRELL, dynaco, B&W, meridian, pioneer, Focal, rogue and presently own Quads, octave audio tube amp, clearaudio table, mrendu, sonic transporter, ayre qb9 dsd etc. Sent from my E6883 using Computer Audiophile mobile app
  3. Hi all Trying to add an ssd drive through USB 3, what is the root password? I need some unix help! Will be using it with roon. Thanks Pedro Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
  4. The firmware update is out for the N50a. I updated, but havent had time to try it. It does a hard reset on the machine which is a little bit of a pain, but should be only a matter of minutes to find out how to change the language to english....
  5. And further spent hours on search engines show that this was indeed not a new problem. It was already happening with the N50 iteration, with some FLAC files then. The culprit was the size of the cover art, as it can't be larger than 800×800. My neighbor Derek was able to reduce the cover art embedded in the metadata and everything works now. I didn't have that problem with flac files. It seems like pioneer fixed the flac issue but forgot to correct it with the new DSD format. It's a nuisance, but at least we now know how to fix it. BUT YOU CAN FIX IT TOO PIONEER.
  6. Dear Cebolla Being a newbie, I cannot cover all questions, but I am able to "push" material to my N50a using the bubble app from my Android phone. Technically I shouldn't have to use the pioneer control app. One thing that keeps me dissatisfied is the library structure with my WD mirror cloud drive, it uses twonky and it seems pretty glitch infested. Alternatively, I can use the jriver interface from my pc library. But it's annoying to access a large library using a handheld device.
  7. Dear All, As some of you might now, I recently posted a thread about a very strange issue with a particular album from RR (Pittsburgh Symphony Strauss Tone Poems) which was unplayable on my brand new Pioneer N50A. I kept getting an "unspecified error" message... sometimes even provoking the N50A to reboot. I bought this album originally from Acoustic Sounds and although they did allow me to re-download it, as soon as I tried to explain my issue, they basically blamed my setup as the problem and questioned my intentions. So I came here to see if other had a similar experience with this particular recording. One forum member had shared that they had the multichannel version and that it worked fine in their environment. I was curious and downloaded it, even though my player is not multichannel capable (I naively assumed that Jriver would downmix, or something, as with my Meridian 596/568.2 player). Strike two, this time the message was "file format error". Then the good people at nativedsd.com sent me a link for the 2 channel version, at their initiative. While it was a nice gesture, I could not imagine these files to be different from the ones I bought originally from Acoustic Sounds. Sure enough, they also didn't play. My Pioneer N50A has been playing every DSD, FLAC, WAV and mp3 Iv'e been trowing at since minute one. This was infuriating. The forum thread started to get long and full of unrelated questions. We were about to reach Troll Island and it didn't look like I was going to see the end of this... I was going in circles biting my tail. That's when I got a phone call from Tom Caulfield at Soundmirror/nativedsd. If you are having a problem with a DSD file, you could not have gotten a better person. He and his colleagues apparently edit the metadata themselves. Tom was interested in the challenge and spoke to me on the phone for as long as we needed to, in order for him to get the whole picture. We covered every aspect of my playback system, server, NAS, etc. Once he had enough info, He had a plan. I followed through it and after a few downloads and tests here and there, I finally have a functional copy of the Pittsburgh Symphony Strauss Tone Poems streaming beautifully on DSD. Streaming and digital playback is a nascent technology, still in it's infancy. Those of us who are early adopters have to pay the price in one way or another. I am sure that CES 2015 will bring many new idiot-proof products and the future end consumers won't have to endure so much. But I do not remember the last time I got such dedicated and personalized escalated support. The people at nativedsd.com really stand by their motto when they say that they guarantee their files will play! Tom and I became involuntary beta testers (YOUR WELCOME PIONEER) and the people at nativedsd.com will bend over backwards to help you. I suspect that there are a few industry people lurking around here and that is great news for the consumer like us. The future is bringing loyalty subscription providers and as soon as those "lightweight" files reach maturity, large files will not be as popular. In the meantime, I have a new favorite music store at nativedsd.com
  8. Well folks, the problem has been taken care of. Many thanks to Tom and the people at nativedsd/soundmirror for going the extra ten miles. I will post a new thread and perhaps this can help others.
  9. Aaaand: It doesn't work. "unspecified error". This 2 channel files must be identical to the one, I bought at Acoustic Sounds. There is something in those files that my N50a doesn't like. It even rebooted while trying to play Don Juan the first time. Someone needs to try them in their own systems. Thank you tailspn for going the extra mile!
  10. Very interesting, I listened to the Fountains of Rome with Montreal and Dutoit. The third and fourth movements are supposed to flow seamlessly and they did. No gap, no interruption. Isn't that what gapless means? Apologies, I'm a newb.
  11. The word from my engineer friend is that the files incorrectly identify themselves as DSD128 (i'm talking about the original 2channel ones from Acoustic Sounds). I asked him if this is something I could fix in the metadata and he replied that the sample rate is part of the file header and it's not accessible to tag editors.
  12. LOL, I was desperate. At this point I don't care if it plays one channel ;-) But seriously, I already own the 2 channel version that also doesn't work... Not to mention the other two albums Dvorak and Bartok) I got from Nativedsd.com that play OK. I even met Bradley Michaels of Soundmirror a while back, maybe I should give him a call.....
