  1. Purchased in 2001 [new] for $1400 [wholesale] direct from manufacturer. Similar equipment costs several times that retail. Don't believe I've never seen this model used but I have seen similar amps from Moth Audio under 1k. My amp was a custom build and I've since added Emission Labs 45, Mullard rectifier and Jupiter copper & foil caps.
  2. However you came in possession of the sample I'm sure Schiit would not be pleased to have product upgrade information shared, without their consent, on a public forum.
  3. mp3 files in the MINI Copper. Losing myself to music / audio while driving is not a good idea. I prefer to pay attention to the activity - driving - which my car promotes.
  4. Soon to be 60 YO. Audiophile since the 70's. I abandoned pre-amps many [20] years ago, finding an amp or dac with volume control more satisfying. Almost one year ago I retired all of my [5k] digital boxes and build my front end around a $35 Chromecast Audio puck. I couldn't be more pleased with the results I enjoy today. It's tweaked out and while it's still my weak link I have no screaming desire to upgrade. I still prefer to purchase physical media.
  5. I have a 1m Sys Concepts mini>toslink cable plugged direct into my Schiit Modi multibit. Is it recommended you should keep the length as short as possible? Would they be a potential benefit to using a shorter [6"] cable? No noise issues in combination with the Schiit dac.
  6. Well said AD. Sent from my SM-G386T using Computer Audiophile mobile app
  7. Always a lightning rod for debate. In my experience evaluating the merit of cables, like many other aspects of audio, is married to the resolving ability of the rest of your system. If it can't deliver the information or is buried in artifacts it's like putting z-rated tires on a Smart Car.
  8. I was pleasantly surprised when I swapped the stock brass spikes on my Silverline Sonatinas for Black Diamond Racing cones. All traces of compression I sensed when I pushed the SET amp disappeared. I know the [new] power tubes aren't fully stabilized but it would be a unlikely contributor since it coincided with the footer switch.
  9. I gave strong consideration to Don's amp when I eventually went with the Moth. Love the architecture.
  10. Thanks. For my musical tastes the combo works very well. Not a system to rock out but with careful attention to system building / tuning it satisfies my needs.

  12. No. I had Craig Uthus build me a custom amp.
  13. Running tube amplification for over 20 years and only one [1] tube failure. What hassle, you set the bias, check it occasionally [far less often then I need to check the oil on my MINI Cooper] and away you go. Experimenting with various valves is an option, not a requirement. Sure, it's requires more attention than flipping the switch on a ss amp but demands far less work than some of the computer audio rigs people own.
