  1. Thanks Michael, Yeah I tried that solution and it just doesn't work for me? I stepped away to watch some football and later tried again. I opened PM2 and I could get the first album to play (the one I ripped) and could navigate songs within that album. If I jump to another album it then goes into pause and iTunes "waiting for media". Totally frozen. I can't click on anything. I just get the "error beep". I close down PM and iTunes and relaunch and same thing except this time I can't even play a track from any album no matter what I do? Totally frozen. Ugh, I will try to talk to them. I did download Amarra and is running perfectly. I am able to jump between these albums no issue and no lock up. So I don't know. Okay going to start ripping CDs so I have a collection. I have 100 laid out to go and 300 to follow. 150 or so after these as maybes. The Amarra is sounding pretty dang good to me. What took me so long to do this? I have been a CD guy only forever and the last year just stopped buying. It was so damn nice to go into iTunes today and buy an album on the fly. Flatmap, I will try to get help from Channel D and yes my output is correct. It says "HDMI" which is correct. I am feeding the mini into an Oppo 105D via HDMI in and in turn Oppo is going into my Classe SSP-800 pre-pro. Will also listen to this on Sennheiser HD700 phones later tonight to see how it is sounding. Sounding good thru my speakers. Okay time to start ripping. Three albums aren't gonna cut it (-: I also am viewing on my display. Need to get the iPad remotes going and this is new to me too. Ugh (the remotes for headless use-not iPads). This is a fascinating new area for me. Lot to learn but I think it will pay off in spades. Physical discs were starting to kill my enjoyment and interest. Thanks again for the help. I will try Channel D for sure to see if we can resolve. The Amarra is sounding pretty good though. Need to play. Rick
  2. Hi Folks, I have a question please and not sure if it's me being stupid in a setting (I hope) or a Yosemite/PM2 issue or something else? I am new to all of this and I am just trying to get set-up in both download environments and CD ripping. I had some issues yesterday and decided to step away as I was getting frustrated a bit. I am starting from scratch. I have a new 2014 Mini, i7 3.0, 16GB, 512GB Flash> I was going to wait a couple of weeks prior to getting an external drive to see how it goes but decided to go ahead and purchased the 2TB Passport Pro WD Thunderbolt drive. I downloaded the trial of Pure Music 2 to try out. It seemed like a nice place to start for a rookie like me. My big whopping library is one ripped CD, one purchased album in iTunes and a U2 album that I think they pushed a couple of months ago. I just want to make sure downloads and ripping are working okay before I really start ripping my CD collection in and buy more new music! My gigantic library of three albums are playing fine when using iTunes only. If I launch PM2 I get a "player paused" in the PM2 window and in iTunes I get a big banner message "Waiting for Media....." I can't get none of the three albums to play? Can you help guide me if I am doing something wrong or perhaps it's another issue? I was having some cd ripping issues but I got one to go so a bit of frustration here is you have the newbie and then Yosemite. Not sure where the issue lies? I had talked to someone prior to me setting up this server in regards to the power supply etc and he is in the know a bit and told me to stay away from this 2014 mini as it's plagued with bugs and suggested I return it but after week of debate I decided to run with it. I hope I did the right thing. Maybe I will download another trial of someone else's software and try that on as well. I am trying to stay simple until I get my feet very wet. Thanks and if you have any ideas on my issue with PM2 I would appreciate your feedback. Maybe a set-up issue by yours truly? Rick
  3. Gary and Eloise- thanks for the welcome and info. I have had my coffee and time to dig in! Vacation days are awesome! Yeah, I am reading your responses and reading some other threads and will kick it off. I think trial and error will work best here for hook-up. I am going to try HDMI "in" to the Oppo 105D. I have external speakers AND a headphone amp and cans I purchased a week or so ago. I have the headphone amp running into the 105D via XLR/balanced connection and then I am using RCAs to analog out from the Oppo to my Classe SSP-800 pre/pro. I can currently listen to music or my other love blu-ray concerts thru my cans or of course my speakers. I want the mini to run thru my Oppo so that I can use my cans if desired or thru my speakers. I am going to try HDMI "in" first to see if I can get this to work and I may experiment with one of the other digital connections after the fact to see how that compares but I need to start somewhere so I will start with HDMI "in" via Oppo. This is certainly a nice feature of the 105D. I will need to go thru the Oppo for whatever connection I decide as I want the headphone option or speaker option. If I go straight to Classe I will lose my headphone option and I don't want this. Once again I think this will be trial and error as I learn. Yes, I also have the Apple superdrive that I purchased with the mini. So here we go, let's see what I can get done today from scratch! Regards, Rick
  4. H Folks, new guy here but I wanted to thank you that are contributing to this thread. I am so new to all of this. Never even ripped a CD before! Threads like this give me a bit of comfort. i have a new 2014 Mac Mini that I received last week. I have left in the box while I confirm this is the direction I want to go. Well it is and I am on vacation tomorrow. I plan on spending the day researching this site and getting the Mini set-up. I want to get a few downloads and start ripping my CD collection. New and exciting stuff for me. i also have an iPad I will be using. I do not have any external drives yet to store or for back-up. I will over the next couple of weeks but I imagine it will be fine to use the mini drive and move my music later in the month? I would really like to dive in tomorrow and use what I have. My second question beyond the external drives is connection. I have told by a few folks to just go HDMI into my pre-pro? I have a separate pre/pro as well as an Oppo 105D at my disposal. Just wanting validation about the HDMI suggestions? Thanks very much and I appreciate this thread and site for people like me who are just starting out at the lowest level but hey I'm not too worried. I'll get there thru trial and error I'm sure and some dumb questions I'm sure! Thanks again- Rick
