  1. I'll throw my hat into this ring. I own a pair of Thiels in Birdseye maple that are subtly beautiful and although they are 2-way floor standing monitors they will handle bass down to about 70hz. Not a ground shaker but very coherent, especially so when using SS equipment. They are rated at 88 db sensitivity. I've supplemented them with a velodyne sub occasionally for a movie but I find I like them more as by themselves. Please contact me directly if you would care to discuss further. Regards, John
  2. I currently own an Altmann Dac that was purchased as 16/44.1 I'm considering upgrading this to handle 24/192. Is this feasible? If I do the work myself it may be... thoughts!
  3. I did some checking but frustration set in... I checked for a default in all places... to no avail. The battle continues, John
  4. Thanks for the reply Eloise. Unfortunately this issue remains unresolved. I did check A/V controls in Quicktime and all the settings are greyed out, not active. I don't know a way around this so I uninstalled both Quicktime and iTunes with the same result. I'll try and figure something out.... not sure what. Thanks again though! John
  5. Have been trying to figure out why I can't get itunes to output any signal to my DAC. Foobar works fine. My DAC is an Altman Attraction (16/44.1 only). There is an led indicator that lights when the DAC is working correctly with the player. Again it works fine with Foobar and WMP but will not allow music to play when using itunes. I've checked device drivers through Dell and Microsoft. I'm using a Dell D620 Lattitude laptop and am stumped. I'm certainly not the most PC savvy but I know the basics. I'm running XP Pro and using a Hagerman USB/SPDIF converter. What am I missing......please help. John
  6. I've been trying to figure out why I can't get iTunes to play on my XP Pro based PC. I'm currently using Foobar to play and EAC to rip. I'm using a Dell Lattitude laptop to a Hagerman USB to SPDIF converter to a Altmann Attraction DAC (16/44.1 only). Foobar works fine and sounds decent but I would like to hear what iTunes and even QuuxPlayer sound like, neither of which can I get to play. I've searched everything on each player and can find nothing in the way. Could this be a Quicktime related issue? I'm stumped but will continue trying to figure this out...... any ideas? Best regards, John
  7. Hey Joe, It's working fine now. I switched the USB port I was using and also went to Windows Media Player. Are you using iTunes? My DAC does have a signal detection device which would not respond until I switched to Media Player. Learning process I guess. best regards, John
  8. Hello, I'm using a Hag USB to SPDIF converter with a Dell D620 (Lattitude) laptop as a server. The output on the converter goes to an Altmann DAC (16/44.1 only). I'm running XP PRO and itunes and I can't get music to play. Is there a driver I need to make this work properly. I've been through the setup on the Hagerman site and can't figure it out. Any suggestions? Thanks, John
