  1. I was wondering also does anyone know what voltage the balance/unbalanced outputs put out on the Brooklyn?
  2. Hi Marc, Does seem quite strange that such a fundamental thing such as gain and loading isn't published, nor changeable, whilst I understand they are different implementations some analogue some digital based paths/RIAA both nuwave and m2tech's Joplin both have viable load/gain, the Joplin even has multiple eq curves to choose from covering r2r and legacy phono such as decca. Maybe I'll try another ticket and try my luck!
  3. So I got my Brooklyn the other day and must say I've been pretty impressed with the DAC and from a preamp perspective it seems to do a pretty good job also. One thing that has baffled me though is the phono stage. I looked everywhere for a db gain setting and a loading menu and couldn't, surely with all the flexibility of the device they would also offer loading a gain. So I emailed support and asked is there an ability to change these settings and if not what are the defaults set to? I got a very short (not really helpful answer) MM cartridge load 50k MC cartridge load 1k MM Gain 69.1dB MC Gain 86.5dB Ok so didn't answer conclusively whether there is an ability to change (I'm guessing not) manual doesn't mentioned the phono specs either. Although the above figures make me wonder? Ok loading for MM seems about right, MC loading is way on the high side unless you have a high output MC, why wouldn't they choose something closer to 120-200 which would suit a wider range of carts. dB gain figures also seem incorrect as well usually MM gain is around late 30s to mid 40s and mc late 50s to mid 60s. Am I missing anything? Has anyone heard or enquired about the phono side and specs? Hopefully they consider this functionality in upcoming firmware!
  4. Thanks Paul appreciated mate where do you do this, convert to DSD I mean ?
  5. Paul, yaz, tranz and Scott thanks for all your suggestions and feedback that's a great help! looks like I need to set aside some tweaking time
  6. Hi guys, Currently running 2014 Mac mini (running Mac OS ) with jriver feeding my DAC and linking with my NAS, now I noticed there is a plethora of hardware mods both DYI and bought systems but I was wondering if anyone has any links to any good guides in OS config tweaking that they could share? If not, any tips on setup would be great! It's been running for a while now and until now I haven't go around to tweaking anything! Now is the time
  7. Cheers mate thanks for link I'll check out
  8. Hi Guys I've notice quite a few people now touting WS 2012 as a great option for a music server, is this based on the architecture of the OS relating to processing, audio sub system? What if anything is seen as the advantages of it? Cheers!
  9. I won't speak for others but for me it is nothing of the sort I've been a big fan of SACDs since they launched and have always like the softer sound, also I've put all my R2R 15ips tapes to DSD and prefer that as a digital medium then other formats, why? It seems to be a truer representation of the analogue source.. As always YMMV..
  10. Yeh that's the DACs I'm interested in that converts pcm to DSD
  11. Thanks mate trying to decipher from the list which actually just support DSD (but process in pcm) vs which ones are actual DSD engines, like the ps audio direct stream, any idea which column (if any) relates to that?
  12. Thanks for your feedback appreciated I'm in two minds about how best to serve my digital files, currently I'm running synology NAS via jriver to my pcm DAC via usb, not really sure if I should look at a DAC which has network card and software based media server functionality, a separate hardware media server feeding the DAC or keep with jriver on Mac mini feeding a DSD DAC, hard to ascertain which way is best to go. What I do know is important is having an app control device for easy use..
