  1. I owned a Direct Steam and was quite happy with it. Like all of us, I struggled over time to eliminate the “glare” on the leading edge of piano strokes in the upper registers. I switched out this or that piece of equipment, making small improves here and there. At the recommendation of my dealer, I tried the Nagra Tube DAC in place of the Direct Stream. The glare disappeared and many things appeared I did not know were missing. It is beyond my ability to put it into words, other than to say that everything was just more beautiful. The leap from one to the other was hardly free however. And I listen to piano music 75% of the time. I remain convinced that the Direct Stream is a very nice machine for the money.
  2. I have the W20SE and the ASC-10 also. My 20 “sees” the data on the ASC-10 just fine. The manual explains how to achieve that. I will find it in the morning and report back.
  3. I use AES too. it just plain sounds better.
  4. Bear in mind that the MC20 is designed to be paired with only a select group of very sophisticated DACs. The MC10, at a much lower cost point, is for all the others. I am told that the MC20 does not improve the performance of the MC10, again unless one has one of the select high-end DACs.
  5. Yes, Ari, wishing you success in your new venture, although I have no doubt you’ll make your own.
  6. Do you mind walking us through the process to disable a private wi-fi address?
  7. I am sorry to report this, but your placebo effect argument appears to the correct one. The problem, sadly, is not in the stars.
  8. I am 99% convinced that the problem lies not in the app. I am surely goofing something up. To check you placebo thesis, let me listen again through both apps to see if the difference is still there.
  9. I assumed as much. That leaves open the question why the sound is so different when I switch apps. There has to some other explanation.
  10. I have a question about the comparative sound of version three and version four of the conductor app. I just listened to track five on Cecilia Bartoli‘s Misson (Amani, e vederai) using version four. It sounded OK, but the mandolin had no weight in the lower registers. It’s somehow seemed altogether thinner. So I played the same track using version three of the conductor app. And the old sound I’m used to was there. The whole piece was fuller, there was weight again to the bottom registers of the mandolin, etc. It’s hard for me to imagine that the app would cause this. Does anyone suggest an explanation or a fix?
  11. Quadifusor: The problem you have is the one I also had, or so it appears. A five minute phone call to the help desk and it was fixed.
  12. I had to update my operating system to download the new conductor app, which I could not have done without the help of the Apple Store. Quite a lengthy process actually. Once updated, the app quickly downloaded. I my case, however, it is essentially functionless. It says “please connect to Aurender” but the “view all Aurenders” button doesn’t work. The “how to connect” button, when pushed, tells me to select “Add” but there is no “add” button to select. I have written to the help desk about this. If anyone has a suggestion for a non tech savvy person, it would be appreciated.
  13. What a smart comment! I think I will take my ipad to the apple store. I’m in over my head.
  14. My “version” screen says: Aurender App. Version : 3.28(2). The app store will not let me download 4.1. It gives me a screen with a finger print image, but when I touch it, nothing happens. Any suggestions?
  15. Never hold the power button down. I did that and got away with it, but I was later told it is a no no.
