  1. I spent a visit chez Pure Acourate Sound Project in Germany yesterday. They will be at MHE next month as well. Not sure I have ever heard such a precise, clear an touching bass section ever. When back in France next week I will prepare an article for Chris about that sensation. Here are some quick pics ...
  2. Lady Blackbird (feat. T. Horn) - Slave to the Rhythm
  3. There are only a chosen few that can keep up their standard continuously (high), like @Archimago. It may help when reviews aren't' your day job. There are guys at YT like NewRecordDay, who try to make a living out of it, but you will need to compromise. Not sure 9 years at YT is a sustainable life plan, but hey there is tiktok as well ... However attention economy pays for / sells with ... audience. And as an enthusiast I am happy some people try to be reasonable with their reviews and deliver valuable information and food for thought, at least these are some of my personal goals.
  4. Hi, good morning Chicago ! Imho, the approach of the manufacturer seems to me not really adjusted to the 21st century, where it doesn't seem impossible that your customers may pay for your product and have it dropped off at places where people with knowledge (assumed as he seems to be an EE), testing equipment (Klippel) and a significant audience (in this case it's about Erin on YT) before they use it at home ... Given this is not a unusual setting anymore, manufucturers should be aware that they may have already an profile (to gain or to loose) within the online community, and either you don't give a dime on it (Like Mike the Purepower mechano) or you try to adjust, at least a bit. Threating with lawyers to overcome his own past of unfullfilled announcemnets of presentig measurements that are MORE correct than the ones other people take from his designs and publish in the internet seems very much connected with his own personality flaws. I found Erin's decision to re-measure with feets honorable, and I would have wished for the Tekton brand (and the people dependend on its success), that its owner would have stopped right there. Obviously he can't - as one may notice in the asr forum. I would be surprised if in his lifetime he will achieve to strive back into a positive brand recoginition zone. Thus, he may have better used another personal taste direction to explain why his speaker does not conform to the aquainted taste of faultless performance. If he would be my friend, I would tell him that he behaves like a bully moron. But he isn't. ;-)
  5. yes, but I would need to split the signal and the XTZs prefer XLR input This sub output is not supported by HP/LP thus it doesn't cut the low frequency for the A80
  6. Hi all, very soon I'll bring a system of mine to my oldest friend's 60s birthday. It contains 2 Subwoofer XTZ 10.17 (30-160hz) 700w, my two active Airpulse A80, the SMSL D6 DAC with dual outputs (both hot) on RCA and 6.5 TRS for balanced. As I want to use the TRS to the subs, which have a high pass and onboard PEQ, my idea was to send the analog signal of the D6 RCA outputs to my WIIM pro, using parametriq eq setting for the output with a low (shelf) pass in order to deprive the small active bookshelfs from their activity below 100, 120 or 150 hz. Not sure which might be best ? I would feed the analog signal into the analog input of the A80s. Definitely loosing some signal quality, but gaining the use of parametric eq for that signal to run the 4.5" woofers in more relaxed way. That's my primary consideration. The environment is a party with 30-50 guests, thus I may think quality loss to 85-90db SNR may not be too critical.. Alternatively, I could send the high quality signal from the D6 to the A80 without low pass and push the 2nd signal through the WIIM, however I noticed a difference in VRMS: WIIM Input 1 VRMS, D6 balanced out 4 VRMS - or leave the WIIM PEQ completely out of the game. Hey community: Happy to receive your considerations, ideas, opinions, advise, shoulder patting ;-) Tom
  7. There had been a long teasing period, but it's out now The Zappa remixes, also in Atmos for @The Computer Audiophile Happy egg search everyone 🐰
  8. Hope you had some fine wine to get over the lack of dynamic range ;-)
  9. Very true, this ! I've played my youngest son's favorite piano piece for him through his IPhone - BT - Spotify to (then mine/now his) active speakers - and then made him listen to the same in 24/96 flac. He completely appreciated the day/night difference in sound quality, though he continued listening with Spotify quality by BT. He is not buggered at all by this difference, as he values ad-hoc conveniance in daily live much higher than having to invest (time, money, knowledge) into exceptional quality. I have the feeling that the pure act of listening to music and it's sound qualites as standalone task that receives full concentration is likely quite uncommon for today's younger generations. Consequently, the perceived value and the attached active invest may be at different levels than with the boomer and gen x.
  10. The pianist Maurizio Pollini has sadly passed away https://www.washingtonpost.com/obituaries/2024/03/23/maurizio-pollini-classical-pianist-dead/
  11. You are officially my first source of information for Rolls Royce now. I have actually never heard of that model. ;-)
  12. paywall - but found it on yahoo https://finance.yahoo.com/news/millennials-become-richest-generation-history-122845663.html?guccounter=1 however, I may assume there might be some changed demographics behind it, like older parents from the top bracket (example Robert de Niro) - with a limited number of kids inheriting earlier than the majority of our generation. I have friends older than me with parents in their 90s, which seems to be great, but rationally its less great from a personal wealth perspective as it is in focus in the fortune article, which -imho- shows a couple of numbers that aren't worthwile without context. Another thing not effectively explained is the difference in net value compared to the base (i.e. 1980). There is a rate of inflation, rocketing imobilia prices and such. You may not inherit more than your parents (a house, some ground, some money, some gold) , but the nominal value may be tripled ...
  13. I assume that ain't you, your slowness ;-) The term "stake" meant literally the piece of cake filled with a certain number young audiophile enthusiasts as a part of a cake diagram comprising the full cake called "audiophiles". And I can see why it could sound unclear, because the represented number within the cake piece (stake) may be actually a function from another cake: The piece of cake called "budget of new/young for the audiophile hobby". From the "young people's budget available for hobbies" cake, that could be divided in pieces of expensive hobbies like sports/traveling/gaming/social media/television-cinema/going out/betting/cars/pets/audiophilia-music. Books may be not part of that, generally. As a result of having less budget available the number of young/new audiophiles pursuing the hobby may be more limited than in the 80s.
  14. Given my opinion may sound quite critical to extreme capitalism, I’d like to clarify 1)That I deeply criticize (from a post historical position) real existent socialism (alt. communism) , post-socialism and it’s outcome in the 21st century. For failed economics, injustice and especially personal freedom related shortcomings of “the chosen few” which usually made/make the majority of people in these systems suffer for the “new” aristorcrazy. 2) Imho, the same reasoning /criticism should be applied on capitalist industrial systems, too 3) My vision on economic matters may reflect on reality (and data), not on illusions like wealth and “the American dream”, that even in America barely allows the Pareto optimum to be successful in a matter that allows them to live a debt free life 4) Audio equipment is for the majority never the impediment to musical enjoyment, as most teenager with a walkman/discman/ipod/phone may tell you. 5) for the ones it is important, we are discussing and presenting opinions here about equipment, music set ups etc., and I hope that I am not mistaken that a couple of readers may agree with me and I am happy that others agree with your views, too ! ;-)
  15. This seems to say that the original premise of young people not interested, is false? Depends on your definition of false ;-) It might be false to assume that because Reddit has a subreddit called /audiophile, that the posters/readers are prone to spend in top third of the market which atm defines the term “audiophile” with its presence within audiophile press and events. There might be other "false" assumptions be possible and not completely untrue ;-)
