  1. It will be fun to read the follow-up and comparison with his reference system, and whether the Spatial software improves it as well. My guess is the Spatial solution will make the $12K Spatial system outperform his 3x system without the software, and when he uses it with his reference gear, it will leap-frog the Spatial system. Thus, Spatial will improve any system, and high-end systems will still outperform lesser systems. In either case, it will turn out to be a very effective $3K.
  2. The VAC website is sparse on details, although the photos seem to indicate it doesn't accept > 48KHz. At $7,500, that's an expensive low-rez device.
  3. It's now Feb. 2010--has anything come along that makes it easier to rip and play back a Blu Ray disk? Has Apple done anything to accomodate Blu Ray? Finally, is anybody making a standalone server with a ripping capability?
  4. I'm looking at some very high efficiency (100dB), single driver speakers. How much power is necessary to drive these to moderate sound levels in a reasonably small (150 sq. ft.) room? Is it possible to use just the output from a high quality DAC (Wavelength, Weiss, Berkeley)? If not, can the output stages of these DACs be modified to increase output and power a 100dB speaker directly?
  5. and a headphone output!!!!
  6. Does anyone have either of these DACs with volume control? How exactly does it work? Is it possible to control volume from the Mac remote (as with the Proton) without degrading sound quality? Also, how many outputs do these DACs have? I would like to use the DAC as a single device for output to a power amp and to headphones, if possible. Any other observations are appreciated.
  7. Hopefully soon there will be a modification allowing an iTouch/iPhone with the Rowmote app to control the digital volume on the Minerva? Would that provide full range, high quality volume control with minimal, if any degradation to sound quality at lower volumes? If so, and you combine with a Mac Mini and active speakers, this could be the ultimate minimalist, 24/192 capable audiophile system.
  8. This is the long-awaited, oft-delayed NYA we're talking about. June 2 release? Perhaps June 2, 2019. Just waiting for the press release--he's changed his mind again and will release the also oft-delayed Toast album instead. Hope I'm wrong!
  9. How about starting from scratch with 1GB/120 (the cheapest one), upgrading to 2GB for $50, replacing the 120GB hard drive with a 256GB SSD (or maybe 512GB when Toshiba releases it)? Seems that would eliminate drive noise, and run much cooler, hopefully eliminating fan noise. I assume the 2.5" SSDs would fit--please correct if I'm wrong. Would a SSD introduce any other issues (like RF) if the Mini is near the USB DAC?
