  1. Sorry, yes degrees Celsius is one of the SI derived units - it was always the one we used on Open University science courses.
  2. What would you use to measure temperature, degrees Kelvin? Celsius is now the more widely accepted term for the old centigrade scale, at least amongst scientists, etc. - in fact it's the SI unit. Being from the UK I've learned not to question the North American way of formatting dates.
  3. I've listened to about half of the album and it's definitely worth getting, if you like the Mozart violin concertos. Lovely, clean performances, well up to Isabelle Faust's usual standard, and would be my first choice amongst other versions I've heard. Is there any way you could sample one of the concertos?
  4. Thanks Bob, frustratingly the HDTracks UK website isn't showing the album and the US website keeps bouncing me back to the UK site. I've decided to go with the eClassical offer, as I had a sudden urge to listen to it tonight.
  5. I really like the violin concertos - I think Mozart was in his late teens when he wrote them, so well into his stride. I also greatly admire Isabelle Faust, so should imagine these would be worth getting. I've noticed that eClassical also have a new release discount on this album, so you get the high res download for the same price as CD or MP3. Don't know how this compares with the HDTracks offer, as it's different in the UK. Definitely tempted. eClassical - Mozart: Violin Concertos
  6. This got a really good review in the December (?!) BBC Music Magazine - it's the Recording of the Month. So, I bought the high res download from the Hyperion web site and think it's excellent, a great performance and recording. A very good 'In the South' as well.
  7. Buy a Mac - you'll never look back BTW I use JRiver on a Mac
  8. Presto Classical have the 1956 Barbirolli as a download http://www.prestoclassical.co.uk/r/Istituto%2BDiscografico%2BItaliano/IDIS6624#download Sent from my iPad using Computer Audiophile
  9. This is the Handley CD I've got, great couplings as well https://www.amazon.co.uk/Elgar-Enigma-Variations-Edward/dp/B00000DR1K/ref=sr_1_3?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1473453011&sr=1-3&keywords=enigma+variations+handley There's a review of Boult's 1970 recording in Gramophone which might help http://www.gramophone.co.uk/editorial/elgars-enigma-variations I've not heard the Monteux recording - sounds interesting. Andrew Davis and Barenboim are both good with Elgar but I don't know their Enigmas. Sent from my iPad using Computer Audiophile
  10. Boult and Barbirolli are the versions I grew up with and still love both. Vernon Handley is a brilliant Elgar conductor and his Enigma is excellent. Avoid Bernstein because of his super slushed up, slow to the point of stasis Nimrod variaton. Elgar's own versions make fascinating listening, though sound is obviously limited.
  11. Yes, I forgot to mention DaCapo - excellent recordings and a good download service.
  12. +1 for Linn and Hyperion. I've also found Chandos very good.
  13. I've been having "quit unexpectedly" problems since upgrading to MC 21. Just noticed the .31 update though so will install that and see how it goes.
  14. If you want to try Nielsen, this album of Nielsen's orchestral music from Dacapo is excellent:- Carl Nielsen: Orchestral Music (6.220518) - Dacapo Records For the symphonies, I'd agree with Bob and start with 3, 4 and 5.
