  1. I saw their Black Friday sale, so I purchased Amarra 4 Luxe. Now I'm trying to install and configure it, and I'm wondering if even $66 was too much to pay. I've submitted several support tickets already this morning, and it seems pretty clear that the Windows version is Beta-level at best. While I am waiting for them to sort out the Windows version, I was thinking of taking an old Macbook Air and configuring it as a Amarra-only machine. Could anyone with Mac experience give me any direction about how to configure Mac OSX (10.9.5) to maximize Amarra performance? (At this point, I'm not even trying to use the library function, just Tidal, but I would like to use the MQA decoding.)
  2. My experiences trying to switch from iPhone to Android were very similar, but there is one thing you didn't mention: Playing music in the car. This is a whole 'nother level of hell for anyone trying to use an Android phone as a high-quality audio source. Many OEM and aftermarket car head-units have a USB connection that, when connected to an iPhone, will talk to the phone as if it is an iPod. It will instantly read the music library, display album art and other data on the head unit, and respond to transport commands from the steering wheel controls. When you switch to another app such as Tidal, everything still works the same. And your battery gets charged while you drive. When using Android you have several options: 1) Connect through Bluetooth. It's convenient, and the metadata and steering wheel controls work as expected. But the sound quality is awful. Meanwhile, the battery is drained, not charged. 2) Connect through 3.5mm Aux input. This improves the sound quality compared to Bluetooth (and is probably amazing if you have an LG v-series phone), but there is no metadata display, no steering wheel control, and no charging. 3) Connect through USB as a media device. Wait an interminable amount of time waiting for your library to load, and even then, your playlists probably won't work. Other applications like Tidal definitely won't work. Hopefully Android Auto solves some of these issues, but installing a whole new head unit is (even by Android standards) asking a lot of the user just to get back up to par with the iPhone as an audio player.
  3. Anyone tried the NanoHat PCM5102A DAC? For $10, I wouldn't expect much, but if it would work as a Roon enpoint, it might be pretty great for a low-fi zone. NanoHat PCM5102A [h=1][/h]
  4. NanoPi Air? Does the wifi run on a separate bus from the USB? Is there a distro that will allow it to run as a Roon endpoint?
  5. Or perhaps compare Tidal on the CCA to Tidal on the netbook. (Of course, this only works if Tidal can talk directly to the USB DAC. The last time I tried it with my Dragonfly Red, Tidal could only see it as 24/96 so it wouldn't talk to it in direct, exclusive mode.) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. FWIW, Tidal now works on my (Sony) Google Cast TV. As a bonus, it responds to transport control commands from the TV remote control, so I can cast a playlist from my phone, and my wife can pause or skip a song without having to find her phone, open the app, and turn on casting.
  7. My CCA started working again. Now if I could just get Tidal to work with my Google Cast TV...
  8. Anyone else having problems Chromecasting Tidal since the iOS app update a few days ago?
  9. Even audiophiles who don't like their music have to appreciate the effort and innovation that went into their sound system. Who doesn't love the idea of an enormous tube-powered line array? http://www.kvart-bolge.com/#!A-Wall-of-Sound-How-The-Grateful-Dead-Built-the-First-Modern-Concert-PA-System-and-the-Second-Largest-to-Date/c1rr6/558c43c90cf2bba6953743f1
  10. It's funny you say that; as soon as Jerry died, I noticed a huge increase in the number of people at Allman Brothers shows wearing Grateful Dead t-shirts.
  11. You have to admit, though, the original (CD) version of "Attics of My Life" was pretty awful compared to the remastered versions.
  12. Anyone notice the "LPS" on the bottom right of the Chromecast power adapter? Does that mean anything?
  13. How old is the disc? When ripping CDs that are 15+ years old, I've had more problems with the degradation of the media than with scratches, and this problem usually happens on the last track or two.
  14. Excellent point. Tidal does list some of the production and performance credits and reviews of a lot of albums, and Roon does a great job of taking the "jacket" experience into the 21st century, but I don't think any service includes the full liner notes and all the artwork.
  15. Heartbreaking and true, just like almost every other song she writes.
