1. I have a SBT that I bought new many years ago. I have been quite happy with it. However, I fear that it will eventually die or the Logitech software will no longer be supported. I have considered the Sonos Connect due o price, size and the fact that I have powered speakers. However, I read that the Sonos will not play Apple DRM directly so that songs must be downloaded to an iPad or iPhone to work. Now, my SBT will play my iTunes library from my iMac, even if the computer is not on. What are my options ? Barrydmd
 2. I want to play I-Tunes from my Mac Mini into my home stereo. The stereo is of good quality - Linn Ninka speakers, a VTL pre-amp and a McCormack power amp. I want to get a good DAC, but I don't know how much the sound will improve with an expensive DAC given that the source material is Apple Lossless and AAC files. Any thoughts on which DAC to buy ? My desktop AudioEngine 2 speakers are connected to the Mini with an old Devilsound DAC. Might I be just as well off to split the analogue out from the Devilsound and send it to my VTL pre-amp ? barrydmd
 3. How useful are the high-res DAC's if there are not a lot of high-res music downloads available ? BarryDMD
 4. Today I set up my new Squeezebox Touch via my wireless network, and it works fine streaming my I-Tunes music files and internet radio. I am very impressed with the sound. However, now there is no sound coming out of I-Tunes into my desktop computer speakers - even with SBT turned off. No sound at all including news videos or You Tube videos. I have a Mac Mini. What to do? barrydmd
 5. I recently purchased a Squeezebox Touch to stream my I-Tunes music files from my Mac Mini to my home stereo. I have not set it up yet. For the time being I will be using the analogue outs from the SBT into my stereo's pre-amp. Later I may consider an external DAC. My stereo is about 15 years old, and it retailed for about $8,000 when purchased for amp, pre-amp, CD player, speakers and sub-woofer. Most of my music files are AAC files downloaded from I-Tunes or Apple Lossless ripped from my CD's. Given the quality of these files, how much would be to much to spend for the DAC. In the future, I may not stream wirelessly, but hardwire to the DAC from something like a MacBook Pro. Also, even though my current files are AAC and Apple Lossless, I may in the future be downloading more high res files as more product becomes available. Any thoughts, barrydmd
 6. It has been said that streaming to the Apple TV vs storing ITunes on the Apple TV might result in better sound. How would this compare to streaming to the airport Express? In either case the unit would be connected via toslink to a DAC and then to my main stereo. BarryDMD
 7. Still practicing at age 65. Am I the only one here still practicing? barrydmd
 8. I am using ITunes on a Mac Mini with a Devilsound DAC connected to AudioEngine 2 speakers. If I were to upgrade the DAC, how much would my sound quality be limited by the speakers ability and the ability of the MAC Mini output via USB or Toslink? Barrydmd
 9. Music Giants support answered my question. Go into My Account on the Music giants home page, and you can change your download location. barrydmd
 10. I have a Mac Mini on which I have Windows XP running using Boot Camp. The hard disc partition for Windows is rather small, so I don't want to use up a lot of space with my Music Giants downloads. On the Mac OS I have my ITunes music files stored on an external LaCie hard drive. If I get another external hard drive for Music Giants, how do I move my existing music files on to the external drive, and how do I make sure that future Music Giants downloads will be stored on the external drive? barrydmd
 11. Chris:

If the DevilSound is adequate for now, and I can't upgrade my ears, and a Mini upgrade probably wouldn't help, this only leaves the speakers.
I am using some pretty good CD's to compare Apple Lossless and WAV, etc.
I don't know how much difference there would be with the AudioEngine5's.
My main system is roughly an $8,000 set-up, and I know that component matching in terms of cost/component is somewhat important. You wouldn't put $200 speakers with a $4,000 amp/pre-amp. But I would hate to invest close to $1,000 for something like the NHT MOO's only to find only a slight sound upgrade.
Another consideration is that I like the size of the AudioEngine2's. They fit in nicely on my computer desk. Bigger speakers like the 5's and the MOO's would be a bit overwhelming sizewise. I don't really need more bass, so I don't think that going to a 2.1 system would be neccessary.

What to do?

Barry

12. As posted previously, I recently purchased the AudioEngine2 speakers and the DevilSound DAC to use with my Mac Mini. I am enjoying the sound, and it has prompted me to get into ripping my Jazz CD's and downloading songs from ITunes.

However, when ripping a song from CD to ITunes, I am unable to discern a difference in quality of sound between AAC, Apple Lossless and WAV.
Is this a factor of the quality of the DAC, the speakers, my ears or all of the above?

Barry
13. Vincent,
You get what you pay for. I've looked for years for a $40,000 car which costs $20,000 - it does not exist.
For $250 the Devilsound DAC is quite nice. I bought the AudioEngine2 speakers and connected them to my Mac Mini via the Devilsound. The result was very nice.

Of course now I'm thinking how much better would it be with the AudioEngine5's and the Apogee Duet DAC . What I bought is what I could afford at the time, but I'm afraid I am smitten with that dreaded audiophile sickness - UPGRADE!

Barry

14. Chris:

Thanks for your great site! I recently purchased the AudioEngine2 speakers, and today I ordered the Devilsound DAC.
Given my budget and listening habits at my computer (Mac Mini) desk, this DAC is exactly what the doctor ordered - no pun intended.
My primary stereo kit in the living room would retail new for about $8K, so at some point when I am flush, I will consider which server and DAC to to buy for that arena. Benchmark DAC1USB, Stello DA100, Apple TV and additional Mac mini come to mind thanks to you and other sites.

barrydmd
 15. In the PS Audio newsletter using the Apple TV as the server it is suggested to "share" your ITunes files from your primary computer via wi-fi. Can this be done if the Mac Mini is the server? Also, if you have the ITunes files both on the Mini server and your primary computer, do you really need a backup hard drive? barrydmd
