  1. UPDATE: I switched the Mytek's volume control from digital to analog and back. The issue has not returned in limited play. I'm using JRiver's preview mode to run through some playlists for a few hours. We'll see... -Art
  2. So, been running this Mytek 192 firmware 1.35.22 for a while without issues until today. Had headphones on, playing JRiver via USB, Mytek volume set to -20dB. When a track changed the volume shot up to 0dB. Happened again randomly with this playlist and others. If I tick the Mytek's volume up or down while playing, the volume reverts to the correct displayed setting. Unplugged headphones and ran speakers. Same issue. Turned it off waited a while, restarted and same issue. Has anyone experience this? -Art
  3. Just bought the Mytek and running it in this setup: ================================================= HP 4530S, i3-2.3GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD Win7 Ultimate, JRiver 18.0.212 ASIO - buffering: 1 sec - use large hardware buffers: yes Settings: DSP Output Format - 44.1 > 176.4 - 48 > 192 - 88.2 > 176.4 - 96 > 192 - 176 > same - 192 > same - bitstreaming: DSD - prebuffering: 2 sec - play files from memory: yes - volume mode: disabled Mytek Control Panel: - streaming buffer: small - ASIO buffer: small USB 2.0 out to the DAC Mytek - firmware: 1.75 - upsampling: OFF ================================================= Laptop doesn't have FIrewire. It does have an ExpressCard slot but I don't want to get into tht can of worms. Suffice it to say that USB is good enough for me. So, can anyone offer advice as to their settings with JRiver?
  4. I just wanted to thank all for this thread. I recently purchased a used Mytek and this thread has been very helpful. I'm running this setup: HP 4530S, i3-2.3GHz, 4GB RAM, 500GB HDD Win7 Ultimate JRiver 18.0.212 ASIO - buffering: 1 sec - bitstreaming: DSD - prebuffering: 2 sec play files from memory: yes volume mode: disabled DSP Output Format - 44.1 > 176.4 - 48 > 192 - 88.2 > 176.4 - 96 > 192 - 176 > same - 192 > same USB 2.0 out to the DAC Mytek - firmware: 1.75 - upsampling: OFF - volume trim: -14 - internal volume jumpers: enabled - RCA out Conrad-Johnson PFR Preamp H2O Audio S250 Amp OR Conrad-Johnson Premiere 11A Amp Apogee Caliper Signature Speakers OR Quad ESL-63 USA Monitors Sennheiser HD-600 Headphones The server setup has performed flawlessly. Driver installation went smoothly. No dropped data. The only issue I've had is with the hot volume output, now mostly resolved with trim at -14, internal jumpers closed. I use digital at display -10 or less to get a bit more control from the preamp - control not only in the preamp's sweet spot but in the volume increment as well, as the Mytek's is too fine. Going direct to the H2O, trim disabled, jumpers on, digital volume at 0 is plenty loud although there is room for more; maybe I'll set the jumpers off. I do have the option to go XLR out but, honestly, my ears are not audiophile grade and I doubt I would benefit from an incremental improvement. Same reasoning for not going Firewire. I can install an Expresscard Firewire in the laptop but that opens up another can of worms - the least of which is finding the right card, reasonably priced. Again, I've had no issues with the USB setup so it's good enough for me. Waiting on a cheap Chinese remote to arrive to start using that. Right now am using a universal learning to control volume/mute on the preamp and next/previous track on the server. That's all I need. My only question here is: is my upsampling setup optimal? That is, doing double upsampling only in JRiver. I've always thought it better to let the hardware do the upsampling (Mytek) but to have it do everything to 192, even "odd" rates, just doesn't seem right. Again, thanks to all for the great info in this thread. -Art
  5. I have been using several of these for the past couple years, both as music servers and media centers with cable cards. HP Probook 4420S, 4430S, 4520S, 4530S I use either i3 or i5 models, Win7, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, external USB drive, JRiver. Output is USB to the DAC. I also have an IR remote controlling it all. They have performed perfectly. Fan on the music servers hardly ever comes on and when it does you can't hear it. I like this all in one solution and it's dirt cheap, as these can be had for under $200 (used, of course). The setup is portable and repeatable - I can easily mirror to another system. As an added security, I use Clonezilla to keep a backup image of the HDD in case that goes south. This doesn't address your on-the-fly ISO conversion. As others have advised, avoid that unnecessary route. -Art
