  1. I agree with "much less headache" (using a bluesound) and it will introduce a big step up in fidelity to what you already have.
  2. Bluetooth doesn't carry Hi Rez signals. You might be better off hooking up a streamer (my fav: the Bluesound Node 2). Same price as a medium "strength" PC. Great fidelity, can attach to NAS, MQA, and none of the annoying things computers do while trying to play your music.
  3. Thanks guys for your input. I guess (later) for the CXC. I can purchase dBPowerAmp to get/try (UNcompression) but I already have a copy of JRiver. Does anyone know off the top of their heads if JRiver has this feature? Jay,
  4. I know it might be over-kill and the experts here will probably say that the resulting FLAC file no mater how it was converted, will compare the same. Is that actually true? Has anyone experimented with a higher quality CD reader other than a computer's drive? I was thinking about... (thinking about) trying the new Cambridge Audio CXC transport to do this. I can get it on a 60-day trial so I was thinking it it works "better" is could be worth the $499. However, the unit only has two digital outs. Would it be possible to hook this to a PC with a digital in and somehow point JRiver to it as the input device? Back to original thesis, would it result in a better FLAC file? TIA, Jay
  5. Hi All, A few facts that may affect the answer.... I just cracked open an ASUS Transformer 2-in-1. No, not a great 2-in-1 by any means, but hopefully enough to run JRiver to a DAC for non-critrical listening (outdoor-patio environment). Anyway. The ASUS is running Win 8.1 and is 32 bit (hopefully that doesn't present any compatibility issues). I installed the trial version of JRiver. When I go into settings I can't point to the Diskstation. I know that the ASUS can "see it" because it shows up with all my music in File Explorer. Can someone tell me why I wouldn't see it in the JRiver Options --> File Location list? I do intend to go ahead any add another license to my existing JRiver license, but wanted to make sure that all will work with my new laptop first. TIA, Jay.
  6. Gentle reminder..... Does anyone have an answer to this? Jay
  7. I am using an IPAD2 to CCK to Musical Fidelity MS1DAC with powered USB. It Works!! Not sure it sounds as good as JRiver on Windows thru USB. My question, in the ipad configuration, is digital music streaming out of the CCK? I assume this to be the case because the DAC locks into the signal. But I was always under the impression the Apple wouldn't allow digital out. thank you, Jay
  8. I am going to use a Musical Fidelity M1SDAC. It is not located near the NAS. Now that you mention it, is AudioStation the Synology APP that allows you to access NAS files from a Windows PC? Can it be Andriod PC / Tablet? In that case, I could use the DSAudio app too. But I was afraid (please correct me if I'm mistaken) that the output of DSAudio would not be the quality of JRiver? I have no confirmed reason to believe this, just feel that way. Do you know if there are any output quality differences in FLAC files (in any resolution) between, DSAudio, AudioStation & JRiver? Thanks thrand1 Jay
  9. A few questions about a new system I am thinking about setting up. I have a Synolog NAS setup with all my music. I would like to get a tablet that can run JRiver or another bit perfect player and attach to the NAS server. The tablet has to have a USB port - I intend to hook it up to my DAC via USB. I know all my issues can be addressed with a Surface Pro, but they tend to be expensive. Lower cost alternatives (Galaxy or Fire) will take me the Android route. So.. is there a JRiver version for Android? What quality player will run on Android? Will I be able to get a proper output stream from the Mini-USB jack on any table device? TIA, Jay
  10. Thank for all the positive feedback - Going to download some tracks tomorrow. Jay.
  11. Hi Guys, Santa (a->Z) is delivering my Synology DS214play any day now, so I am going to need some drives. It seems unanimous that WD Red is the way to go. I have about 800 CDs that I plan to Rip to FLAC, lots of photos, and hope to a mass a fail amount of HiRez music. I suspect (although I haven't seen any great estimator sites) that 2 x 2TB will be enough for a long while, but I would consider 3 x 3TB or 4 x 4TB (extreme) if there are any positive differences in performance or sound. The StorageReview.com - Storage Reviews site seems to be saying that a 4TB Red is a better drive, but I can't discern if the differences will be significant in a small, one user, mostly music configuration. Bottom line, should I just buy the storage size I anticipate or overbuy for performance (if any)? TIA, Jay
  12. Another escape from the "Genius Bar". You can always count on MAC user arrogance.
  13. I've searched all the sites I know of for HiRez muisc. Beside classical, some pop, and old standards that I already own and have RIP'd, I can't find any Jazz or New Age-y music that is Hi Rez. Does anyone have a site to recommend? Thanks, Jay
  14. Thanks Eric for your input. I didn't even know there was a HQ Player. I looked at it briefly. I like the interface.
