My concern is that this may impact my Tidal subscription. I have years invested in curating my Tidal playlists. They have done a good job of applying my preferences to their suggested listening. I like the UI and flexibility to play Tidal on any of my streaming devices. I "like" at least one new album per week. The only perceived advantage of the MQA compression is that I can download large "hi-res" playlists to my portable streamers. Let's hope that Tidal can afford to quickly convert their "Masters" to the original hi-res content (like Qobuz). If I were Tidal I would have a production line going already. Meanwhile I have exported all my playlists to .CSV in case I need to use Soundiz to move to another platform.

Article: An Audiophile On Vacation
[email protected] replied to The Computer Audiophile's topic in Article Comments
Envy you. We just cancelled a 15 day vacation in Maui due to Canadian Travel Advisory. Lost 50% of deposit :( we had an amazing experience in an open door helicopter tour of Na Pili coast a few years ago. Just pick a clear day if you want this tour. -
now that most of us are working from home...

I am very happy with my LS50 Wireless in a small office -
I use iFi products for noticeable improvement... iMac > iPurifier > iUSB Power > LS50W

Beginner's shopping list priorities
[email protected] replied to DonaldT2109's topic in General Forum
Hi I am also a retiree. After many years of trying to be an audiophile: DACs, tube amps, tower speakers, room treatments etc., I sold everything and settled on my end game system... KEF LS50W powered speakers. To my ears, and in my smallish listening room, these are great value for my money. Have a read of the many reviews on line. -
In my experiance, with iPad I needed a powered USB hub, and the Apple CCK to drive the Explorer2. I like the seperate line-out on the E2... the headphone amp is not as sharp as some competitors.

Powered Speakers Suck (because of class D)
[email protected] replied to GUTB's topic in General Forum
I have been enjoying my KEF LS50W powered speakers for 18 months. Sold all my tube amps and tower speakers... abandoned my expensive quest to be an audiophile. Now call myself a music-o-phile. KEF have done a great job with class D amps and their DSP crossovers. Pinpoint accuracy and soundstage. Room correction is a welcome plus. see Darko’s review of the LSX little brother. -
I had no problem installing Roon core on my Windows 7 PC
-
I have Roon core on my Win7 PC, and Roon remote on my iPad. I have a large collection of FLAC files on my network drive, and I stream from Tidal. I like that both sources of my music are integrated in Roon. I like the metadata that Roon provides, including lyrics for many tracks. I like the Roon radio playlists based on music that I have just played. I like the Parametric EQ that Roon offers, but when listening to MQA masters, one has to turn off all DSP processing in Roon. I could go back to Foobar2000 and Tidal, but I like the convienence of Roon, and for those with large homes, multiple endpoints is a big feature.

You can use an Apple CCK to connect any iOS device by USB cable.

Rebecca Pigeon's The Raven Album No Longer on Tidal
[email protected] replied to NipperDog's topic in Music in General
I live in Canada. The Raven was dropped here too. Mila's Convergance was dropped after a few weeks on Tidal. This was my favourite album for soundstage and clarity, as well as content. When I switched my account from US to Canada, many tracks on my playlists were greyed out. I surmise it is a regional licencing issue, or the artist pulled their album from Tidal. -
My path... IMac(Win7 Bootcamp) ... USB ... LS50W. I use the Tidal PC app, and find it better to go straight to the KEF DACs, than when tried the Meridian E2. The Tidal app does the first part of the MQA unfolding, and the KEF DACs sound better than with the the E2 in the path.
