  1. I have worked hard to get away from my KRK 5's. I can't even describe them as okay. When listening to older recordings it can bring out some low end that a lot of older recordings don't have much of. And it can sometimes sound pleasing. But with most modern recordings that have a lot of low end already, the KRK's devolve into garbage. Their separation and imaging are weak. My opinion, of course. I bought these in a pinch two years ago when my Events had amps that went bad. Two weeks ago I replaced the KRK 5's with Genelec M030. Night and day. Wow. But they are much more expensive. Still have a small woofer, and maybe someday I move up to a 6.5" low end driver. I can't speak for your other speaker possibilities, but I would consider looking at the Yamaha HS5's too. I also just upgraded my DAC, too this week. My needs were also XLR out and headphone jacks. I was close to getting a DacMagic Plus, but in the end upped my budget. I started to look closely at the Mytek, the Yulong DA8 and the Audio-Gd NFB-28. I settled on the Yulong DA8 and so far I'm very happy. Another DAC to look at in the DacMagic Plus price range is the Emotiva. I you do end up getting the KRK 5's at least get stands for them to get them up off the desk towards ear level. It'll help the imaging and help clean up the ugly bass. Good luck!
  2. Has anyone heard the Mytek in comparison to the Yulong DA8 or the Audio-Gd NDB-28? These seem to be similarly matched in features and quality. The Mytek is costs a bit more, but mainly looking for the best "neutral" and detailed sound. I'll be sending them out to a pair of Genelec M030 monitors. The set-up is for both monitoring audio mixes and for listening pleasure.
  3. I'm looking into the DacMagic Plus, too. I'm also considering the more upscale Bel Canto Dac 2.5. I have a W4S DAC2 for my main system, but I need to upgrade my work system. I want to feed a volume controlled XLR signal to a pair of bi-amped monitors and to run headphones from it too. Both of these DACs fit the bill. I need to find places near me where I can listen to them. The Emotiva is an interesting option, but I've never heard any of their stuff.
