  1. Let's define the terms: a DAC that doesn't just NOT decode MQA, but has NO electronics, chips, software, (onboard or downloadable) that are MQA "ready" , compatible, or otherwise. If we hate the product, then let's support the COMPANIES that operate in accordance with our thinking. Who are they?
  2. There seem to be a number of Opera fans in this thread. I have about 200 - 250 ( not sure of exact count) opera CD's, that I inherited, that I have not listened to, won't listen to and would like to get rid of. These were from a collection of a couple thousand, mostly classical CDs. A bunch are box sets, with booklets. If someone will pay me cost of packing/shipping plus 100 bucks, they are yours. Otherwise....Goodwill. PM me if interested. thx.
  3. I keep mentally bouncing back and forth between the Questyle and the Onkyo. anybody have any "head to head" comparisons and feedback? I want one .... or the other...... but which???
  4. try 'em on an airplane and then let us know.... A couple years ago, I tried multiple pairs on the plane before settling on the QC25. My conclusion was how they sound in the store was pretty immaterial as to how they sound at 35,000 feet. I do intend to test the QC35 the same way.... my one concern is I've seen bluetooth signals cross - coincidentally - in an airport lounge - as different sets picked up the wrong signal. I'm guessing someone didn't have their setting correct.
  5. Thanks, I had already spent time in "File Station" but still didn't see how this was done - is there some clear step by step process you can point me to? thx.
  6. I've posted this under the article section dealing with the W20 review written a couple years ago, and am posting here in case more will see it and have some suggestions: Originally Posted by pga Chris, just set up the W20 with a Berkeley RS via AES. From the article there is the statement: "From my Synology DS1812+ I set the File Manager to connect to the W20 HDD1 and HDD2 drives and check the box to automatically reconnect upon reboot of the NAS. Once connected the W20 drives appear just like local folders on the NAS. I then setup a backup task that copies all music on both W20 hard drives to a folder on the Synology NAS." I've played around with this and: 1) don't have a "File Manager" on my Synology, so maybe the name has changed since 2012; and 2) cannot a find a similar function that does this. Any suggestions anybody?

I'd like to see a MAC version that does NOT require a pc emulator.
  9. +1 Netgear Nighthawk. Full stop. Nighthawk | Dual Band WiFi Router | AC1900 (R7000) | NETGEAR get it anywhere, and at Costco, for cheap.
  10. I'm guessing this is common knowledge, but just in case - reformatting any drive wipes the existing content from the drive and "delivers" the drive empty. New files can be added at that point - but the old ones are gone.
  11. I think this is a good choice esp for 900 bucks! I've used the unit for over a year, also primarily to convert LP to HiRez digital. After playing around at some length I settled on 24/96 res rather than 24/192. Coincidentally ( or not ) Paul McGowan at PS Audio and Damien at Vinyl Studio ( the software I use ) also reco 24/96. My reasons for the choice is because the 192 takes way more storage space; in many cases I can't tell the difference; in some cases the greater detail increases the noise floor to the point of distraction. So only in some cases does it actually sound better - and I'm not going to spend the time to rip everything twice to figure that out. HOWEVER, my experiences may be a function of my tt and cartridge setup. YMMV. So I would be MOST interested in what you discover as you check it out.
  12. The "go to" drives most often tend to be Seagate, Western Digital and LaCie. Everyone has different experiences. I've tended to gravitate to Seagate, 4TB, which cost just over 100 bucks. I have 3 or 4 in service now, they work great, last a long time ( except when I drop them ) - and are solid both for playback and storage/backup.
  13. Just found this from CrashPlan site: "Truly Unlimited CrashPlan does not limit the size of your backup and we won't throttle your upload speeds. Furthermore, if you have a subscription to CrashPlan Central, we don't care if you're backing up 5 GB or 5 TB, and we don't place limits on individual file sizes. Plus, we’ll never charge you extra to restore your files. 14. Interesting..... crashplan runs in the background for me - and while it runs, I'm on my laptop ( writing this) streaming music, etc. Re: the download - I'm able to download single tracks: see example below: However.... you definitely have my attention with the cost - that I will investigate. I have been running Timemachine; CrashPlan and Amazon Cloud side by side (testing comparing ) and for me , CP is the hands down winner - but the download cost - that I have to investigate.
  15. Hasn't been for me - esp. for large storage. CrashPlan far far far better, faster, and same price. Critically - for updates - it's definitely faster and better at "knowing" what to update vs checking every file. YMMV
